Handling sharks is like having a pack of wolves. It's all fun and games while they're OK with you. The moment they decide you're bothering them, you'll be losing at least a few pieces.
I'm glad you said something about the basking shark video. It drives me crazy that people think that's a white shark. The fins on the side just in front of the tail fin, I think it's the pelvic fins? Are obviously much larger than great whites as well as the dorsal fin being rounded as you said.
Kris you are a legend. Your videos are so informative and I couldn’t agree more about the Ocean Ramsey team. I’m speculative about OR’s qualifications and whilst I’m sure her intent is to ‘raise awareness’ or collect data but, I disagree with the message that it’s ok to dive with sharks with the intent of touching them. It feels more like harassment and unfortunately, when she is bitten it appears to me that if/when she is bitten then this will not serve the reputation of sharks well.
Hey mate With the clip if the great white "yawning", about half way through your video, you can see another white in the back ground. It's hard to tell without full context, but is it possible that they are circling each other to establish hierarchy for feeding and the flex of the jaws is a display of power and size to help determine that?
I went diving with sharks in Hawaii. One of the kept opening and closing it's mouth while swimming at me. He was following me at my speed, I was just backing up slowly. I had never seen a shark behave like that in most of the clips or shows I had seen. I tried Google but it was kinda hard to find an answer. Im glad u mentioned it in this video. Now I know he was only to communicate with me, or stretching out his jaws preparing to eat me.

I have talked to soo many 8-12 year old boys and girls that say you can redirect great whites and tiger sharks with your hands and they will not bite you. Ocean Ramsey has all these kids believing they can easily do what she does and that the sharks are not really dangerous. Its ludicrous. She is doing more damage as all these kids say they want to swim with these sharks too. Lol.
When Ocean Ramsay does get hurt it might be a bit like the Steve Irwin event. Individually unfortunate but if you roll the dice enough eventually your luck runs out.
I think that guy trying to release that baby shark was worried that if he let go, it would turn around and nip him, hence why he decided to yeet it and retreat out of the water.
I’ve been snorkeling in Indonesia and at an historic shipwreck I saw a shark! It was smallish, reminds me of that nurse shark in one of the clips, and the only one I saw around There was a lot of people there, snorkeling at the surface and a handful were diving to get a closer look at the ship The shark was near the ocean floor by the wreck, and I can’t help but wonder what it was going through with so so many people around
Usually sharks are pretty good at letting us know they’re not happy with our presence, I.e if they’re stressed, response number one is more often than not: swim away fast!
Genuinely think that Ocean portrays sharks as cuddly toys that anyone would be safe in the water with. Honestly I know sharks are awesome creatures and a lot of our fears are built by the media, but they are still dangerous. One day one of her team or herself are going to be absolutely mauled. I genuinely worry it wont be long before an incident happens.
Those Tik Tok videos are an example of why you shouldn't believe everything you see and hear. Seriously? A flammable shark? Sounds like another bad shark movie
Saw a video on Facebook today where a guy dived into the water thinking it was a basking shark, only for his friend to tell him, dude thats no basking shark, that's a great write and a decent size too from the video, it circled and swam in front of the boat stairs as the guy was swimming towards the boat. The clip then ended, I hope the man got out the water safely.
I came back to this video after 9 months. And let me tell you something, if that lemon shark was a baby dolphin, people would freak out and call him an animal abuser and all other sorts of insults, but since is a shark, and most people hate them for absolutly no freaking reason, the comments regarding that TikTok, were people laughing at the fact that he threw the shark, cause again is a shark and they don't care about sharks safety and whatnot -_-, I swear those people are hypocrites...

@@SHARKBYTES Nope. We both agree she is going to either take a hit, or get someone else bitten. It's not a question of why or how or who or where, but when. I was telling someone a few months ago after the Nellis attack that she has played the odds and so far has come out on top. She is showing people extraordinary things about these predators, while at the same time showing some incredibly stupid and reckless behaviors that should under no circumstances be done by anyone, ever..including her. One day when everything has been working well for her, no close calls, everything turns routine...BAM! That's when disaster will strike and it'll be on the news. Or someone emulating her will be bitten. UGH. I wish she would just stop.

