    I think of the sizing nomenclature like this:
    Type S: Small 1/4” drive
    Type M: Medium 3/8” drive
    Type L: Large 1/2” drive (maybe one day)
    “Clear as mud…” You’re doing a solid job of explaining this man. Somebody figured they could make more money by taking a brilliant design for compatible versatility and packaging it so you need to buy multiple whole sets to take full advantage of said versatility.

      I'll mention, I bought like 12 of the sets. The 1/2" drive metric and sae sets of the deep well sockets at type M. So you can use it on a 1/2" impact or the 3/8" type M ratchet that comes in the other sets. So I think type L is not coming soon because they're defaulting the 1/2" to type M

    4th: new $99 3/8 set.

    Just took Quick Look at what I have similar and might be compatible? Pass thru tackLife 4-22mm (no skips, includes 4.5, 5.5) kit with ratchet and extensions and 1/4" and 3/8" square traditional ratchet/socket adaptors (also includes large range of SAE). Crescent 10-19mm no skips. Both of these kits are interchangeable. Have the Klein impact 11 in 1 driver that includes 3/8 and 5/16" (does the Knecht system fit inside this driver?). Also the Vaco impact driver kit in metric, includes 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14mm flip sockets. Also have a bunch of other multi driver Kliens, but they don't look like these will work in those handles

    I have three Lowe’s stores close to me, because it is a tri-state area. Interesting the prices vary on these new Klein tools. I just purchased the 85517HD kit for $23 regular price at the other two stores is $39. This kit is the impact 11 in 1 with the SAE nut driver set of flip sockets and 1/4 inch shaft. It had the Lowe’s “yellow” clearance tag on it. It is a very handy tool to throw in the car, boat or camper. Include the metric flip sockets and shaft will make it better. I am 73, been retired 11 years, but I still can’t resist buying tools, especially Lowe’s yellow tags just lure me 😂. This kit has the 32907 7 in 1 flip socket and the 32500HD 11 in 1 impact driver.

      @MORGANSMaintenance  Місяць тому

      @@southsidetom the extension I showed with the 1/4” is to use with the KNECT flip sockets which aren’t pass through anyways. It’s basically an adapter to keep you from carrying multiple ratchets, you can just do it all with the one.
      Sometimes you still need sockets or deep sockets even if you run pass through. Occasionally the bolt head or washer is in a hole where your ratchet won’t fit

    Your Klein collection is certainly growing. Wonder how long it will be before someone brings out an adapter to go between different manufacturer's pass-thru fittings. Bought the 11-to-1 on impulse Aug '23 and still it takes me more time to figure out how to piece it all together than it does to fix the thing needing fixing. It sat in the drawer the first 6 months. So I see proprietary adapters for sockets and ... I dunno. These newer screwdriver handle systems make more sense but they're all so heavy in the hand, that's one cost.
    The appeal is of course less space consumed AND dedicated cases. Lose anything but the standard 1/4" bits and you're SOL unless Klein ever sells each and every part separately.

      @@MORGANSMaintenance I can appreciate that. As I get older I want to pare down and better organize. I also want to delete the "one location" aspect of my hand tools. When I was young I only worked on cars and so a heavy rolling tool chest that stayed in the garage made sense. But damn, if you move you need a truck and ramp. I'm now also into more DIY home repair and renovation and need tools "everywhere," even if one day it's in the garage and the next it's inside my house.
      I'm slowly moving to stack system boxes but what I think I like about things like the KNECT isn't their ability to snap onto a bigger box. It's that it's a small grouped set easily transportable. Thought you needed a 14mm but it's really a 12mm? No need to go back to the garage when the grouped set is there with you. My hope is that also means fewer misplaced pieces.

    At this point you might as well take the larger case do some kasen or shadow foam and make the best set for you. Like you said it's a expensive way to do it but your knee deep already why not. I got a question does gearwrench husky hf or crescent x6 pass through sockets work in thoes handles ect. If so I don't have to buy sets just the specific adapters and dig out some old sets from the dusty pile if unused tools. I'd also ponder what other cases that these could be put into to make them more bag friendly. Surely you don't need every or some size just pick the most common offenders like we do with flip sockets (whatever brand or malcos). I know 1/4in ussaly dosent go past 14mm but alot of what people do isn't huge torque values i think a modern 1/4in drive could handle 40 50 ft lbs even if it was 16 18 19mm. Just food for throught.

    I'm holding out for a "Type S" pass-through set with SAE and metric size sockets. It seems like this would be and obvious set that would directly compete with common 1/4" sets. A small version of the set you have front and center that you call the 65400 ... but I also don't find that particular set anywhere? *I can't even find it on the Klein website?
