Big Bike Enduro 1: KTM 1090 & Africa Twin vs 500 EXC - MVDBR Enduro
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- I lead a couple of big litre bikes astray into some pine singles and hill climbs. Danny does very well for his first enduro on the big 1090, but Mick was the star of the day with a couple of offs including a high speed lowside. No one was seriously injured but the poor old AT came off a little worse for wear. Great ride with top blokes, hope you enjoy the video.

Man the guy riding the Africa twin ain’t too shy about giving the beast a proper ride.
Much respect ✊
Cheers mate!
That old mate on the AT was killing it!
He sure handles that thing well 👌 Thanks for the comment Tom 😎
And all Mick had to say is "Did you get that?".Love your videos.Just wish Mick was back in your videos as he is quite the inspiration for old dudes like me.Keep them coming.
that sound of this AT is freaking amazing, love it man !!!! greetings from Germany
Cheers Phil 👌
Dude on the Africa Twin, just gets it done!
Hey all , nice to see some positive comments on the AT , they are a much underrated bike , cheers . The pipe cracking out the note on the big twin is a $60 ebay special , love it !!
Rare appearance by the talent 😎 Does the pipe have a brand mate or could they not even afford to name it for that price? 🙈
@@MVDBR Nah mate, no brand name but if you search "motorcycle exhaust" on ebay you will see them on the first page. Quality has proven to be as good as the +$400 brands I have run in the past so I'm happy. Except I'm a bit bummed , I see the same pipe as low as $33 now :)
I have one for my Africa Twin,,, got the 370mm one but a full day in the saddle it gets a bit annoying,,will try a 470mm
I want to hear that pipe setup on the LC8 KTM lol
My hat off to you good sir...!
lol fun stuff guys mick hanging it out like a madman , danny cracking the big dog through did well, P)
Thanks mate can finally watch your vid now that Nat is home 😂
@@MVDBR yeh though you be editing ,its long one with some fast stuff at the end , bloody top ride ,hope nats healed up by then ,
I hope so too.
Awesome video , Danny and Mike showing what big bikes can do.
For sure, cheers for the comment mate
that AT dude just eats up the forest. Nice video
Thanks mate! 🤙
Stop criticizing Danny folks! He did extremely well on the 1090R. I have the same bike and trust me, it's not easy to manhandle it on single tracks at all! Yes, of course maybe a helicopter footage of Chris Birch looks better but that is for marketing purposes. Kudos to this guy for taking such a heavy and tall bike on this trails. I'm very impressed with his performance. 1090R is no 500cc.
Thank you John. We agree, especially considering he was very new to big bikes when we did this ride, both Mick and I were well impressed with what he managed on the big 1090. Standing up on the pegs more will come with time and practice. Cheers mate 🤙
Thanks @John Stan for the positive comment👍 . I had my KTM 1090 Adventure R for about 2 or 3 weeks I think before going on this ride. It is the first big off road bike I have ever owned or ridden off road like that. Getting off a WR 450 F then onto a KTM 1090 R is not easy, let alone taking one on trails like that
Amen to that John and thanks for the positive feedback . Make no mistake Danny was slaying it when you consider the circumstances . Good on you 👍
@BMW R1200GS Adventure Thanks. The KTM side stand is a pain in the neck they are a magnetically activated switch, I plan to get the bypass connector bit down the track, alternatively in an emergency situation you could unbolt it from the back of the stand, then zippy tie the magnet bit to the switch 😉 ( Making sure it is very secure of course or if it is knocked off / lost, it will not go anywhere )
I agree. I came from a 450exc to a 1090r and it took me quite a few rides to build the confidence having dropped it numerous times. Most of the time I was wondering what was happening but the bike is surprisingly too heavy and when she starts to go, there is simply no stopping her. Off we go. Another heavy lift. Standing up builds confidence, control and speed. Uphills are fun. Coming down creates drama. Loose gravel down hill… not the friend of a rider and their 1080r. It has a place for numerous types of rides. But, a giant dirtbike it is not. Keep it up mate!
F@#$in EPIC ride boys. Well done Danny Boy and Mick you put on a real show with ya magic on the AT and a couple of EPIC crashes.
BMDs... Big Mad Dogs 😂
The guy on the A/T is a damn good rider. I have had mine on some forest trails and he makes it look a lot easier than it is. Great video and great forest tracks. Even that low side at the end was done with precision!