The fin gives it away as a whale shark, it's a almost a rounded triangle, great whites a jagged blade type shape with a more straight back and angled front.
When Ocean Ramsay gets bitten by a 14’ tiger shark, she will be saying how she doesn’t blame the animal… as it swims away with her arm! Make sure to tell the camera before the shark attacks you, that you got your idea from Ocean Ramsay… I’d like to know how many attacks it’ll take!
I need to re-find that clip of a hammerhead going nuts on this spearfisher in his kayak. This hammerhead chases him for about a hour as he paddles to shore and has to actually beach his kayak because it just wont leave him alone even in shallow water. And you can see this shark just bumping more and more aggressively on the kayak. The guy even points the camera at his fish so you can see its in the boat and hes not taunting/baiting the shark to mae it chase him. The clip starts in the water as spearfisher is tossing his catches into the boat and if you slow down the video you can see that white eye and the spearfisher does what hes supposed to, keeping eye contact and staying still as possible until he has a chace to get in the boat. And he does point out that the fish are probably what drew the shark there in the first place. To the spearfishers credit he does point out that this is highly unusual behavior for any shark. Id be curious on your take. But yah, these arent gentle inquisitive 'are you the food i sensed' taps. These are fullout whiteeyed naling the kayak and almost knocking it over. Like at first the spearfisher is like "cool, the shark is following us", then its "well thats not very nice" as sharky gives a good solid exploratory bumps all calm, then its "oh shit" as the shark stops screwing about. I'm used to sharks as i do dive in places where its not uncommon to find them and i personally dont mind since sharks arent generally 'aggressive' without reason. Id be more worried about a swam of humbolt squid then a bunch of sharks to be honest. Seriously though, all my terrifying underwater times have either involved dead bodies (when not diving for fun, i do some body recovery on the side) or squid. Squid are evil and ambitious about it. Octopus can cause problems if you mess with them (a narked friend of mine once tried to hug an octopus...it tried to hug him aggressively back. Try getting a narked person up safely with an 🐙 as a third wheel).
like 9 minutes in, that's a bottle nose, likely near Tampa Bay, they do that all the time, they use their tail to stir up circles of silt around fish and do that little tail smack to scare them into it; then trap and eat them. Super common.
People like Ocean Ramsay make swimming with sharks look enticing. I've seen other people teaching how to redirect tiger sharks and whatnot. You're only teaching this if you think people are going to go out there and swim with tiger sharks and they are because you're making it seem cool and fun
Honestly I fear the day these “Shark Influencers” get bit. Steve Irwin finally got careless around a poisonous stingray and lost his life. A great loss in his case because he really championed animals I also fear someone thinking they can just jump in with sharks like Ocean Ramsey does. I’m reminded of the young Russian guy who just lost his life to a GW. When they hooked it, it looked juvenile but I’m not sure. I think it makes sharks more willing to approach humans
speaking of owning sharks, i just recently found out that some people get huge aquariums and actually buy smaller species of sharks like the brownbanded bamboo shark. sounds bizarre to me, but i know nothing about fishkeeping, so… do you think that counts as animal abuse, or could these sharks somehow be okay living in captivity?
Yeah there are plenty of sharks that tend to do okay in a good aquarium setting - although there are also plenty of sharks that don't do well. I actually think we did a video on it back towards Season 1/2 of Shark Bytes!

The cakes reminded me of how when you’re that one family member or friend who loves sharks, it’s literally all people buy you for your birthdays: shark cake, shark socks, shark chapstick, shark car cover and so on.
I take all the shark themed items I can get! 😁😁🦈
The guy staying perfectly still up until the nurse shark brushes him made my night. Such a great face. And I LOVE those shark cakes- as long as they taste good, they're good in my book!
I don't think I've ever heard of Shark Ramsay before. Is she mostly on tiktok?
