They were extra careful with the naboo starfighter, it was locked behind 2 very obscure passwords, HALIFAX? and !YNGWIE!, with no indication that those passwords were correct.
The Y-Wing dialogue always cracked me up on Sullust. “Wow, these things can take a beating!” “Ha! Didn’t even scratch me!” Luke says as his ship is spinning downward to his death
This game had such a huge impact on my life as a kid which later became a love of aviation. I credit the reason I'm a pilot today in large part to this game, and getting a low score nearly every level because I just wanted to fly around 😅.
It takes a lot of practice and memorizing levels and figuring out attack runs etc defintelty not something that is just going to "happen" Even getting the gold on tatooine is tricky. Got to find soldiers out in the desert to get your kill count up etc while keeping time limit. There also an upgrade hidden in every level that are pretty much must haves to get golds on all
Yep, these games were amazing. Battle for Naboo was great as well. What hurts the most is that there was a Rogue Squadrons compilation made for the Wii by Factor 5 and Lucasarts just decided not to release it.
Not sure if people talk about that aspect of the game but, considering it's on the Nintendo 64: 1) The sound quality and voices quality is impressive (compression isn't too high) 2) The music quality is almost CD-quality (there is compression of course but truly, it's some of the best music quality on the system with Ocarina of Time and Turok 2) 3) Actual graphical details, AND solid / consistent performance (in general, outside of some drops here and there) A very impressive title for the system.
1. It helps that most of the dialogue is radio chatter between pilots. Any compression just makes it sound MORE like communications over their ships' radios. 2. There are some MIDI instrumentals in there that sound a little "off" if you're super-used to the genuine Star Wars/John Williams score, but for the N64 it's still impressive.
I remember it was tough until I realized that hitting enemies like AT-AT walkers or big transport ships with your lasers brought your accuracy up so I just unloaded a bunch of shots at those.
It took me forever to get all golds, but I’ll never forget the feeling of accomplishment! This game is a treasure from my childhood, wish we got a remake!
I did all golds and it was painful but rewarding. I heard the gamecube one might be even harder and I don't know if I have the patience for it anymore. I remember the mission in cloud city and the volcano one with the turrets being an absolute pain in the ass.
Loved this game as a kid. Smart move switching to the naboo starfighter for the fuel tank mission. I would've also accepted the tie intercepter. When I saw that the Death Star trench run was in here, I was happy. Then that changed to disappointment when it wasn't the actual mission.
@@Jaanuhthn I agree. There were times that the A Wings side mounted blasters would clip the wrong gas tanks and I get yelled at by Kasan. I switched to the other two and had no issue since.

If only I knew that it would get even worse in later missions when not only ATATs have *you* as target instead of buildings *but also* you have pesky fighters too storming you from all directions while defenselessly looping around the beast
I remember unlocking and beating everything in this game. The secret millennium falcon is so awesome. IIRC you held up and pressed left yellow arrow, but I cannot remember which vehicle you had to be on.
You typed in Farmboy and unlocked Millennium Falcon. With Millennium Falcon selected, if you typed in TIEDUP, you'd unlock TIE interceptor which was then docked behind the MF.

Oh how I wish we could get a remake of Rogue Squadron, imagine it with the visual acuity of 2015s Battlefront but Ace Combats level scope. All these levels remade but hugely expanded upon like for instance, instead of just the Death Star Trench run have a full death star battle take place that culminates in the trench run. Add more starships to it just for funsies like the Delta 7, the Jedi Interceptor, The Slave 1 and Razor Crest. Even add skins for Current ships like making the X-Wing look like Poe Cameron's Black X-Wing or make the B-Wing look like the modern remake by EC Henry. Still have the game and original paper I made notes on. Just no system. Wish I had the other game like c&c. I have on pc but don’t work right like don’t fit the screen,, even when I try to adjust.
"Luke I think we've got a problem...is that my imagination or are those- Imperial Probe Droids?! Dead Ahead! They're attacking the homestead!" At least that's what I hear. Could be wrong but it fits the situation with them actually attacking the houses. That last line was always gargled.

One of my favorite Star Wars & N64 games. I was only able to get all gold medals once. For some reason, IDK if it was glitched, I could only find enough enemies to kill for gold on Prisons of Kessel the one time. Either that or the game just wouldn't register that I killed enough. Also, this game's V-Wing was always the one I loved the most. Though I don't hate the Republic's during the Clone Wars. This game, as well as Rogue Leader & yes I suppose even Rebel Strike, need to get an HD port because Squadrons is terrible & doesn't scratch the Star Wars aerial combat game itch.
The balance of every fighter you could choose was so well done. Each had it's strengths and weaknesses and the levels adjusted to them accordingly. Well, except the Naboo Fighter. I loved that thing but damn it was too strong. Shields and lasers as strong as the x wing. Basically as fast as the A-wing, Held more missiles. I wouldn't say you were cheating when you used it, but it wasnt fair to earn gold with it IMO.
This game deserves a remake, so much memories
The problem is, the current handling of Star Wars would intentionally botch a remake... 😒
This game is gold!
No it doesn't. They'll have Luke Skywalker go through hormone therapy.
Actually what sucks is it will never be remastered or remade likely because of it conflicting with the Disney Canon.
...I mean they did...but it didn't work out...Yeah.
so cool how the naboo starfighter was featured in this game months before the film that unveiled it even came out!

the n64 had some timeless classics on it, this is might be the crown jewel of those games. best trench run level for star wars in gaming.
Couldn't agree more
Best trench run was from star wars x-wing, much more like the movie
I was in 5th grade when this came out, could only play it at a friends house who had the N64 and then eventually the Dreamcast
