Big Bike Enduro 1: KTM 1090 & Africa Twin vs 500 EXC - MVDBR Enduro

  • I lead a couple of big litre bikes astray into some pine singles and hill climbs. Danny does very well for his first enduro on the big 1090, but Mick was the star of the day with a couple of offs including a high speed lowside. No one was seriously injured but the poor old AT came off a little worse for wear. Great ride with top blokes, hope you enjoy the video.

    Stop criticizing Danny folks! He did extremely well on the 1090R. I have the same bike and trust me, it's not easy to manhandle it on single tracks at all! Yes, of course maybe a helicopter footage of Chris Birch looks better but that is for marketing purposes. Kudos to this guy for taking such a heavy and tall bike on this trails. I'm very impressed with his performance. 1090R is no 500cc.

    • @MVDBR
      @MVDBR  5 років тому +3

      Thank you John. We agree, especially considering he was very new to big bikes when we did this ride, both Mick and I were well impressed with what he managed on the big 1090. Standing up on the pegs more will come with time and practice. Cheers mate 🤙

      Thanks @John Stan for the positive comment👍 . I had my KTM 1090 Adventure R for about 2 or 3 weeks I think before going on this ride. It is the first big off road bike I have ever owned or ridden off road like that. Getting off a WR 450 F then onto a KTM 1090 R is not easy, let alone taking one on trails like that

    • @michaeldudley9772

      @dannysdirtbikeadventures2606 5 років тому +2

      @BMW R1200GS Adventure Thanks. The KTM side stand is a pain in the neck they are a magnetically activated switch, I plan to get the bypass connector bit down the track, alternatively in an emergency situation you could unbolt it from the back of the stand, then zippy tie the magnet bit to the switch 😉 ( Making sure it is very secure of course or if it is knocked off / lost, it will not go anywhere )

    • @RoJo_moto
      @RoJo_moto 2 роки тому

      I agree. I came from a 450exc to a 1090r and it took me quite a few rides to build the confidence having dropped it numerous times. Most of the time I was wondering what was happening but the bike is surprisingly too heavy and when she starts to go, there is simply no stopping her. Off we go. Another heavy lift. Standing up builds confidence, control and speed. Uphills are fun. Coming down creates drama. Loose gravel down hill… not the friend of a rider and their 1080r. It has a place for numerous types of rides. But, a giant dirtbike it is not. Keep it up mate!

He'll get there... we'll see how he goes in the next video. It's easy for people to criticise on the internet but I'm just happy he gave that kind of terrain a go on the big bike, takes a lot of guts when you've only just dropped a big pile of money buying one of those things. Fuckin Hawkeye! Jeez well spotted mate. It's actually a cow though, shit ton of them wandering around in there making cool single track for us hehe :)

    • @Dowent
      @Dowent 5 років тому +1

      Haha, saw something kinda big and kinda brown and just assumed it's deer. You don't ever get cows turned lose around here, so I guess I would never have guessed that. Kind of makes sense then why it had no fear of you.

    • @MVDBR
      @MVDBR  5 років тому

      Where abouts are you? A lot of people seem to have cattle roaming in state forest around here. Well spotted tho mate I had to play back that section of video 3 or 4 times to see what you were talking about haha 👍

    • @Dowent
      @Dowent 5 років тому +1

      Czechlands, central Europe. We've got pretty high population density, so while you are probably more likely to meet yeti, rather than a cow, you do often encounter people, cyclist, dogs, cats, rabbits, deer, foxes, hawks, etc, so you gotta have your eyes peeled.

    The good thing about these rides down under is how dry the tracks usually are...the big KTMs might be lighter than a GS, but they’re still not light, and they don’t handle mud well. I just crossed the great dividing range on tracks through the Victorian Alps on my KTM Adventure and it was definitely easier because it’s so dry

    • @MVDBR
      @MVDBR  5 років тому

      Yeah very true mate. Haven't seen the 1090 in the mud yet but we did a ride with Mick on the AT in pretty muddy conditions and he still smoked it! Was a helluva fun day. Vid is kicking around on this channel somewhere. Cheers for the comment bro 🤙

      Ye , I like to change the front , only takes about 10 mins to change if you want to swap about depending on where your riding ... and you don't need to lengthen your chain. Not sure, + 3 on the rear may see you needing to add links to your chain
