Interesting layout so far! It will be interesting to see how the motor works out. The house village looks nice just gotta get Lauren to paint a couple different colors on them. The ski lift is a great addition as well and will be fun to watch! Happy railroading!!! 😅
Maybe im to late by now, but as general tipp i learned the hard way myself, try to avoid cutting all kind of material in the room your tracks will be setup for use. The fine dust from that will never disapear and you kill yourself cleaning tracks over and over again…. 😅😂 Great pleasure to see you have fun building and learning step by step new stuff and solutions. Happy new year to you and your family. 🎉
Thanks for the mention regarding the position of the station Ken! Also if the ski resort is successful it would probably make that station pretty busy during the winter vacation season! 👍🙏
Splendid to have such imaginative and adventurous plans for the layout. Seems your mind has been very active while resting with that knee up. Great to see such good progress with the knee and the layout 👍👍👍👍👍
Cool Video & Ideas on the Ski Lift! Need to make the mountains bigger! When i was growing up, there was a guy that did a "Circus Parade" at a local Mall. I think it was Chain Driven but i always wondered how he did it!
Wow Ken, neat idea. I have seen lifts made with old record player motors, merry go rounds etc ... hopefully that motor isn't too fast. I think you should build some slope with foam on top of the high box and set the building back a tad from the edge ... just my thoughts. Good luck - I'll keep watching !!
Have you considered magnetic couplings? Makes it possible to hook, or un hook without touching the cars! Nice when you have a rail yard. Love watching you enjoy retirement.
Suggestion - make a sturdy box raised floor on the left, maybe stepped in two heights, for easy access to the top of the mountain. Don't want to be balancing on step-ladders etc.
Its your layout to do as you please but are you modeling summer and winter on different sections? Also the inexpensive plastic trees can be spruced up ( pun intended) by spraying or dipping in adhesive and applying different ground covers for variation.
If I might suggest, build a gondola instead of a ski lift. The bottom of ski lifts are snow covered as well whereas a gondola takes skiers from the base of the mountain to the ski areas. Most of the gondolas I’ve ridden end in building while ski lifts don’t have one in my experience. Unless, of course, you really want to build skiers coming down. Then just put a snow patch at the bottom.
Ken ,Always try a new thing I have had many hobbies embroidery knitting painting art weaving spinning and more crafts don’t do any of them now but was enjoyable getting these skills and passing them on to others also made money from some of the products made
Id cut the platform on the front of the building put railing around the plat form .it could be a place for watching skiers go down the mountain . Thats just my thoughts its your layout
you can use canned spray foam to decorate for landscapes, it takes practise to get the look you want, and it can be painted, just a thought. God bless, matthew6:33, proverbs3:5
@@Kens265 the spray foam is hard to get it stuck on ceilings, but once you get some stick, you are on your way, it is tricky getting started cause the foam sometimes don't want to stick, i have a whole room done with spray foam, i shaped trees and scenery, don't have a cell phone otherwise i would send pictures. God bless
Have a look at Dave Meeks Thunder Mesa 0n30 layouts. You will see how he does the mountain backdrops, which are superb; but don't follow too closely or you'll relocate your layout to Arizona by mistake!! Regards, Paul in Cornwall. U.K.
Forced perspective Ken. The station at the top of the mountain should appear small to suggest a greater distance. Consider using N-scale structures, trees, people at the top.
Kit bash that station you want to use take a end wall shorten the long wall glue end to new hort leave the roof have the ski return under eitger side from where you removed end wall hence small meeting area afterthey depart the lift cut wall between door and window that penty big (( so small meeting area long roof lift under open roo f)) * Happy Rails *
Vermont railway has their right of way through the Okemo ski resort in ludlow Vermont. I did a little googling and found this: ua-cam.com/video/DhJ7gFSoB6s/v-deo.htmlsi=aCY2wIxD7JYaSiQC. I am sure there are other images and video but here’s a start! Good luck on your plans moving forward.
If you can get 250 people on one train, you are doing better business in VT than AmTrak does ;) This lift looks like it will be a lot of fun (and design work!) to build. "Do what you do and don't do anything else"???? Those people need to watch and learn what a creative mind can do. I think the building is better with the landing on the back side, you wouldn't want the skiers walking right under the cable up there. They can use the landing to look over the vista on the side you access it from.
Hello Ken. Your mountain is too big at ten feet and will overwhelm the layout. I suggest half that size. You diesels are all newer than 1960 but you passenger cars are from the 1800's.
It’s a heritage service ( run by volunteers that they run specially just during the skiing season. ) I’ve heard their breakfast bagels are delicious ha ha! 😁🚂🚃🚃🚃
Ken that motor looks big enough to start a truck! ( what’s the rpm buddy? Because 30 or 40 rpm would be more than enough, so you are probably going to need a variable rheostat on it)
You are building it backwards, you should of done the track, the mountain, the sky lift, before the the rest of your layout. You are bottlenecking the rest of your layout.

