- If your laptop is on and running but the screen is black or not working there is likely a simple fix for the problem. A black laptop screen is a common problem for laptops and I'll show you the easiest, most likely fixes along with more in-depth solutions.
In most cases, a black laptop screen is simply a software issue that can be fixed with a hard reset. If this doesn't fix it, the next step is disconnecting the battery and power cycling the laptop. Next, we'll disconnect the CMOS battery and power cycle the laptop. Finally, we'll check and reseat the RAM inside the laptop.

Just for anyone who hasn't had luck with these steps here's what happened with me: did all the steps with no success. Then I started taking out any hardware I had added previously. I added an extra 4 gb ram stick, and an ssd when I got the laptop last year. Took out the new ram and it works fine now. The new ram had gone bad so pulling that brought it back to life. It works, but I'm having a new problem: my screen goes blank for a few seconds and turns back on.
This problem fixed itself automatically after a few restarts.

@@Eastbaypisces it could be some kind of malware. It may take a few days after trying these steps, then try again. You could try recovery too.

@@TH3R3D0N3_what I did to get it off the black screen was disconnect the power completely I took out the battery waited 15 minutes power it back on and let it cycle through overnight you got to be patient and let it do its own thing. Just to get back to the F2 F12 options. Mind you I have a older laptop with the Easy Battery that pops right out

turns out if its still not working its a mobo issue tends to be the graphic chip most of the time, i brought it to Rebooted tech tbh they pretty good they replaced the mobo and now its working fine

Thanks man! I took out my RAM to see the specs so I can upgrade it and when I put it back the screen went black. The clean and reseat the RAM did the trick!

Very informative video, thanks for your insight. For those of you who have a non-removable internal battery there is a tiny hole at the back with a diagram of a battery. This is where the reset button is and acts the same way as unplugging the battery cable from the motherboard. Insert a pin and gently press the button. This worked for me and I was able to boot up the laptop. Hope this helps.

However, when I was counting to 15, I heard the laptop shutdown at 8 second count and so I closed the cover and reopened it and sure enough this time, the screen showed up. The first time I tried this and many times falling on my own before I caught your video, I was just holding down the power and waiting for it to shot down but at the same time I was talking with my spouse and I don't know how much time went by more than 15 seconds for sure, but I closed the cover because I saw the keyboard wasn't lit any more. @@nifty8202 There are two options, one for a complete clean windows reinstallation and the other just to install a new windows without erasing any of files. Non-native installed programs will be gone though.

Always be sure to completely update Windows and drivers with new laptops to prevent issues. Just because it is new doesn't mean it is updated.

Ohmigod! I was dismayed when the hard reset didn't work. Held the power button for 15 sec. The light on the keyboard went off then nothing. So I connected an hdmi cable to a monitor, pressed the power button again then got shocked I started seeing the display. I am so grateful. Thank you. ❤️