Haha it was! Awesome mate cheers for the comment glad you liked our little video 👌
Here's a Mick D fan. It's awesome how he rides the AT, it's so natural. I'm watching the videos again and again and trying to learn something. Great MVDBR Enduro! Thanks.
Thank you mate! Glad you're getting some use out of the video, I often try to take inspiration from Mick as well even just standing up on the pegs more than sitting. Thanks for leaving a comment man we appreciate it 🤙
Far out you deserve more views! Awesome content mate, mad mick has some seriously big nuts😂
Its so good to see people pushing these big rigs to their limits. Debating on buying the Africa or 1090 ATM and this was a good video to watch.
Thank you mate hope it helped your decision, although 2 very different skill level riders on these bikes here. Cheers 🤙
Excellent video MVDBR Enduro!
Thank you! ❤️
really enjoyed this video.
Awesome mate thanks 🤙
the guy of the Africa Twin is a really amazing driver; congrats!!!
Sure is, thanks for the comment 🤙😎
Good job to all the riders
Mick 💯🔥 AT boss u definitely
Sold it,big respect
Cheers mate thanks for the comment 🤙
Your mate on the 1090 needs to stand up!!! 90% of his struggles are from sitting down.
Guy in the AT you rock!
We know we know 😉 Thanks for watching 👍
@@MVDBR I know, you know, he knows.... what's the point? Why don't he stand up? That's what I don't understand.... BTW great video, thanks for sharing, I love to see my bike (AT) used properly ;) I try, but I'm not that good yet
@@RidingTusCanY That... I don't know. But at a guess, as we mentioned in the vid he's very new to the bike and possibly not comfortable enough with it yet. He'll get there... we'll see how he goes in the next video. It's easy for people to criticise on the internet but I'm just happy he gave that kind of terrain a go on the big bike, takes a lot of guts when you've only just dropped a big pile of money buying one of those things. Anyway glad you liked the vid mate cheers :)
@@MVDBR Thanks for your kind reply, my was not a criticism, just curiosity. I know it's not easy to ride such heavy bikes on those terrains, but sitting on the bike instead of standing it's a way to make things more complicated. I'll watch your next videos with pleasure, cheers from Italy
@@RidingTusCanY awesome mate thanks, appreciate it :)
That's what I like to see! Use those bikes like they were meant to be!
Damn right mate! Cheers :)
Not sure if those fatty boys really meant to enter woods though 😊
Wow, great Ride, but you guys scare me. I love off roading , but guy's keep safe on your rides, I want to see you all in more videos. You guys are just amazing ! watching it and looking forward others. All bikes did well as well as their riders.
Thank you... It's a dangerous game and shit happens but we know the risks, Mick's actually got an injured shoulder at the moment so he's not able to ride 😖 Thanks for the comment hopefully we will be around to make more vids for a while yet 🤙
Thanks Dolly
Nice.... showing what the AT can do....have fun in the bush one weekend and then happily munch the highway miles in comfort!
Yep that's it mate one bike can do it all in the right hands :) Cheers
Man that africa twin sounds like a BEAST!!
It's the 350 HQ Holden of the dirt bike world 👌😁
@@MVDBR hahaha yep! It's what we call in my group of friends "A thong clapper".
Mick's throttle and clutch control are gr8...glad he didn't hurt himself. The boys put on a good show...another excellent video.
Thanks mate yeah the whole way he moves on that bike it's like poetry in motion. I'm watching and trying to improve my own riding maybe he'll give lessons haha 🤘 cheers
That's so awesome. I have no idea how the AT rider is not dead because he looks like he's going for the Dakar win on that two track around 6min in :) Nice riding!
The guy on the 1090 is a champ too, making it through everything without even standing up ;)
Mad skills mate :) Yeah I think he was surprised he got that KTM through all that stuff, he's not long had it and that was his first proper dirt ride on it. Why stand up when you can sit and still smash it ;) Thanks for watching!
Freaking MAD Respect for these guy being able to throw these Big steeds around like 450s!
AWESOMENESS!
What a great ride and fun to watch from the frozen corners of Quebec Canada. My AT is in hibernation for another month or so...thanks for letting us feel the excitement of the trails mate!
Cheers Peter good on you mate thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the video 🤙
Have all your videos on repeat while working, here the winter in Canada means no more riding for a few months. Living it through you guys! Haha.
