I wish you could reshoot this one as it’s so frustrating not being able to see this watch in all its beauty due to it going out of focus all the time. Your other videos are wonderful it would be so good if you could redo this one so we get a better look!

If you were to make a picture dictionary this would be filed under elegance.
    That's just so insanely beautiful.

Oh my god this watch is gorgeous...just wow. Love that you review independent's as well, this is the stuff you don't get to see everyday. Thanks so much for sharing Steve.

I like to see depth on the movement side, but on the dial side, I like to see the dial as flush to the glass as possible and this timepiece has got that. This watch defines class.

Amazing watch and box. Thanks for showing it to us. You need to use a smaller aperture on the camera though, the depth of field is just too shallow - keeps going in and out of focus. But otherwise a cool video. John

I was wondering if you could do long recordings of awesome movements. I love the sound of ticking because it calms me down, but I also love getting lost in the movements. I think others would like this too.

I'm not sure but that might be a natural escapement, which is also used by Laurent Ferrier, in his Galet Micro-Rotor. Two escape wheels apply impulses to the balance in both directions.

There is only one big and important improvement could be made to this watch. It should be on MY wrist! What an improvement that would be, yes?

Possibly the prettiest movement ever, I think.

the nicest one of these was that one with the slate black/grey dial and red hands in platinum. whoever spec'd that was a genius
from a technical perspective double wheel escapements are designed to reduce sliding friction and also attempt to eliminate oil. Breguet tried it in 1800 with the eschapment natural but had problems in making the two wheels concentric. ggeorge daniels made the huge leap with the coaxial escapement which got around this by placing both wheels above each other.
im not 100% on this escapement but im p sure its silicone and the idea is the same.
a great place to see these and many more is at www.clockwatch.de/ under theory-escapements- detatched they have 3d models

It is NOT silicon. Kari Voutilainen, FP Journe, Philippe Dufour and Roger W Smith do not use silicon, unlike Laurent Ferrier.

Observatory is better, from the investors perspective. Discontinued, around 60 were made. It is obvious that the Vingt8 will continue to be produced for many years to come. Hundreds will be made. So even though the two watches are equally interesting when it comes to the movement and execution (you could argue which one is better - a highly limited observatory grade ''romantic'' movement or a modern movement with a free sprung balance and natural escapement), but I think the observatory has a higher potential when it comes to the resale price. You forgot to mention Beat Haldimann, if you don't know him, check him out. The nicest tourbillons in the world, IMHO. And don't even look at the H9, that was probably supposed to be a joke. The H1 is what matters. Definitely check it out, Haldimann is not as well known as Voutilainen or Dufour.

.never had a problem with a manual . sorry but the back is a dogs ear, there is no decoration or precious metal. at this level the front and the back should be competing to be the front. it looks cheap. and for what is being charged and for how little it would have cost its a shame

No decoration? Every single element of the movement is finished to the highest standards. If you want a gold movement, buy a Journe.
