the time that it took to repair something by a professional may seem quick and easy, but we should never forget the time and dedication they have invested for a long time to achieve that ‘quick’ ‘easy’ state.
Like being tasked to translate a document in a language you've never heard before, compared to somebody that is fluent in that language. The people that know the language, certainly make it look easy! You can sit there for hours trying to understand some of the weirdest strings of text you've ever seen pop out of google translate.
When you think of hours you have spent learning, making mistakes , learning from them, hours of rat holes jobs and still get them fixed and don after the hours a no fix and all the lessons learnt, years of practice and learning.... when you fix a device when you are grounded and strong in a short time.... just know you deserve it’s cause you really do deserve.... everything there is always a price to pay.... you just have to pay to get to that point mr Alex is now. My respect mr Alex , more knowledge... I won’t say more money... you know why.
I have been fixing laptops for over 20 years. The ram is always the first thing I check if it has no display. Plus it's the easiest thing to check. I've learned to always check the simplest things first before I tear the whole laptop apart.
Especially on HP Laptops. I bet the memory module would work on another laptop. I don't know exactly why that is, but I've came across a probook diagnosed with dead mobo, but when I unplugged the secondary ram stick, it booted, then I tried to reinstall the module just because and it worked again. I think it might be contaminated ram slot pins (corroded or something) or just a bios corruption.
Had a computer refuse to go past the post screen until I removed one of the memory modules. Still works, just need to get ddr2 so the less fortunate can still use it as it was fairly fast.
In your case, everything looks easy !!! But you are an expert, and thats why everything looks effortless !!!! Most repairs are pretty horrible to sort out. But with thousands of pounds of equipment, and a lot of knowledge and skill, it looks simple !!!!
None of what you do is with soldering and fault finding is easy to me, you are a true master of your trade. I am having major issues with my RAM at the moment, sometimes my quad channel works then I can only use triple channel, wish mine was just as easy.
I made my first capacitor repair today at work. Before I would have ordered a new board and replaced it, but now because of your lessons, I was able to save the customer $1200 and get their Nitrogen Analyzer back online.
I had faced the same problem with my laptop couple months ago .the funny thing is when i took it to a repair shop , he told me maybe it's an issue with the gpu .A week later , he affirmed it's a no fix . I took it to another repair shop , and after inspection he said the gpu is totally missed up, he said the guy who attempted to fix your laptop has used a lot of heat while trying to reflow the gpu . Weeks later , I brought a new motherboard , and when i installed the old ram , the same problem came back , than i realized that the ram was faulty .
Greetings. Why would an individual bother to ask such a ludicrous question? The repair appears easy because of how quickly you are able to diagnose and remedy the problem. This does not happen miraculously, but because of the hard work and dedication that you put in over the years. It is the desire of every technician to fix an impaired unit as quickly as possible. Why, because the quicker you are able to fix the unit, the quicker you are going to collect your fees and move on to the next unit?
Never ever thought that black screen would be caused by a faulty ram stick, now i believe after seeing your video, Thanks to Alex i am one more step towards professional.🌹❤🌹
Wanted to come and show our support. We always try to fix our customers non-working boards even if they say it's a lost cause. Then we don't charge a lot for the time and love seeing them smile!
At min 10:43 you can see the dedication of a man that who don't settle to weld, but demands perfection. That caps would not have come off anyway, but it was not parallel to the others. I too feel the itch to not stop at 'just as long as it works' (as long as there are no risks around the corner). BTW Good job !
@@eubyflask this might surprise you, but sometime that reason is redundancy. A lot of the time bypass capacitors are there in sequence of 2-3 on one line. The FCC has a lot of stipulations on circuitry, so manufacturers tend to over-engineer voltage lines to meet the demands of the world market.
Nice video, i had the same problem with my old laptop years ago. I thought on everything, bad harddrive, bad battery,….and than i disconnected one of the RAM sticks…And laptop is on. So i think thats a good idea for people who had similar problems, test the ram-sticks first. This will help you a lot. Thx for that video.
Even I did the same for a friend's laptop. He was about to throw away in garbage as it is a bit old laptop. I took it and changed the ram to test. It was working. 👍
Cleaning the ram with alcohol might have saved it from being replaced. Usually when the ram contacts and chips get clogged with dust and dirt, this happens. Usually this happens very often with desktop PCs which are placed on the ground or behind a desk and collect dust easily. Also ram modules do fail when there is a short on one of the chips or caps on the module itself.
hi Alex, I had the same problem some years ago with a laptop so I replaced the ram and it worked again. great video thanks I m learning a lot from your videos
Faulty ram does happen fairly often. I replaced the motherboard on my Alienware M11x R1 and had a simular problem with 1 ram stick. Moved it to another machine and it works fine there but it just wont boot up in my Alienware. Remove the older 4GB stick from the other machine and placed it in my M11x and it worked like a charm.

Wow that's amazing, I also want to fix board level repair soon when I can afford to buy some tool. As of now I love watching you're video man I learned a lot. Love from PH❤️🇵🇭
I wonder if it was caused by a power fluctuation since the stick of RAM and the capacitor blew? Or maybe the stick of RAM dying is what blew the capacitor? We'll never know :D Great video as always Alex! Keep doing the good work :)
Comparing something to be easy or not entirely depends on experience as you said, I am familiar with diagnostics of electrical equipment but it may take me a couple days to diagnose a fault with a computer motherboard but if you give me an engine I will rebuild it with my eyes closed and the same goes for automotive electrical systems. As you said how easy a repair is depends on your experience.
You are an amazing person. every time you had fixed something, you felt really happy as if it was your first time. That really made insist on learning to fix things. I hope I'll be good at that some day. A quedtion: why didn't you try to fix the bad ramstick?
I’ve repaired laptops and desktops where some require a ram stick in slot (A) at all times or it wouldn’t work. But it seems to be more common with desktops. Which is labeled as slot (1)
@@gblargg some people don’t know about the picky motherboards. They’ll see that the ram is good in slot (A). Then move that ram to slot (B) and assume the slot is bad because the computer won’t work. But they need to leave a stick of ram, that is known to be good, in (A) before using good ram in (B). But thankfully most laptop motherboards aren’t like that.
9:57 Honestly, I've been in similar situations. Luckily, the faulty component/module was easy to disconnect and replace. Those repairs only look easy. But that is because they are made by artist. Well done
How did you know the right value of the SMD capacitor you replaced?
Using the same size cap is sufficient for replacement.
The capacitance is usually in nano farads and voltage rating is 5v. You can’t really go wrong if you use the same size capacitor.