Winter sucks! Cheers mate
Absolutely amazing driving. No fear at all. It was a pleasure to see! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks mate ✌️
that was a pretty epic ride fellas , those bikes are animals, it's awesome to see a wide variety of bikes and rides out there tearing it up!
Cheers mate I can see why you're not that excited about this one tho not enough water crossings 😎😂 Haha j/k man thanks for watching 👌
Nice vid n. That Africa twin sounds wicked, got me stuffed how old mate handles that bike the way he does. Would be an animal on a small bike.
Not wrong mate I think he said to me once he was tempted to get another little bike but was worried about killing himself, now I see why ;-) Thanks for watching man
The man goes down full speed after a power, and the first thing he says "did ya get that one" lmao
😅🍻
MVDBR delivering the goods as usual🤙
Ripper day out with the mad dogs! Hope Nat gets better soon👍
Haha good on ya chief cheers mate 🤘 Yeah she'll be right just some pain after cortisone injection 😣
Thanks man. I'm itching to get back out on the bike it's been far too long already.
I AM IMPRESSED at handling the BIG bikes. Still takes 2 guys to pick one up. Got me thinking about an 1190 again..
Pfft nah Mick picks it up by himself all the time 💪
Great vid man. Those big bikes are so good in the right hands ey.
Yeah man fucking good all rounders if you got the skill to muscle em 👌
Top day with top blokes, thanks mate.
Good work Danny hope ya got a bit more confidence on the 1090 after that ride, ya should have!
You were awesome Danny. Did soooo good on that big bitch :)
Great vid, bro! Had my heart in my mouth the whole time for the bro on the Kato, but he did ok in the end! Standing up is an acquired skill, and I’m sure he’ll get there - and when he does he’ll have a whole new perspective on the capabilities of that monster of a bike! I love mine!
Thanks mate cheers for the comment 🤙🤙
So much fun to watch this. Thanx
Cheers mate! Glad you liked it 😎
Holysh!t hectic ride for the big bikes!!
Great video! More AT!! Good luck to your channel!
Cheers brother 🤘
This is great riding enjoyment.Thks.
Glad you enjoyed it mate thank you for the positive comment :) Cheers
Great Video👍🏻 see that you guys had a lot of fun.
Thank you! Was awesome fun and the main thing was no one got hurt :)
Africa"s rider is perfect!)
Great vid. Big bikes are great fun but hard work compared to a lighter bike. My 950 you alway want twist the throttle to step it out 👍
Ah so that's why Micks constantly sideways on that thing haha thanks for watching man 🤘
Love the sound of the Africa Twin but I have no idea how they can ride them. Great video get well soon Nat.
Takes a real man huh hahaha not little boys like us ;) Cheers Steve
Thanks Steve :)
What a great video. Finally found something to watch, that's well filmed and INTERESTING. So Much crap on youtube these days and too much jibber jabber. Look forward to more of this, great stuff, it's what off roaders want to see. Thanks.
Thank you! Appreciate the comment and glad you enjoy the content, cheers and thanks for watching! 👌🤙
Your 500 and that AT are ridiculous. Awesome riding.
Good times 🍻
Mick showing what the AT can do on single track is worth a thousand marketing ADs....
Yeah I agree mate thanks for the comment :)
Dude on the AT can ride That bike at its best 🤙👍
Indeed 💪
Absolutely love that brutal roar of the Africa Twin and it seems to handle surprisingly very well in the hands of the driver :) That sound of that V twin alone makes me want one lol. I have the 2019 KTM 500 EXC F myself and is waiting for the long winter to pass by watching videos like this :) (wish I had spiked tires so I could do a little winter riding also).
It's awesome hey loud as hell Mick has to use ear plugs riding it. I don't know how you guys can go a whole season with your bikes parked up I'd go insane! Winter is the prime riding season here but we brave the heat of summer also, usually there's somewhere nice to swim and cool off during a ride. Thanks for the comment mate go the 500! 💪
woohoo that looked like fun day
god i love the sound of that beast
Haha yeah I thought mine was loud, I can see why Mick wears earplugs :) Cheers mate
The best vídeo of big on enduro
Congratulatios!
Thank you mate 😍🤙
A deer walking across in the background at 9:44
Crazy ride. Awesome to see those big bikes out on trails like that.
Hahaha another hawkeye :) Someone else noticed that, it's actually a cow... that land is leased by cattle owners. Cheers
If that guy on the AT is in all the vids I’ll watch them.
