Highly recommend is an understatement! I've got the XR7 and I was able to paint the ceilings in my home in under 30 min. The outside of the home took about 3hrs. I watched a pro paint an entire apartment(all the same color floors and ceilings) in under 1 hr. The big thing you have to watch out for when painting outside is over spray getting on to your cars or neighbors cars or houses if you live close. Great vid.
I have the same machine. Work horse and I love it. Done a lot of spray and is very reliable. Had to rebuild it once. I know there are newer options and “better” options but I feel like this machine was made right and with long lasting parts. Time to spray is irrelevant because conditions and what’s being sprayed is different. I’m in Arizona and I’ve used this for interior but mainly exterior and have put heavy load dead summer. 115 degrees dead sun and she doesn’t disappoint. Never thin paint be a man.
I also use anti freeze after a clean. Same shit lower price and much easier when you’re using a larger container for the suction tube. I load the machine up to the gun. Keep everything nice and lubricated.
I stumbled across this video as I am tinkering with my old xr9... You are absolutely correct about using antifreeze - that is what "pump armor" is - except 4 times the price...
Every dang time I come to your channel I leave with so many other projects I need to get done! So many ideas now on what I need to paint....great video!
I just acquired one of these. It needs a couple things rebuilt on it but what’s good about this sprayer is it can be rebuilt. I have one of the newer X7’s and that one cannot be rebuilt. Once the pump goes bad you have to replace the entire unit. So I’m happy to have gotten the xr9, especially for free.
As I mentioned, I also have a tip for spraying oil base products. I'm not an expert as to what tip goes with what product (stain, latex, etc), but I'm sure Graco has some literature on it. There are a couple of good comments here from folks that are pros. But, to answer your question in a word ... YES... this will spray the crap out of stain. You'll like it.
graco is a great sprayer company. this particular line magnum pro commonly found at consumer grade outlets like home depot or lowes is just that consumer grade. for anyone actually considering painting for a living i recommend their professional line of sprayers more commonly found at companies like sherwin williams or dunn edwards. but to get the best price check professional grade tool companies in your area. here in las vegas we have places like fasteners inc.
You bet ! It is airless, so there is not a LOT of over spray... BUT there is SOME. You would have to cover anything that you don't want to get residual paint on. But, I DID seal a room off with a sheet of plastic, and didn't see any signs of over spray in the next room. It is better used in new construction when you don't have to worry about covering stuff up... but lots of painters use them inside for remodeling.
Depends on the type of stain, brand, oil or water based. Turn your pressure way low when using a thin material and adjust from there. Graco makes tips that fit Graco guns, although you can use an adapter on the spray line and use any brand gun you choose. Thing is fast isnt always better. If you spray stain for example, you may have to "tip it out" or brush behind the sprayer. Same with backrolling, in order to make the paint grip, you need to follow with a roller. I have painted for 25 years ;)
This seems unlikely when you consider the pressure and force at which an airless shoots material. A roller isn't going to even come close to matching that - except possibly when the sprayer is set at the lowest of settings.
As I said in the video, my house is stained wood. It stains like a dream ! I have stained it twice with the Graco. You won't believe how fast it goes on...
@@ramoncampos6998 Absolutely. My house is stained wood and I spray stain about every 5 years. It sprays oil or latex stain great. If you are spraying oil base, you'll need the tip they recommend for oil.
Can you put things like stain through a machine like this, such as staining a deck or the siding of a wood shed? If so, do you have to use a special stain? Thanks!
+adriana lima You have to put a container of paint thinner under the sprayer for it to draw from (just like it draws the paint). It won't be a 'power flush' (like with a water hose) but it runs through the hoses and it cleans the sprayer. I've used oil base stain for my house. No problem cleaning it out with thinner.
i will be using the Graco Project Painter Plus model, i know the x9pro is better, but do you have any reservations to choosing the plus instead of the x9 pro ? besides the price ! Thanx for your reply !
+adriana lima I don't know anything about the GPPP... so I can't comment. However, Graco makes a great product, so I don't think I would be worried about buying the least expensive one.
Sure... but it'll probably look like crap. It's not near as precise as a gun that is meant for autos. You can get a decent auto painting gun at Harbor Freight for 20-30 bucks. You'll need a compressor, though.
HI any body! I Ihave Graco Magnum XR9 used Total about 8 hours , i used last time in october 2013, it works very good , after clearned i stored , but now i need to use it just work one to two minutes then stop, and ater 15 - 20 minutes it work againt but the same thing ,i check it up ,the fuse, power cord it still ok! not thing wrong.but look like no power. some one talk with me that may be the paint hit in the motor .need to replace the electric motor brush , but i can not find any name of that part in the graco magnum part webside , so i need have if any body known the ways how to the fix this problem please recommand show me how to fix it ! THANK YOU SO MUCH !
THIS MAY HELP....... PRIME YOUR ENTIRE SYSTEM WITH MINERAL SPIRITS. Sounds like you may have a gunked up issue that causes the system to slow down or freeze up. THEN flush the system out with a water hose.

So true. And it works just as well I’m sure.

Yes. You can change the tip size and adjust the spray pressure.

BTW...there are many tip sizes to choose from, each for a different situation / material.
When I first started the video I thought I was being talked to by a Graco sprayer.
You're a good ventriloquist!

I don't think Krako likes STAIN....BUT if you do, make sure to run mineral spirits through the primer when done
Thanks for the info. I believe this can be rented at a Home Depot rental center.
Gday Mate , you say you use anit freez .. just regular stuff ?
+ragandoil
Yes, if I remember right, the manual said it was an alternative to their (expensive) stuff
how do i flush the system, if i am using a oil based paint, because water wont work efffectively..?

8:08 Wrong, you actually need to start from the top to solve your issue. You also need to dress the part.
Are these sprayers suitable for the interior of a house?
Good morning, I repair those engines, whenever you like ... I can receive by parcel. I am in Mexico
Thanks for the offer.
So far, it is working good.