Yes maybe a restaurant there
Love your passion and vision for your layout. You're doing great and sounds like you're getting some great advise 👌
Thanks so much!
Go for it Ken! I love all your ideas, really looking forward to this project!
Thanks
Splendid to have such imaginative and adventurous plans for the layout.
Seems your mind has been very active while resting with that knee up.
Great to see such good progress with the knee and the layout 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks to much time on my hand is costing money
Exciting times! You have quite the imagination, Ken. Can’t wait for next episode.
Thanks
Im looking forward to seeing the ski lift working along with moving cars. This will be something to see. Might be more interesting than the trains. 😊
Thanks you may be right
Cool Video & Ideas on the Ski Lift! Need to make the mountains bigger! When i was growing up, there was a guy that did a "Circus Parade" at a local Mall. I think it was Chain Driven but i always wondered how he did it!
Thanks I agree
This is going to be interesting to get the ski lift working. As always, you keep your viewers interested in your UA-cam videos.
Thanks I think so
Oh wow, so cool, thanks you for sharing this magnificent video 👍🏻
Thanks. I’m really enjoying it
Wow some grand plans! Can’t wait to see it.
Thanks they’re changing by the minute
Great video 👍
Glad you liked it!
Now hurry up, Kenn. The snow is coming soon. The lift must be running! I wish you a happy new year!
Hahahaha I’m on it

Looking great.
Thanks I appreciate it

Thanks I appreciate it. I think the Kay dee couplings are magnetic but I never got them working right
This is getting real good.dont forget the camping site! lol stay safe now!! Mike Peabody , Massachusetts 13:27
Haha thanks Mike. Hmmm where to put that
Ken Larry Taylor has made a good point. You should show the skiers ascending on the ski lift, as most of them will be skiing down!
Right I’ll work on that
Suggestion - make a sturdy box raised floor on the left, maybe stepped in two heights, for easy access to the top of the mountain.
Don't want to be balancing on step-ladders etc.
Cool idea! Thanks
Its your layout to do as you please but are you modeling summer and winter on different sections? Also the inexpensive plastic trees can be spruced up ( pun intended) by spraying or dipping in adhesive and applying different ground covers for variation.
It looks like it might take in both
Ok. Good luck with the ski lift .
Loving it
Thanks

A mag lift or a monorail 🚝 would be interesting 🤔 Ken I’m thinking of you doing more work after surgery than before. 2nd knee may keep you very busy.
Hahahaha. Definitely less physical work
Ken ,Always try a new thing I have had many hobbies embroidery knitting painting art weaving spinning and more crafts don’t do any of them now but was enjoyable getting these skills and passing them on to others also made money from some of the products made
Wow that’s cool. Knit one pearl two.
The motor is way too large for the scale of the layout. Can you mount the motor on the under side of the table?
Thanks yes I’m planning on running underneath and running multiple things with I
Looking great ken maybe you can find someone on ytube that would 3 D print gears for you ..off too work I go..🐊🌴😎
Yes or 3d print a gondola
They may be able to 3d what ever you want lol I believe you would have too move to Paris for the boat ,🐊🌴🌴😎
Might I suggest that you use the ski lift fully ‘above’ the tracks. You want high altitude for skiers…and it would make it much simpler…
Thanks I’ll take a look at that
Maybe you can have some magnetic skaters too
Right good idea

What is "7/8 of the fun" in metric? ;)
Haha almost a sillymeter
@@Kens265 Good one. Made me laugh.

face the wood with a rock face which will allow you options when detailing it
Yes! I like that
I suggest showing the riders going up and hiding them coming down. They would mostly ski down

Wow. I should mail it to you and let you chop and channel it! Sounds like you have a plan! :)
It is looking awesome I wish you could help with mine I do love your videos awesome job 👍👍🚆🚂🚆🚂
Thanks so much. I bet yours is looking great
Good day to all.
Good day to you too!
@Kens265 Yep.
Remember, Think Scale 1/78.
Right
I want to hear you yodel😊
😂😂😂 Please don't get him started!!! 😂😂😂
No you don’t. :)
Haha
Fun : 😊 school to k-8th grade baseball field or soccer or softball.
Hahahaha!

Wow that was pretty cool
It’s your ski lift, but I would build the lift such as you see skiers going up the lift. Skiers are skiing down, not riding the lift.
Thanks maybe gondolas so yo can’t see inside
@ Gondolas would work and they go inside buildings. Skiers carry their skis in gondolas.

Just really busy during the winter skiing season .
Hahahaha thanks I agree
The skiers will exit inside the building.
Right
You need a bigger table😂😂😂
Never big enough
How are you doing today I am doing good I like that
Doing well. Glad you’re doing well

I don’t think it will be my the time I’m done
