As a German, I cannot tell you how shocked I was that they not only hired an actual German speaker to play the Grandma instead of some random American who learned her lines phonetically - but an Austrian. Someone from the region that actually celebrates Krampus Night.
Not only does she speak real German, she speaks it with the appropriate accent for a Krampus story, a detail absolutely no American watcher is going to appreciate. :D

I was thinking the same. Always bugs me a little when you can so clearly hear that the person learned their lines phonetically, especially for languages that are spoken natively by so many people living in the U.S.
This level of detail, the right regional accent, is very cool and shows a of respect for the project and its source material

America is the most diverse country in the world by a lot when it comes to nationality, religion, race and culture. It is very very very common to have foreigners in American cinema to portray characters authentically. It is very very very common in foreign films to have characters portrayed by people who are not authentic so you have zero knowledge or understanding of American cinema or cinema anywhere for that matter. Maybe you should look at your own countries and others horrible movies before implying blatant lies about Americas. The majority of movies in america that don’t portray certain people correctly are usually foreign controlled movies in America or very low budget films that can’t afford it.

Krampus is such a good time from start to finish. While some of the characters are straight up horrible assholes, I still find them rather entertaining and funny at times. I still do not understand why none of the adults stopped the girls from reading Max's letter to Santa. It wasn't even a bad letter by any means and Max just wanted it to be like how it was before.
I liked the messages the movie gave. It's basically about not giving up on not just the spirit of the holiday but also not losing hope in general. Loved the animation style of Omi's flashback. That was a really bleak scene but it made it all the more real and believable.
I also loved the design of Krampus and his "helpers." They all looked really cool and creepy.
The Jack in the Box one was wild. I also really love the musical score as well. A nice touch on traditional Xmas and classical music but balanced out with some truly wonderfully sublime orchestral horror parts added. It reminded me of Trick r Treat, Aliens, Hellraiser and Drag Me to Hell. You can feel the strong elements of Christopher Young, James Horner and Elliot Goldenthal there.

To me, this movie feels like the younger sibling of Violent Night. They are both adjacent in many ways. They both absolutely revel in their references and homage to Christmas classics past. Violent Night mostly pulls from Die Hard, and Krampus I believe is akin to Gremlins. I believe they walk a thin line between loving homage and being straight up derivative, but movies like this really do take me back. From the practical creatures in Krampus to the bloody action of Violent Night, and all around mischievous black humor in both, they are just a ton of fun.

Sorry for the spams but one last thing to note: most reactors are kind of confused on the ending. Allow me to explain. Max, the person who made the wish, repented in the end. Because of this, Krampus allowed him ad his family to live but will be closely watched from now on. Which is why you saw those snow globes with those different families.
The reason why Omi's family was taken was because she or them for that matter, never apologized/repented for losing hope and faith that caused her family to be taken to the underworld. While he does indeed punish bad or misbehaving children, Krampus does gives second chances. In other words, its kind of like how they say if you repent in a religion such as Christianity, your sins will be forgiven. Kind of same thing here more or less. Hope that will clear up any confusions!

You two had me cracking up this reaction! Not the gumdrop buttons! I LOVE Krampus, it is such an underrated Xmas movie. I feel like its funny enough to watch year round, but I especially love watching it during Xmas time. It's a dark comedy-fantasy movie, more than a horror, it just has horror elements. Krampus is a real thing celebrated in Europe actually, people dress up as Krampus to scare all the kids. I assume Omi grew up during world war 2 most likely; and most survivors of war carry that trauma which was probably why she didn't speak about it for years. The animation during her story was really beautiful. It's def not meant to be taken seriously so I'm glad you two enjoyed it! and yes Steven the ending was that Krampus gave them a second chance but it always watching in case they ever forget, he will come...

So, the director of the film, Michael Dougherty (trick or treat, godzilla: king of the monsters) said the ending was a metaphor. They weren't actually trapped, but it was meant to show that krampus would be watching them (and all the other globes were other families he was watching). and he gave them the bell as a reminder.
I personally love this film. I've always been a fan of family horror, films like this, gremlins, something wicked this way comes, dark crystal, etc. the genre had been big in the 80's, but became a lost art. I had hoped this would kick start a new wave of such films, but sadly it didn't.
still, its amazing considering the film only had a $15m budget, what they were able to accomplish. the creature effects are phenomenal, and the animated sequence showing the past was awesome. BTW, that flying thing was meant to be a mutated version of the angel from the top of the tree.

I love how they ended the movie ambiguously. I came out of it thinking it was a “Krampus is always watchinnnnng” ending. But my friend came out of it thinking they were trapped in the workshop. Neither of us considered the other point of view. I like that it leaves it with the audience for interpretation. Makes for more fun discussion.

This was a great reaction to a weird ass movie. I like to think of the snow globe as a sort of path, a portal, for the Krampus to enter the world of whoever invoked him. That way I see the film having a happy ending, in the same vein as A Christmas Carol. That world has been reset and lessons learned, Christmas spirit regained. But then I'm just a sentimentalist and a lover of all things Christmas! Merry Christmas!

What a shame you only seem able to reference this film via other naff fare. I found this to be a highly inventive horror comedy with just the right level of both....

Good movie, and great reactions. 😂 HOWEVER...how in the holy hell has Steven not seen Labrinth?! You don't even have to watch it for the channel (although that might be fun), just watch it!!

Great movie! Stay away from all other Krampus movies. Funny as hell and horrifying at the same time. RIP Conchata Ferrell. ❤

Adam Scotts character was more humble in this one amd it was the right choice as there were few wacky characters in the film and Adam sort of soften the blow

I was in a theatre when the trailer for this came on. I was at the end of a row of friends, so there was a stranger on my other side. When the trailer ended we both said in unison:
Her: Why would anyone want to watch THAT?
Me: I HAVE to see that
We side-eyed and then gave an awkward ‘you do you’ shrug. I still love this movie.

While I love the movie I feel ending would have been way better if it had ended when he first got the bell instead of him chasing down krampus

There's a little easter egg at the end where they show the snow globes. There is a couple of houses next to Max's house (The tan ranch style house and that big red house) were the houses in prior krampus movies. The movies aren't exactly related to each other, but its pretty cool.
