      Yes you're right. That cap looks bad but it's testing good. I ended up changing the Mosfets again this morning along with that bad looking cap. Short was gone like before. I powered on the device and Mosfets went bad again. Laptop is going back to the customer unfixed unfortunately. .

      This guy is just learned everything diy. He doesn't know how to properly proceed with fixing motherboards. It begins with reading the schematics to understand how the device works. It doesn't have a charging issue, he already put a fully charged battery inside from a donor laptop and proceeded to remove the ic that is responsible for charging the laptop. Big time fail.

    Its irritating to me these companies are not forced to release their board diagrams. So many people want to just virtue signal about caring for the planet or more likely they are ignorant to the fact these boards end up polluting landfills only because we cannot fix them. If we had a way to read what does what on these boards the likely hood, they could be repaired goes up by at least 80%! Something here needs to change, and more people need to be onboard with the right to repair!

    Hi Alex, big fan. Why send it back with no fix? Why not give the customer the option to replace the board with a board you source on eBay? I usually can generally get any motherboard on eBay for between $75 -$150 with a warranty. I don't have your knowledge, patients or skill so that's generally how I handle repairs and then I sell the defective boards back on eBay stating exactly what issues I had with the board. I think it's a good option and I bet a lot of your customers would appreciate the option.

    • @Rodox2k10
      @Rodox2k10 3 роки тому +7

      ...because it never indicated that it was shorting? Fractured or not, it was still functional. That's the mindset you HAVE GOT TO follow if you attempted to fix a laptop and didn't have the same model to extract any components from. So let's assume you try to remove that cap anyway because you didn't like the way it looks. Great, now you gotta find out its working voltage and capacitance. With no schematics to go on about and no capacitance measuring device, good luck with that.

      Of course. $65 repair attempt fee for most laptops if no fix.

      @@NorthridgeFixExcellent. Many in the industry run with a no fix no pay incentive, but I'm not big on the idea. Appreciate your reply!

    I am sorry that you put in all of that time and had a no fix result. I have repaired video/audio electronics for over eighteen years in my own shop and I frequently have no fix results. In order to get some money for my efforts, I charge an up-front thirty five dollars troubleshooting fee. At least I earn thirty five dollars when I cant charge the client money for a no fix situation.

      That's a bad and somewhat selfish wish (though I understand where you're coming from) you're essentially wishing him and his family a lack of a work, business and general livelihood just so he can fulfil your curiosity.