There's a playlist on this channel called Africa Twin with all the vids that Mick is in. Hopefully when he's recovered from shoulder injury we will make version 2 of this video :) Cheers
Rock on Mick the invincible!
💪😎
As so many said before, that guy on the AT is kicking it, well accept for a little moment at the end ;) ! Really nice video.. Had a 1090 R earlier but sold it for a 1290 SAS but have a XR650R for offroad also... Driving offroad is so much fun but big bikes are heavy when the terrain gets to bad.
XR shit yes nice, great old bikes :) Thanks for commenting mate glad you liked the vid!
Outback motortek crashbars and a bumot bashplate and that AT would `ve been unscaved. Awesome ride, guys! Thanks!
Thanks mate cheers! 🤙
Plus 1 on the bumot skid👌
I love the deer just casually walking in the background at 09:42 , while the 1090 was on its side.
Fuckin Hawkeye! Jeez well spotted mate. It's actually a cow though, shit ton of them wandering around in there making cool single track for us hehe :)
Haha, saw something kinda big and kinda brown and just assumed it's deer. You don't ever get cows turned lose around here, so I guess I would never have guessed that. Kind of makes sense then why it had no fear of you.
Where abouts are you? A lot of people seem to have cattle roaming in state forest around here. Well spotted tho mate I had to play back that section of video 3 or 4 times to see what you were talking about haha 👍
Czechlands, central Europe. We've got pretty high population density, so while you are probably more likely to meet yeti, rather than a cow, you do often encounter people, cyclist, dogs, cats, rabbits, deer, foxes, hawks, etc, so you gotta have your eyes peeled.
Good catch on the cow crossing at 09:42 never would have caught on my iPad. lol
Great film, loving the AT going for it 😂
Thank you!
when are Honda going to start sponsoring Mick? AT slated for being underpowered but looks much more capable than the KTM! love the videos guys👍
Thanks mate
Yes AT show more then KTM.. But this ktm driver performs, a, bit lower level then AT rider! Mike is a hero!
The good thing about these rides down under is how dry the tracks usually are...the big KTMs might be lighter than a GS, but they’re still not light, and they don’t handle mud well. I just crossed the great dividing range on tracks through the Victorian Alps on my KTM Adventure and it was definitely easier because it’s so dry
Yeah very true mate. Haven't seen the 1090 in the mud yet but we did a ride with Mick on the AT in pretty muddy conditions and he still smoked it! Was a helluva fun day. Vid is kicking around on this channel somewhere. Cheers for the comment bro 🤙
That AT sounded great! Great rider as well.
It's a beast mate I love the sound of it :) Cheers for the comment good sir
Nice footage....thx for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! 💪
CRAZY heavy Boys :-) !!! Cool Cool Cool Movie! Thanks!!!
Thank you! 👌
Cracking video pal good mix up as well enjoy.
Cheers bro glad ya like it thanks for the sub \m/
Awesome show! Great riding by Mick, you can see how aggressive he has to be weight shifting to balance the bike, 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hey Trent thanks for the comment mate yeah we can all learn a thing or 2 from Mick that's for sure. Definitely no slouch on the big AT. Cheers mate 👍
Nice video mate, keep it up!
Cheers! Will do :)
Proper amazing stuff from them big bike 4 sure!!! What he says, riding them big 'uns like that: helps being "crazy" :D
Sweet to see in comparison how "lightly" the 500 rides them tracks - nice vid !!! Will folow!!!
Thanks for the comment! Love riding with those guys and seeing how far they can push those big bikes, plus of course it usually makes for a great video 👌 cheers
Awesome video. Man it was rough trails for those huge bikes way to heavy for that
Mick makes it look like a walk in the park though :) Cheers for the comment mate
Bloody brilliant,I hope the bloke is fine after that little side skate on the bend there...awesome ride,I didn't know an Africa twin could do this but damn! It's all about the rider not the ride as the people say I guess haha, ride safe guys
Cheers mate yeah Mick is fine and the Twin is all fixed up ready for the next enduro bash 😁 Thanks for the comment! 🤘
What sort of exhaust is on the AT. It sounds awesome.
Hey mate check the pinned comment above, cheers :)
Great riding guys!
Cheers man thanks for watching 🤙
I love this so much... I hope to be that smooth and strong on my AT someday.... Some Day... ;-)
Don't we all! Cheers for the comment man :)
I can say that AT guy is having more fun than KTM guy. 😊✌️🏍
Awesome vid, nice trip guys... cheers
Cheers mate appreciate the comment, thanks for watching glad you enjoyed it 🤙
that mick is an animal!! you too mate. and danny boy can muscle around that 1090.
