  • Mmm, oat milk! So cheap and juicy. My ex Wendy came up with this recipe.
Here's the bare bones version; please experiment and spice it up!
1/3 cup rolled or old-fashioned oats. Add more oats to make it thicker.
1 tbsp canola oil (you don't have to use oil if you don't want to)
    ~3 cups cold water
1 pitted date or other sweetener (optional)
a pinch of salt (i didn't do this in the video but it's alright)
    Method:
    1) Combine ingredients and blend until blended.
    2) Strain with a nut milk bag.
It keeps for a few days, and requires refrigeration. The milk settles and separates over time, so you have to shake or stir vigorously to reincorporate.

I made some today, left out the oil, used ice water and the nutribullet, a date and a little vanilla. It's very nice and not slimy at all. Thank you very much! I will use it on my oatmeal and in my smoothies. :)

Aww... you were doing great and I was excited.. but you lost me when you added the oil. Oil is so unhealthy.. but oh well, thanks for posting. Glad ya'll found a recipe that makes you happy and doesn't come out slimy. :-). Peace.

I've been making my own oat milk for some days now, since the oat milk I usually bought at the grocery store got a bad batch, but mine tends to have a harsh edge that maybe adding a bit of oil as you do would help. Sorry for the long sentence!

Nice, I wish you the best on your oat milk journey. This recipe mostly just tastes like oats, because canola is completely flavorless. So it's pretty mild. I wonder why yours tastes harsh!

@@vincentcolavin I tried soaking the oats in water for 8 hours before blending it with the other water for the milk, and the burn is gone. But now the creaminess is also gone - you have to be patient and experiment!

Tnx for the video. Gonna try this. Have you experimented without the oil? I’m wondering what difference the oil makes to it..

Hi Veena! The oil makes it fattier and creamier, but you can do it without oil. It will be more thin. If you want to add fattiness without using oil you can try adding a handful of cashews or almonds.

I usually buy OatYeah from my local Costco, but I think I'll try this for a while instead now and see how I like it :)