Tik tok and Instagram mostly
That guy totally freaking out when the shark was swimming underneath him made my night 😂 Would have been different if he actually was in danger but in this case I can't stop laughing about the face he makes 🙈😂
Also I wanna see you play that game xD
If it’s on Xbox I think I have to 😂
@@SHARKBYTES Yes please 😂🙌🏻
I would like to see your face when something like that happens. I fully understand that he was shocked...
It’s always bothered me!!
Hey mate
With the clip if the great white "yawning", about half way through your video, you can see another white in the back ground.
It's hard to tell without full context, but is it possible that they are circling each other to establish hierarchy for feeding and the flex of the jaws is a display of power and size to help determine that?
It’s absolutely possible these sharks are communicating with each other via that yawning behaviour. As to what they’re saying - that’s unknown!
I'm CRYING at the guy screaming at the nurse shark! 🤣
Made me laugh so much
I went diving with sharks in Hawaii.
Hahahah I'd probably lean towards option one in this example!
Was it a reef shark? When agitated, they swim rigidly, swooped down pectorals, and gape their mouths to tell you to back away.

Hi Gabrielle! Glad you’re enjoying shark bytes 😁
Always enjoy your videos! I agree it's not IF Ocean Ramsey/colleagues get bitten or worse, it's WHEN!
7:37 I ended up rewinding so many times. I haven't laughed so much in over a year. The guy really did initially try to stay calm and keep his cool (so smart!) but as soon as he felt it brush against his tummy, the terror took over. But his sudden facial expression AND demeanor change made ME lose it.
Wow! Two new species of Hammerheads I hadn't heard of before! And I didn't know they were mammals!
🤦♂
flammable mammals at that hahahah
That second clip stole a dragon name from Harry Potter and slapped it on a Hammerhead LOL
I seem to remember seeing a documentary set in Alaska about person that got to complacent around large predators (Grizzly Man). I always tell tourist that the water around the shark is much more likely kill them than the shark, but they are still sharks and you need treat them like it.
I was thinking about grizzly man (and the grizzly fate of his girlfriend and himself) when I see the videos of Ocean swimming with these large dangerous sharks. Maybe it won't be her, but someone is definitely going to get hurt sooner or later.
Yes the grizzly man is a horrendous story
@@nicollekyostia6764 we had someone that got bit on the arm bye a large lemon shark or small tiger not to long ago here in the Turks and Caicos because they kept messing with it and crowding in as it was swimming right next to shore.
There is a short video of the shark swimming right next to the beach called "RED FLAGS UP on Grace Bay Beach" on magnetic media's face book page
@@SHARKBYTES Thank you for replying. I am honored. I know you are busy. I just watched a video about Ocean Ramsey called "The Shark Whisperer". Great message about conservation, but it's also terrifying. She's taking inexperienced shark divers OUT OF THE CAGE IN OPEN WATER with some VERY DANGEROUS sharks. How is she getting away with that? I feel like if it were polar bears or tigers the gov. would step in. This is going to end very badly.
That damn basking shark video is the bane of my life! Get so sick of "experts" saying it's DEFINITELY a great white.
Yeah definitely not for me!
@@SHARKBYTES Those same "experts" have probably never seen a great white, except for Jaws!
I keep going back and forth on it. Like I said in another post thar the way it turned to come back showed it had curiosity and the head look like a white. I think a basking would have stayed it's course.
Have you guys seen the video of the guy who jumps off the boat at a basking shark and his friend yells out that's not a basking shark? At first it looks like a basking until it turns and comes toward the boat.
@@sixfootben4892 yes I saw that video. Man what a idiot to just jump in like that and he got super lucky he didn't get bit.
Gotta hate it, but gotta love it. the lighting seemingly gets better and better every video!
Glad you’re enjoying the new lighting!!
