I had a 69' in my early 20s. I am happy to say that I just picked another one up after 30+ yrs of wanting. It will also be a total rebuild. I'm glad your a yr ahead so I can pace myself to you. Good luck.
WOW, good luck with the GT, I sincerely hope that yours is not as bad as mine was...Even the roof is completely rotten... Any plans to document the project somewhere?
@GT1900garage I'm not much of a social media guy, but I am taking a ton of pics. Im getting a wood stove in the shop this weekend to keep warm this winter. I may post on one of the Opel GT forums need ideas...
Thanks for the comment. Trying my best to find my own way to present the progress of this project. And hopefully get few viewers to return to channel for new material.
Mine is a 1971 as well. I have owned it 2x now after buying it back 850 miles from where I sold it and 30 years later. I found something of mine in it. mind blowing.
Wow, these kind of stories are valuable only for another motor junkie. Truly WTF moment that no one else can appreciate... Congrats for getting you old GT back home...
Wow! Very ambitious! I owned a 1969 Opel GT 1900 from 1979 through early 2000s. Did quite a bit of work including body repair, paint and engine rebuild. Certainly nothing like the complete tear down you are performing. Oh, the memories! Fun little car to drive though hated baking in it during Kansas summers without air conditioning. I’m really enjoying your videos on this project. Keep up the great work! Edit: Yeah, those headlights are quite a tight fit. Very tough to not chip the paint.
Thanks for the comment. Truly appreciated it. Yes this is very small sports car and I can imagine it performs best on small curvy tarmac roads (Or miles and miles of straight roads in KS ). And about being inside the oven...I assume that mid-front engine next to your legs does not help..or black vinyl interior. Thanks for finding this channel, hope you stay along for the rest of the journey.
Well spotted. Soup is main contributor and inspiration for my channel. And luckily so, since without this channel, I most likely would have ditched the project.....or have very low motivation to work on it ..... Now challenges truly feels like challenges, not obstacles
Made me remember my Manta A mid 70ish something model. Had plans for straight six etc. but too much work. The car itself had been owned by a chainsmoker...agyrt 12 strong buckets of hot water with powerful detergents the smell was still there. Sold it again.
I've just found your channel. I liove old Opels of this era so I'll try and catch up and follow along. It would be great to see it go back to the lovely original colour.
Oh nooooo….Flashbacks of freezing to death, driving with my buddy to high school in Chicago suburb in a green one with cardboard covering rust holes in passenger floorboards with snow and slush occasionally sneaking through 😎
@@GT1900garage You should. Unless you have a full scale of A-L chrome trim - around 60 pieces. Which is prohibitive expensive even in bad condition. And cobbling together a -J with e.g. chrome bumpers doesn't look right as well.
A friend who owned one of these said the "GT" stood for _Got Troubles_ . Anyway, I'm assuming this was originally painted orange and it got painted a different color along the way.
Your friend is a wise man...Yes, as far as I have been able to detect, this car has been painted in five different colors. This car was used as a TV and Movie prop car for a decade, hence in poor condition...
Unfortunately I will not share that info, but you can buy GTs in Europe everything between 2000€ to 20000€. Depending on condition. But as I have learned, you might want to consider either fully stripped or fully restored GT, everything in between may be either jackpot or a disaster....

Oh, totally disagree. These are not boring. Its like people; interesting is not the loudest one, but the one with a good story. Special and rare cars are the interesting ones, not the kind that everyone has already seen...😄
What a great channel👍. Glad I found you!
Thanks and welcome. Stay tuned for future episodes...
Only half way through first episode, and already impressed with your approach 👍
Welcome aboard! I assume you went through the journey so far...Please stay tuned for episodes to come...
The best Car restoration Videos 😊You are very good.
That is an overstatement, that I like... Thanks !

Stop motion like Soup Classic Motoring! A good influence.

Subscribed. Bonjour from Canada 🇨🇦 😊. Love the first video!
Bonjour, thanks for subscription, hope you enjoyed rest of the videos as well..

HAH, I truly can picture this... The slush and salt. We do have it here too...Luckily this car will never be driven in those conditions....
I subscribed to your channel, very nice videos and a very nice project you started. Great work.
Thanks for your comment. Glad that your found my channel. Hope you stay in for rest of the project.
Great 👍🏻
Thanks ✌️
I am enjoying the videos. I have a 71 and 71 Opel GT. The 72 needs a full restoration. Video will be helpful for reference.
Best kind of commment that i could have. Thanks. Next part will be out hopefully next weekend.
En Opel GT 🤩🤩
Subbed!
Thank You, welcome and stay tuned for more episodes...
Needs minor restauration...😆 I love your stop motion videos. So cool.
Thanks again!
hard work!
Hieno projekti. menee seurantaan 👍
Kiitos kommentista, hienoa että kiinnostaa. Monta jaksoa vielä tuloillaan, projekti vasta alussa
I wish the”ghosts” in my garage would stop taking my car apart!👻
And I wish that the reassembly would be as easy as dismantling was...
Nice👍
Thanks for comment, hope you were entertained for the 10 minutes you spent !!
According to the chromeless window rubbers and black bumpers it is a GT-J ... "economy version", slightly scaled-down for costs.
Yes, it is. Not 100% shall I keep the original J look or.....

Yes, agree... the J look in mint condition still looks as cool as normal GT

How much did the GT cost to buy?

@@GT1900garage thank you, by the way the project looks great on the latest video
You bough a car with self dismantle option! Going to be easy project?
Ayeee! Just sipping my beer and see the magic happen. I certainly hope that assemby mode is included as well...
3:13 yeah you dont wanna do that lol, Ive made that mistake
HAH , yes...I agree. Although, it will be interesting to see at the end....
Those wheels look Ferrari-esque.
Yes, they are cool wheels, Not sure should I keep them on, or wanting something slightly bigger rims...

I’m cringing! There are about 7000 parts and a rusty shell. I sold off my Jensen Healeys when they became too much work for me.
...and the rusty shell is divided to 5000 more rusty pieces... But hey, its better hobby than jumping off buildings...
these cars may look as a muscle sports car but no they are booring. Congatulation with a car that will give you grayer beard fast lol but good luck

@@GT1900garage Bravo! Great reply and I agree totally!! I had a 72 Opel GT and loved it!
