Fascinating restoration, I adore the enthusiasm, professionalism and every detail of the assembly process! How sad that modern engineers no longer manufacture cars like these, and they know the reason... they replaced steel and durability with polymers, sensors and modules, for that reason I prefer old school cars like this beautiful and legendary Renault 4. My old housemaster from school was a Renault 4 nut,he had loads of them.He'd send components,engines and body shells to my father to restore or repair for him, I remember as a school boy carting the smaller stuff like pistons,starter motors etc. back and forth between school and my father's workshop for his restorations.

Unique little cars with really eccentric character, unlike the electronic bathtubs of today. Thanks!

This is not a Renault “4 L” (“L” for luxury) but the R3 van. The "L" had a small window in the rear quarter, upholstered seats, etc. As well as many other differences such as the chrome front grille and, among other things, a four-speed gearbox.

not true i have it as it came out first a 4 with the L crossed in golden letters and luxus isnt seen at any level on any part of this R4L, but the gearbox coment you done is correct , mine is a 64 the younger one, the older a 61 both 3 gear box the first had a very litle dash but it says 4L in golden also the correct voltage as it were some of the cheapest cars at the time
when paris-dakkar was the really paris-dakkar it was a dare devil race so many not found since the first edition ,no brands were involved in the crossing of Africa , once a guy went with a Renault 4 L but it had been changed in his backyard ,the same year a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow also was in the rally

The older one as L in crossed with the 4, the other not so much younger have the steering wheel in red but you can see the metal round part of the steering inside and looks rotten, i also had the coupé version of the other renault who´s with the trailer, i have 4 from the 60´s , 3 renaults from the 70´s , two from the 80´s and one from the 90´s, nice restoring done, if i do the same to mine it only stays sand after the power cleaning, but they drive good without falling apart as they were heavilly used if i start taking parts it all crumbles to a pile of whatever is there holding it together

Et, de plus, de nombreuses versions de Renault 4, destinées aux administrations, n'avaient pas cette troisième glace, et ce presque jusqu'à fin de production des Renault 4. Ici, il s'agit d'un rarissime modèle de présérie, reconnaissable à la goulotte re remplissage de réservoir basse, et à son capot "lisse", sans bossage central. Donc il ne s'agit absolument pas d'une R4L, mais en fait d'une R4. Cette restauration avait fait l'objet d'articles de journaux en France, et a été menée par une équipe spécialisée dans les Renault anciennes...
Too bad there's no actual footage of the work being done 😢. The music is annoying but ......the end result is simply great !! I love the R4 and have driven one years ago (newer version of this one btw). So much better than the 2CV 😊

J'ajoute que ce modèle est très intéressant car étant de présérie, en attestent le capot plat sans nervure centrale et la goulotte de remplissage de carburant positionnée plus bas (on voit la découpe dans l'aile arrière droite). Pour la série la goulotte a été positionnée plus haute car jugée dangereuse en cas d'accident. La restauration fidèle a remis la goulotte dans sa position d'origine (basse). Pour terminer en début de vidéo, le parechoc avant n'est pas d'origine et l'alternateur n'existait pas, c'était une simple dynamo...

Pas de garnitures de portes, volant 3 branches, pas de jauge à carburant mais juste un témoin, pas de calandre alu et portières de phare peintes et non chromées, pas de vitres de custode et les vitres des portes arrière monobloc, non coulissantes, entre autres... Et un monogramme en alu brossé "3" sur le hayon arrière, absent sur ce modèle, devenu très rare!