Please do more Ocean Ramsay (and similar) stuff xxx
Might do a video looking at all these shark influencers
@@SHARKBYTES yes please! and when they reach out their arms to redirect the shark...please give feedback as to if they are making mistakes or give incorrect info
hi kristian, one day can you make a video on buccal pumping in sharks? for ages I thought that all sharks always had to swim to breathe but then it turns out its not true but its confusing trying to find information on which sharks do what, and I think it would be cool for a reliable shark youtuber to cover that
I second this, I didn't even know about the potential info in your message. I'd love to know more about it!
Hey!! I can certainly try and do that, I have mentioned buccal pumping in a few videos (movie commentaries mostly), although it’s own dedicated video could be worth doing
@@SHARKBYTES that would be wonderful thank you for reading comments! :>

I’m just back from The Maldives where I snorkelled with Nurse Sharks. Such beautiful, gentle creatures - truly “puppies of the sea”. 🤗
What an awesome destination to go to, i've always wanted to visit!
I could listen to this guy talk ALL DAY!!! Nice!
Thanks! 😁
The a-hole throwing the lemon was a jerk for that. I hope he didn’t cause permanent damage.
Lol.
Thanks Kris! ❤😂
Great video! The blond man freaking out when the nurse shark swims under him! Thanks for playing that twice! So freaking funny!!! 😂
Love it Shark bytes ❤ keep up the good work
Thank you!!
That guy's scream and expression is priceless🤣
Sharks must think of popular beaches as human infested waters
When Ocean Ramsay does get hurt it might be a bit like the Steve Irwin event.
Individually unfortunate but if you roll the dice enough eventually your luck runs out.
5:39 New sign slogan: NO SHARK TOSSING
I think that guy trying to release that baby shark was worried that if he let go, it would turn around and nip him, hence why he decided to yeet it and retreat out of the water.
I’ve been snorkeling in Indonesia and at an historic shipwreck I saw a shark! It was smallish, reminds me of that nurse shark in one of the clips, and the only one I saw around
There was a lot of people there, snorkeling at the surface and a handful were diving to get a closer look at the ship
The shark was near the ocean floor by the wreck, and I can’t help but wonder what it was going through with so so many people around
Usually sharks are pretty good at letting us know they’re not happy with our presence, I.e if they’re stressed, response number one is more often than not: swim away fast!
2:40 I thought it was a odd cartoon Blue Whale.
Another fab video 😅 bit off topic but you look so much like Jack Grealish 😅 that guys face with the NS swimming under him is hilarious
The girl in the vidéo at 8:05 says "don't move don't move, don't panic!"
He kinda do the exact opposit
Definitely the opposite thing they should have done 😂
Every time I hear "sharks are apex predators" I imagine some weird little shark telling the other fish "I'm an apex predator" before getting eaten.
Orcas and humans are, sharks probably not
Just laughed until I cried with this one! Thanks!
The poor shark in the first clip beached itself out of embarrassment at being in that video.
So glad I came across your channel 👍👍
Has there been any more information on that new Hammerhead species?😃
I came back to this video after 9 months. And let me tell you something, if that lemon shark was a baby dolphin, people would freak out and call him an animal abuser and all other sorts of insults, but since is a shark, and most people hate them for absolutly no freaking reason, the comments regarding that TikTok, were people laughing at the fact that he threw the shark, cause again is a shark and they don't care about sharks safety and whatnot -_-, I swear those people are hypocrites...
LOVE your videos this one is super hilarious
Thanks Penny!
@@SHARKBYTES hey I talked to Hal and he said he is super busy until the end of the year but will definitely get with you about y'all doing a show early in January. He said he would love to sit down with you. 😎
@@SHARKBYTES hi bro nice vids and also play that game
I cannot stand Ocean Ramsey...I think her ego is going to get her or someone else bitten, or worse. @4:51 definitely communicating with the other shark in the background. Probably establishing territory boundaries / size - "gaping" I believe it is called.
Really not a fan at all of Ramsey!
Those game characters have me CACKLING. That hammerhead has been drinking his protein shakes. Damn. 😂😂😂😂 I’d love to see you play this! Hell, I might go find it to try myself😂 (and I’m horrible at video games, so that would be fun lol)
I am also horrible at video games 😂
The fin gives it away as a whale shark, it's a almost a rounded triangle, great whites a jagged blade type shape with a more straight back and angled front.