Thanks bro! 🤙
Yea Mate, another great video, ol mate on the AT is good value. Your lucky hes not on a 500.
I'd love to see him in action on a little bike actually, but yeah you guys wouldn't get to see it cuz I'd never keep up to get any footage 😎 Thanks for watching man
And the guy on the AT he does Rock,, love the way your muffler sounds yeah sure sounds good how to put one on mine
Cheap as chips and sounds awesome what more do ya need 👍
Great vid! The guy on the AT has some mad skills. One day in the future, with a lot of practice, that might be me.
Mate we all aspire to ride like Mick haha :) Good luck, cheers mate glad you liked the video
No
What Exhaust is on that Africa Twin??? It sounds Bad Ass!!!
It's a generic $60 eBay slip on mate
@@MVDBR do you have a name or link for that exhaust? Sounds amazing!!!
@@MVDBR is it this one or similar?

Cracking video, big UP to the guys on the big bikes they take a lot of effort to ride hard like that I know, traded in mine for a 500 exc which has to be one of the best I've ever had 🤘🏻
Cheers Peter yeah I've never ridden one of those big bikes in anything hard but I imagine it would be a serious challenge. I've only had my 500 for about 6 months but absolutely love it so far :)
5 minutes in and i almost forgot those bikes weigh 200+, awesome work mate
Cheers mate yeah Mick isn't afraid to chuck it around like it's a 450. Thanks for watching \m/
Nice video and great riding.
Can you tell me which tires has been used on africa twin?
Thanks mate :) Mick generally uses a Pirelli Scorpion Rally front and Pirelli MT21 rear. Cheers
For local work Pirelli Scorpian Rally Desert Race 90/90 21 front. Pirelli MT 21 140/80 18 on the rear . Heavy duty tubes front and rear . Longer distance I run the Motoz Tractionator Adventure on the rear
The mate on the big Ktoom needs to stand more, fun times
Thanks for the comment 🤙
Africa twin is the best adv bike man o and that sound, mick you are hero, hello from croatia
The dude riding crf1000L make it look like is riding a crf450 awesome
you guys are legends
They go alright ay... thanks mate :)
That Honda sounds MAD AF!!
Sounds even better when ya right there! Haha cheers mate thanks for the comment 👌
MVDBR Enduro gotta love it! 😄
no worries.
been stalking your content all evening, and I love your videos! Keep it up 👍
@@Inf_Viking thanks man truly appreciate it 😊 Mick is out with injury atm but as soon as he's able we'll be heading out for big bike enduro 2 since this ones been so popular with the big bike guys and girls 💪
Hiya awesome vid that fella on the AT has some big nuts to throw that thing around like that being a AT owner myself could you ask him what gearing he is running (ie front and rear sprockets) as it seams a lot lower then mine and would like more bottom thanks and keep up the good footage 👍
Hey Russ, I'm running 15 - 42, 1 tooth down on the front from stock .
@@michaeldudley9772
Cheers for that i was looking at adding 3 on the back so same thing really ride safe bud lol
Ye , I like to change the front , only takes about 10 mins to change if you want to swap about depending on where your riding ... and you don't need to lengthen your chain. Not sure, + 3 on the rear may see you needing to add links to your chain
Plus 2 on the rear sprocket is about max you can get on the stock chain, i have it on my dct but next time i’ll get the -1 on the front.
Hey Danny saw you on the KTM Adventure ride videos that Adam did. Good job on the Ktm 1090
Which videos mate?
GREAT video!!!
Cheers!
Thank U. Loved it
Cheers 🤙
Haha for exc is it fun, for big bike is it hard work.
😂 thanks for watching mate 🤙
very nice. Especialy guy with Africa - very good riding technic
Thanks for watching 🤘
That Big AT sound @ 13:46 ah, nice meaty tune !
💪😎
Nice riding. I’m a 1090r owner, and ride some ugly terrain... and fairly quickly. But that old boy on the AT has some skills! Great stuff.
Good on you mate at least you're not driving it to get lattes and then home again, such a waste of a capable machine :) Thanks for the comment!

@@MVDBR love the sound of the at. I got a 640 kind of in between the 1090 and your 500

Amazing!!! 😍
