Just ran across this. I'll be visiting the NE of Brazil next October. I started Portuguese studies one month ago and my goal is to be conversational by the time I leave for Fortaleza next year. I would add one more tip: immigrants from Brazil can be found in the United States, especially Florida, and you can practice Portuguese with them, with their permission, of course. I've found Brazilians here to be very warm, kind, fun-loving people in my encounters with them in the U.S. Can't wait to be immersed in it in Brazil!

I agree with you. I try to tell people in my videos how important it is to learn portuguese should you decide to spend a long period of time in Brazil or even stay and live here. If not, it will be quite the challenge to get day to day things taken care of. Great video! 👍

It’s good to see you making videos. My wife and I will move to Fortaleza later this year and I’m sure we’ll visit you at some point. I’ve been trying to learn Portuguese for years, but never with consistent study. Now being 67 I’m sure it won’t be so easy, but it must be done - it’s not fun not being able to communicate with family and friends. But you have good advice - perhaps the kick that I needed. :-)

I know it’s difficult at that age, but even learning the basics will get you far! Good luck!

One thing is to keep learning and not get frustrated. I lived in Brazil and studied alot for 5 months and i was disappointed in myself because i was not having full in depth conversations and did not understand everything in Portuguese. Then my friend talked some sense into me... he said: I've been speaking Portuguese my whole life 40+ years and you've been speaking it for 5 months.. there is clearly a large gap in our Portuguese skills!

Portanto quer vim aprenada nossa lingua. A pergunta o povo brasileiro quer falar inglês?
