LOL! This was a shell of a video to make ... 🚫 🗣🥴 We think that's a pretty normal high tide for the area. We just normally aren't out there with y'all Saltaholics when it's high tide. We try to schedule our exploring trips a couple of hours on either side of low tide so we have much more area to search. 👀👣 But we didn't have that option with our schedule & the weather forecasts. Some take hundreds or even thousands of years to reach a specific length. On shells like the quahog you can count the growth rings like a tree. Spiraled shells(univalves) depending on the species of course, can take just 4 years to reach adulthood. Hope this answers your question. God bless!

When I used to beach comb, when I'd come across a crab claw, I'd always smell them to make sure there wasn't any meat left in them. They can smell really bad if there's anything left in them. Wonder how old those extra large whelks are? Nice to see you both walking on the beach again!
Yep, I do that. 👃🦀🐚 Or sometimes you can see into the opening or feel that it is so light to make sure it's been cleaned out by nature already. I do not want to take a fresh one home! 🤢🫢
