- I was intrigued to see the difference between the HD and original story trailers for Silent Hill 2. I spliced the HD and Original trailers together to find what similarities there were in scenes with the Remake Story Trailer. I hope you enjoy.

Though I like both remake Maria and the og, I definitely prefer the new Eddie. His performance looks more believable as a tortured soul who has suffered psychological abuse for too long, finally snapped, and is now practically dead inside with nothing left to to spur him on but to violently unleash all that pent up bitterness. OG Eddie felt more like a sadistic psycho who just discovered his true nature.
2 interpretations, both good. But I am for sure here for the remake version more than the OG. And I reckon that is amazing the remake can give that to us.
It's so creepy that Eddie looks like Dan Schneider.

when i hear maria original vs remake, the voice in the original it feels like calming she is trying ti let james feels safe but in the remake it is more sinister and let you feels how is james feels confused what can i trust what is going on, the voice acting is on point i love it
Two different approaches from the actors but both equally effective to tell the story. Something isn't quite right. Something is unsettling. But James's confusion remains.
@@thatswitchy Imho original one is better. Maria in OG sounds caring, empathetic and that makes us, the player, and James feel that something is of. She acts like Mary would and it only fuels this psychological horror. The moment when James ask her is she is who she is, she switches her warm mannerism to this cold, ruthless one. It's Silent Hill trying to mimik person James knew and loved, but in so strange way that it can't fool him, and when he starts to have doubts, it just shows it's true colours. It's all gone in remake. Maria sounds mechanical and cold from the get go - it just kills all the tension and horror.
@@lxdead5585 I think it is hard to tell from this one scene, how Maria will feel in the game overall because you don’t have the contextual lead up. I believe a lot of people are mistaking rigid self-awareness of Maria for mechanical.
@@thatswitchy do You people cant read with understanding? I stated clearly that prison scene in comparison between OG and remake is better in OG for reasons I pointed out in previous comment. Your vid is comparison between 2 trailers, yet You - I do not know for what reason - brings whole game for context. It doesnt matter how her mannerism looks like in remake. If she is like this - mechanical - entire time on screen than its even more worrying. She is suppoused to be seductive, hight esteem, assertive (in term of speaking her mind) character. Not to mention she felt weird as much as her first appearance. When James finds her again, she acts more innocent, warm, empathetic - the way Mary did, cuz thats how James remembered her before she got sick. Thats the image of her which Silent Hill picked from James memories and mimiked, but since its total opposite of how James know Maria, he is disturbed which makes the city to stop Maria playing her act, something which is even more cold, strange and unnerving. Silent Hill uses her to play with James mind, guilt, hopes and fesrs creating only more paranoia. This very same scene with Maria is just bad. Somehow they got Mary scenes right, as good as OG trailer.

The environment from the original looks better. As in looks more decayed & old. Hopefully I'm proven wrong in October

The original trailer definitely seems more scary but the new one is a tease in a good way
There were a few trailers too plus the opening trailer. I think both have done a good job 👍🏼 and the minute that song hits, your taken off to Silent Hill. It’s so classic. I am glad they kept the soundtrack from the original and re-recorded it for the remake.
I like that the new trailer is more story oriented and less combat oriented

I see this becoming like RE4 remake a successful release depending on gamers thoughts with it of course...but sales wise i do see it becoming something we'll enjoy...who knows though
As they say, the proof in the pudding is the eating! It has potential and hopefully that potential gets realised. Fingers crossed.
@@thatswitchy i mean reviews and the actual game itself is two completely perspectives all in all I believe 2 things in the RE4 remake could have stayed the same just like 1 thing in silent hill could've stayed the same...
What do you feel so far of what you’ve seen could have stayed the same? I know a lot of people feel what should not be different is based on Maria’s changes.
@@thatswitchy in resident evil 4 they changed the giant stone chase sequence which they had no reason to change but did for some odd reason and the other was the no thanks bro catch phrase was taken out which also had no reason to take out ...and this they changed the conversation sequences which doesn't make any sense why change what makes the games a masterpiece 🤔 its truly bizarre
We’ve only seen part of the Maria conversation so far just like in the original. So we’ll have to wait to see the full one. I’ve not played re4 yet but do have the original because I’d like to play that first.
I’m not sure if you’ve played or seen dead space and it’s remake. They did a similar thing in there too, changed a few things but it still worked as a stand alone game. I didn’t like they reveal the main characters face at the start though. That wasn’t the case in the original.
I just can't get on board with all the changes to maria. she look ridiculous and that's not even how Jame's mind would see her. Did the people make the game play the game? Or are they being puppeteered by greater powers?
Most opinions are that sometimes with a male dominated company or people trying to be sensitive end up overcorrecting, instead of letting the character be what was meant for the story.

No one will be happy 100% of the time, an impossibility. Just enjoy what it brings for sure.
complaining is usually pretty sound nowadays especially since devs and gaming companies will purposefully change things they know will piss people off and refuse to change it.

New Maria's just shooting her lines without any passion. No intonation, no pauses, nothing... They didn't even try to recreate original tone of voice...
In my opinion, I don't think they were trying to recreate it. Each actor when they take on a role brings their interpretation based on how they understand a character. There are also generational styles of acting. The benefit we do have is mocap with these actors, unlike the VA's from 2001. This will change the approach.
I understand the approach of the new Maria is more sinister aware, perhaps trying to not hide her awareness of who she is to James to James's face in this scene as much as the previous interpretation.

I'm surprised most don't point this out, but the remake just lacks a soul. Where's the dreamy way of talking? Where's the ridiculous choice of clothing in a horror setting? The weird enunciation on words? All the main 4 silent hills had this trope, but it was just 'bad voice actors'? I don't buy it, and I'm not liking the way they've marketed the game, i mean what game company goes out to legacy game media to say 'guys plz dont dislike the game, give us a chance', thats such childish behavior.
Valid opinions on the remake. The OG will always exist remake on remake. Did you know the PC Enhanced Edition is getting a final update on August 30th?
@@thatswitchy You cant tho? their page directly tell you that you need to have a CD of the game, or download it online, which is ofc illegal
I dont think its viable to suggest someone to commit an illegal act, just to play a video game. The game's not on steam, its not on GOG despite silent hill 4 being there. IF the game was readily accessible, even in a bad port so u could fix it up with mods thatd be fine, but right now u just cant
New one has way more soul with the main character guy, he is actually believable empathetic character, the old version was lacking in personability
I think mocap really helps
