  • No matter how you try and fake it, if your relationship with a partner, parent, sibling, or friend doesn't have these three essentials, you'll have problems.
Etch these in your mind and don't settle for less, OK?
Healthy relationships are a cornerstone to self-esteem, well-being, and groundedness.
And they are not something we all are lucky enough to grow up seeing in the adults around us, or in our family relationships. When you don't see what they look like, then it's logical to not naturally know how to have them.
Learning how to do it is one of the best things you can do for yourself! It's an incredibly empowering and self-caring way to move forward in your life.
Listen in, and start understanding how to notice unhealthy relationship dynamics, and what you can do to make changes yourself, towards being more healthy in you communication, boundaries, behaviors and choices. Because YOU are the only person you have any control over.
    * * Remember, narcissists and other toxic people come in all genders and ages * *
and toxic relationships can be at home, at work, at play... with your parent, boss, spouse, sibling, friend, co-worker.

I have never known what it takes to create a healthy relationship. I end up over functioning in these areas and don’t expect anything like equality, reciprocity, or mutuality, but I end up feeling used and resentful. Speaking up with honesty and kindness is a skill I need to practice but even when I do that the tables get turned. Now I’m thinking distancing myself from people who don’t reciprocate after asking for what I want, and allowing them to have their upset feelings instead of Lee showing up and giving more hoping they will finally give to me. It was my childhood strategy for navigating my hijackle parents. This video gives me a reference for what is acceptable or not in adult relationships. Thank you!

I always supported my siblings and their children, but the only time I expected them to support my child was her high school graduation party. None of them came and my sister had the gaslighting nerve to say you shouldn’t give if you expect something in return.
I am no contact with my entire family. Blessed!

It took me 4 years after purchasing a home together, to have my name added to create a joint checking account, so that I, too, could pay the mortgage. No, for 4 years, I had to ask, plead, cajole, and beg. There were also 2 savings accounts at the same bank, and I didn’t ask to be on those. Just joint checking where there’s never really more than $2K.
Finally, reluctantly, grudgingly, he had me added. After 30 years of believing that I only had access to that one checking account, I went to that bank to be added, finally to the others, as co owner. Let me tell you, I collapsed when they said, “ Your name has been on all 3 since 1992.” He never told me. That is deceptive hijackal control. It is despicable. It is evil. It is cruel, and I’m so, so on my way out. Taking all of Dr. Shaler’s instructions on how to emerge empowered, and leave once, forever, with head held high, and knowing who, what, how, and where I am. ❤️
