    Thanks for making the video. I'm in my mid-40s, and I've been noticing some changes, and suspect that I'm in perimenopause. I've mentioned it to my doctor, but she hasn't offered any advice. It's good to hear what others are experiencing.

      It’s frustrating that your doctor didn’t order and advice. I’ve got a good list of books on this topic for a follow up video to help! I’m sorry your dr has been dismissive. I hope you can speak to a gynecologist who can help 💜

    Thanks for this, Cordelia! The women on my Dad's side of the family have POF (premature ovarian failure); some started as early as age 25. I suffer from this myself. I don't really know when I started as my symptoms were masked by being on the pill and I found out shortly after I got married at age 32 that I was already in full-blown menopause. I'm sorry you're not doing well--sending you some purple healing vibes 💜

      I’m finally on the mend! I am cleared to lift over 10 lbs, drive and go back to physical therapy. I’m so sorry to hear what happened to you! I hate how women’s health is basically ignored if it doesn’t revolve around having babies.

    PSA: if you are postmenopausal and have a period, please see your healthcare provider IMMEDIATELY. This is not normal and could be a sign of cancer. Please tell this to any women you know who are peri- or postmenopausal. Also, let your pharmacist (and physician) know about any supplements you take. I take calcium carbonate because I'm perimenopausal, and I have to stagger it with some of my meds as they can interact. I did a research project on menopause and hot flashes do not happen to everyone (fingers crossed for myself). I am terrified of menopause because my mom went through it after I was born, and she was ... unpleasant during those years. I've been perimenopausal for 2.5 years now, and so far, so good. Thanks Cordelia ❤

      Thank you for sharing this! I’m still having a period, but it’s very irregular because of taking Slynd all the way through. I’m trying to minimize me having them. My first of 2024 was in January. I’m grateful to not have hot flashes. Very cool that you did a research project! Thank you for sharing the PSA!

    My periods stopped when I was 36. They were irregular for about 3 months, then just ended. No doctor found it to be of any concern at all. And back then (I'm now 60), there was no talk whatsoever about how loss of estrogen affects heart, bone, brain and many other aspects of health. Recently, I heard that chronic cough post-menopause (which I seem to have developed) is a "thing," due to increased inflammation tendencies throughout the body, including the lungs. All these past 25 years, I probably should've been on HRT for those reasons. I never did have any of the typical peri- or menopause symptoms, so doctors just waved it off as "lucky you!" Yes, it seriously sucks, how we are ignored in medical research!

    • @Phyrra
      @Phyrra  10 місяців тому

      Have you spoken to a gyn recently to see if HRT might be something you need / or would help you now? I'm so sorry to hear how drs have failed you. I can relate because I've had so many medical issues where drs just wrote it off.

    I would like to add that I had symptoms very similar to yours but it turned out that I have Prolactinoma. Basically I have a benign tumor on my Pituitary that over produces the hormone Prolactin. It basically gives me severe pregnancy symptoms (luckily I did not have Lactation but many do), which I had confused as premenopause symptoms because I knew I absolutely could not get pregnant. And ironically Prolactinoma also stops your periods and makes your infertile. But this experience, and all the research I have done around it, has lead me to discover that at least 50% of women will deal with some kind of major issue regarding their Endocrine or Reproductive system, or a hormonal imbalance, and at least 70% of them go undiagnosed. So I highly encourage every women to not be afraid to insist your Primary Care Doctor or OBGYN refer you to an Endocrinologist to have a full hormonal workup done anytime something feels a little off. We all know our own bodies the best, and no matter what they try to tell us is "normal", we know when something isn't right. Because most Primary Care Doctors and OBGYNS do not test for some of the most common issues. My symptoms went on for years and I had tons of testing done by my PC and multiple OBs, who just kept telling me nothing was coming up in the testing and what I was experiencing was normal hormonal changes. Yet it was very easily found my Prolactin numbers were high, as well as my Testosterone and some other things weren't where they should be, with the first test my Endo did. This has made me firmly believe that all women should go to see an Endo to have a full work up done every 2 years starting at the age of 25, and it should be treated as being just as important as your annuals with your OBGYN.

Like I feel it's ridiculous that some of the gynecologists I saw could not be more helpful. And I know that I can't be alone in wanting to see more conversations on this topic.

    This was very helpful. Thank you. I had an endocrinologist who said "you're X years old, you're probably in menopause" (he repeated this multiple times). However, he didn't do anything further and instead of referring me to a OB/GYN he gave me a phone number to try to find one myself and said "goo luck". Even though, as with all specialties it requires an actual referral. Now that I finally have a GP I am going to try to get some real answers and a better plan of action.

    Oh yeah I'll talk about it! I'm fully paused and taking synthetic estrogen. Natural (horse) estrogen spiked my blood sugar for some reason. My doctor has been responsive to my needs and I haven't suffered much at all. It probably was relatively easy because I had a hysterectomy at age 37 (adenomyosis and fibroids) and therefore got to skip out on what would have probably been the worst part. However, about 4 years ago I had to get off of my antidepressants because of allergies, so some old trauma symptoms popped out. Still trying to get through that. I think the timing of that is just coincidental. You may notice in your fifties that your spinal disks compress some and you lose height even if your bone density is good. I kind of forgot about that and was surprised when I had lost 1/4 inch of height over the past 5 years.
