  • Building a truck ramp to get a lawn tractor, motorcycle, ATV, or anything else into the bed of a pickup truck. This is a real easy way to build a nice, sturdy 4'x8' ramp that makes it easy to load almost anything.

      You can get a set of two steel folding ramps on amazon for about $70. They'd probably work better for your push mower, and they weigh about 20lbs apiece. I think this ramp would be good for something that is harder to control, like a motorcycle

    Hi.
    Nice job and presentation. I am going to use 2 x 10's along with the purchased metal pieces from Amazon--about $20. Last time I borrowed a friends similar units and they worked fine to load and unload a snowblower. Now I am making my own for the lawnmower and need to know how long they ramp should be--tailgate is 28 :" off the ground.
    Last time I used 6" pieces of 1 3s to drive into the ground at the end of the ramps to stop them from moving--I do like your tie down idea and will use that.
    Can you advise how you wound up with an 8' ramp? I am unsure of how sturdy 2 x 10s fir is.
    Any adivce?
    Thanks Again-I will paint mine after seeing yours!

    These are pretty cool, and they look good too. Have you considered building a raised platform for the inside of your truckbed with a "cubby" hole for the ramp so you can put your item on the platform, and slide the ramps in and out as needed?

    I like it - with reservations. I want something like this for my Ford Ranger but I see two potential snags:
    1. If you load something big like a lawn tractor it looks like it'd be awkward to find room to haul the ramp as well. My bed is only 7 ft long.
    2. How much weight can the tail gate support? Did you consider removing the tailgate and mounting your ramp on the truck bed?

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  9 років тому

      +Tin Man The ramps fit nicely into the bed with the tailgate up (hang over a couple feet). I use a tie strap to hold the ramps to one side of the bed. The tailgate on my F-250 has had 1000 lbs on it with no problems so far. I guess if you are worried about the tailgate limit then taking it off would be a good option. Thanks for watching

    • @derekhuber3392
      @derekhuber3392 6 років тому

      Average tailgate is rated for around 500 lbs. You are really better off going with a trailer if you are hauling the mower frequently. Also, arched ramps are much better for mowers with their low decks that like to hang.

    The side 2x4-s are 4 ft apart. In length of the ramp there are no 2x4-s under the plywood for the whole 8 ft. Load a tractor and it will fall through the plywood. Was this calculated by an engineer or just put together "by ear"

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  2 роки тому

      In total there are four 2x4’s under the ramp. I have loaded a lawn tractor and a 900 pound motorcycle plus the rider multiple times with no issues. This was calculated by an engineer using SYP for construction and had nothing to do with “ears”.

      J-Hook Productions The ramps on Amazon are not the same and will not accommodate most full size motorcycles that get loaded into a 4X4 truck. Thanks for watching.

    its cheaper and easier to just buy the ramps

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  3 роки тому

      These ramps are 8’ long. Even with the inflated price of lumber I would love for you to post a link with ramps this wide (4’) and this long (8’) that will support a full size motorcycle that are cheaper than building these.
      I’ll wait for your reply.

    weighs as much as a motorcycle

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  6 років тому

      If you have a motorcycle that weighs less than this ramp set up, there should be no problem just lifting the “mini bike” into the truck. Thanks for watching.

    I would seal the bottom as well to help prevent warping.

      You can do that. It wouldn’t hurt.
