If you havent already its probably worth doing a font tutorial. Its not hard to sus ot out but it doesnt come naturally to everyone.

whenever i do path to difference near the end of the tutorial in order to cut some padding for the text the path joins and I get the stroke joining up all the way across the logo.

Its ok I did it with cut path instead :D

The circle is behaving like a stroke. You must do a "path-object to path" to change the stroke to a path that can be edited.

When I create the box round the text using the bezier pen the whole page goes blank and I have to use ctrl Z to get the image back.

Im not sure, unless your strokes are not paths "Path-->stroke to path". And also have duplicate copies.

I’ve downloaded milkshake but can’t get it in the fonts, I’ve tried going through program files and dropping it in but it’s not working

Dean Mason go to control panel, search "font" then drag and drop files there. Good luck!

Make sure you installed it after downloading. Then re open Inkscape... Is should be there then
