    When i use the realize instances my texture is gone, also i already have a set material node, and i have tried to put it after and before realize instances node, but nothing works, anyone knows how to keep the material of the OG object?

    My problem is that my geometry nodes rely on curves, when I click apply it tells me "convert to mesh" in order to apply. When I convert to mesh my geometry nodes instances disappear. When I use "realize instances" it doesn't do anything different, except that it removes any texturing from the instances.

      Not sure if i understood your problem correctly, but inserting realize instance at the end like above video, but instead of applying the geometry node in modifier, just right click the object and select convert curve to mesh.

    Guys use - > "Realize Instances" node when encountering a problem "evaluated geometry from modifier does not contain a mesh"

      It doesn't help. I added a 'Realize Instances' node as the 2nd last node - just before 'Group Output'. But I still get that exact error.

    Hmm, something odd is happening to my model when I use Realize Instances. I have a collection with a Material that uses a ColorRamp. Each instance gets a random color from red, green, blue, yellow and white. When I add Realize Instances all instances turn blue. Adding an Apply Material node turns the entire model white. Is there a way to apply to each material to each instance before realizing the instances so it also carries over the randomized colors?

      @@picopau_ Hi, yes I did! But it's been so long. I remember it had something to do with baking the texture and then applying it to the model. Sorry about that! Google helped a lot but I did have to some digging.

    Thanks Ryan that helped a ton I just needed one different step for the curves since it doesn't let you apply the modifier to curves I had to convert it to a mesh in the objects drop down and it makes a separate object that is the mesh

    for those not using blender 3.1, to make instances real press ctrl+A birngs up apply menu, select make instances real, works with blender 2.92.

    Doesn't seem to work if the underlying geometry is a curve that is the basic reference point. If I convert the curve to a mesh first, the geometry node doesn't produce the correct result that's based on a curve. I'm stumped on this one.

    for me realize instance is not working :( I used a simple point distribute, but the points always vanish when i hit apply

      I did Ctrl+A - Make Instances Real and it worked. It made all the instances into individual meshes, which made a mess of my collection but I could export it after that.

    I have this problem where I have used a curve (a vertical line with no depth) to make a rose with geometry nodes. In order to apply the geometry nodes I have to convert the curve into a mesh. When I do that, my geometry nodes rose just disappears. I also cannot add depth to the curve, because that messes up the entire rose. How can I fix this? Anyway I can fix this? I really want to convert the geometry nodes into an editable mesh

    Did it also work with your Ivy Tutorial node? I got an error if I apply Geometry Nodes : "Cannot apply constructive nodes on curve. Convert curve to mesh in order to apply"
    If I do this, all leaves are gone.

    Hi Ryan, When using "Realize Instances" to apply the Geo Nodes modifier, how do you texture bake the result? For Example... suppose the cube object in this video has a material and is unwrapped and textured. After scattering the cube object, and applying the GN modifier, the mesh scatter won't texture each individual cube correctly. What you get are pieces of the original texture spread over the whole scatter. Using "Set Materials in GN doesn't help. It looks to me that the mesh scatter has to be RE-unwrapped so each cube can be baked properly, but how do you do that? You might have a hundred scatter objects. The original uvmap gets lost if you try. I know it's a year since you made this video, but I honestly can't find a solution anywhere: HOW do I Bake a Geometry Nodes Scatter. This would make a great tutorial topic. Please help

      second this! im having a hard time with my Sprinkles that are scattered on my donut using geometric nodes. They also use a colorramp that with neo nodes randomise the color so it has been a real nightmare figuring this out! Please Ryan help us out ;_;

    I was following the classic donut tutorial cuz im new to blender but i decided i wanted to import my donut into Roblox studio. This tutorial helps with turning the sprinkles into a mesh but is there any way to make them keep their randomised colour? When i apply it the sprinkles just turn the same colour as the icing

    I tried to use this to turn a tree created in MTree, leaves and all, into mesh so I could use it in Blender 3.2 but it seems to have realised the twigs without the leaves. The problem is that even the latest version of MTree uses legacy nodes which will all be gone before Blender 4.0 and, it seems, are already being withdrawn. It just means I need to learn more about geometry nodes!

    Reading a lot of commenters that seem to have done the same thing I've done. Made a brick wall using a curve and geometry, not finding that they can't apply it. I can't apply my Geometry because it says "Cannot apply constructive modifiers on curve. Convert curve to mesh in order to apply". So I can't seem to do that, or find the answer. Realizing the instances doesn't let me do it. Object -> convert -> mesh doesn't work either. Just getting wrecked with this issue honestly.

    can you please help me short.     I have a string light set up with nodes that make little ico spheres that act as lights. How can I apply this? It won't let me apply the geometry node modifier unless it's already a mesh but If I make my curve a mesh, the spheres disappear.

    This video is great thank you so much for sharing your content! I am making neuron fractal structure tree which has multiple object info nodes. When I apply the modifier it only applies to the object that the modifier is placed on. To simplify i added extra branches that come out of the main tree but only main tree is exported but not the extra branches as they are separate objects. Is there any way to convert the full object into 1 mesh?

    after trying to apply, it tells me to "transform curve to mesh in order to apply constructive modifiers". So I did convert my geometry node flower into a mesh, but it got all messed up and the mesh was scattered in random places. What should I do?

      @@panaiotdushmanov3822 I just tried again to see if it was 3.2 and now I get an error saying "transform curve to mesh to apply constructive modifiers"
      I'm looking at quite large node trees and not sure where I need to transform, everything I've tried breaks the end result lol
      EDIT: still no solution but I realised that was geo nodes on a curve object, I've gone back to check another from a mesh and still get the same problem.
      They're a procedural tree and procedural grass set ups from tutorials on here somewhere

    Uh, I knew you were a shader tab wizard, (and a rebel, e.g., the Snow Globe), but I didn't realize you had a more than a couple of geonode tuts. Is the Playlist "Geometry Nodes Blender Tutorials" the only GN videos? I remember more than the 5 in the video tab list... I could be conflating you with others...
    Either way, GN's is the future (says Houdini for years) and your skill set should be perfect to fill in videos not served prior by your videos (check your google analytics: Research Tab/Content Gaps [don't be concerned how I know about that... waves hand like an OG jedi]).
    Unleash your power on GN's, I'd watch those videos. You could do the same thing with the GN "trees" as with your shaders by offering them for sale too. (Theoretically. I've been getting reports from content creators that the sales of their addons have been slowing down a lot reflecting the real economy, not our politicians pollyanna protestations to the opposite, but you have to be in the game, to win it... who knows what tomorrow brings.)
    My two cents... and thanks for this video, I forgot the name of the node to realize my instances, because I'm in a total of 15hr in to Blender's GN implementation and I'm learning at saturation levels... so I forget details the first couple of passes...

      Well sure, that works for most things. But if you are distributing objects, then you need to add another node first to get it to work.

    Is there a way to apply geometry nodes to a mesh and then 'enable' or 'drive' that change via a shape key? i.e. basis shapekey at 0 has no geometry nodes applied, but basis shapekey at 1 has the geometry node applied