I have to say, before today I never thought I'd see a shark with a six pack
Cutting-edge content as per on Shark Bytes 😂
There was a show called street sharks that had sharks with a six pack
When Ocean Ramsay gets bitten by a 14’ tiger shark, she will be saying how she doesn’t blame the animal… as it swims away with her arm!
Make sure to tell the camera before the shark attacks you, that you got your idea from Ocean Ramsay… I’d like to know how many attacks it’ll take!
Bloody hell, that's a Romanian ridgeback! My brother Percy works with those in Norway.
The hammerhead one killed me 🤣. Look at it's head rofl at least attempt to make it look like your name suggests 😆 But Flammable! lmfao!
At 7:53 the woman is saying “DO NOT MOVE” and then he immediately screams and thrashes around
That’s game looks kinda horrifying 😅
honestly have no idea what it is hahaha
Pretty sure that second one is the most hilarious thing I've ever heard 🤣
I love the way you take the Mickey and laugh at those crap tik Tom’s😊I couldn’t agree with you more😂😂
When, and I mean when, ocean Ramsey gets attacked or eaten it will be BAD for sharks.
Many years ago, a man in southern California had sharks in his saltwater pool. Oh, he got in trouble.....
like 9 minutes in, that's a bottle nose, likely near Tampa Bay, they do that all the time, they use their tail to stir up circles of silt around fish and do that little tail smack to scare them into it; then trap and eat them. Super common.
Shark 1 = leisurely boi. Shark 2 = flammable mammal. This is going to be good....
Hahahah that video was cracking me up so bad
Most deadly shark = most flammable mammal
Some of those cakes....were nightmare fuel.
That first one was cracking me up so bad

People like Ocean Ramsay make swimming with sharks look enticing. I've seen other people teaching how to redirect tiger sharks and whatnot. You're only teaching this if you think people are going to go out there and swim with tiger sharks and they are because you're making it seem cool and fun
whats species is the shark in ramsay video when she is about to dive, btw i agree with you about her
Honestly I fear the day these “Shark Influencers” get bit.
Steve Irwin finally got careless around a poisonous stingray and lost his life. A great loss in his case because he really championed animals
I also fear someone thinking they can just jump in with sharks like Ocean Ramsey does.
I’m reminded of the young Russian guy who just lost his life to a GW. When they hooked it, it looked juvenile but I’m not sure.
I think it makes sharks more willing to approach humans
Tik Tok needs shutting down.
speaking of owning sharks, i just recently found out that some people get huge aquariums and actually buy smaller species of sharks like the brownbanded bamboo shark. sounds bizarre to me, but i know nothing about fishkeeping, so… do you think that counts as animal abuse, or could these sharks somehow be okay living in captivity?
Yeah there are plenty of sharks that tend to do okay in a good aquarium setting - although there are also plenty of sharks that don't do well. I actually think we did a video on it back towards Season 1/2 of Shark Bytes!
We have lots of small lakes by the beach here in Naples that have landlocked alot of tarpon because of the brackish water. I've always wondered if I could have a bullshark lake?
@@SHARKBYTES thanks for the response, and i just found the video you mentioned! linking it here for anyone else who hasn’t seen it yet :)

Please don't yeet the shark. Currently my favourite thing to consider, not that I have or was planning to, or will, but it's funny. Thanks
8:20 as a kid I always had this fear everytime I saw someone jump into the water, that a shark was there waiting for them (well in this case the shark was coming for her but you get what I mean)
Here in Naples Florida there is a boat dock where people clean their fish and throw the guts in the water. Over the years lots of bullsharks , black tip and other sharks have called it home. If you jumped into or fell into that water you would be consumed quickly!! I'm actually surprised nobody has taken a drunkin stumble yet. Some of the bullsharks are over 8 feet long.
It was so close 😬😬😬
