      Same! I grew up on a 70's standup Baldwin (it even had a roll player in it). Even when tuned, it still has that warm yet somehow soft twangy sound. Its unique and nostalgic. I don't like high end pianos because they sound "muffled" to me. No character IMO.

      The first one is out of tune. I have a used console piano that cost $200, I tune it myself and when it has been recently tuned sounds amazing. This video does not show a fair comparison.

      I learned on a 50 year old piano that my dad got for free. Played it from when I was 13 and started taking lessons to 16, then my dad got me a used Steinway for $8,000. I cried when I saw it. I left drinks and got water rings on the other piano, never happened with the Steinway lol

    Fun fact: the more money you spend on the piano the better it sounds because you improve the acoustics. The keys can echo more dynamically in your bank account because there is less money to absorb the sound.

    That first piano looked beautiful, like it had stories to tell 😄 as someone who can only play a very tiny bit of piano I’d love one like that, but for wonderful pianists a more expensive piano would of course be amazing. Love the vault room of pianos too, how fancy they look! 🎹

    • @cscbandboosters
      @cscbandboosters 2 роки тому +6

      Yes - reason being that it was not in tune. You were hearing the "chorus" effect of unison strings not perfectly in tune with each other. And in the old west saloons the pianos were certainly out of tune! To test the Baldwin fairly it should have been perfectly in tune, unless that is not possible for some reason.

    I think the most expensive piano, mechanically, is still the same as a normal Steinway Concert D. The high price is due to the custom artwork on the case. It may have some more exotic wood in the soundboard than normal which may boost the price, but if so, I was unaware that Steinway had special wood they used in premier/limited edition pianos.

      You only can compair pianos if they are tuned and intonated by the same person. The Baldwin is just miserably tuned, without saying that it ever will sound like the Altenburg. I like the Altenburg, not this rich as a Bechstein or Steinway, but to pay for this difference 50 times as much or even more ?

      The Baldwin was actually tuned as good as is possible, it wasn't too badly in tune, but pianos as old cheap and used as this is can't be perfectly tuned to begin with. But a lot of what you are thinking is an out of tune piano is tinniness. The piano is shot and no amount of tuning can help it.

      The big jump happens between the wood frame and the steel frame.
      I grew up with a cheap spinet and only played when my mother made me do it. Then a few decades later my mother bought a Steinway and as soon as I touched it, I thought, if I'd had this growing up, I would have played voluntarily and become a pianist! I used to visit just to play the Steinway.
      In the video, the last piano was the most expensive but I don't think there were any concert grands in the list. The sound quality is not exactly proportional to price.

      That was a very, very misleading information (and I'm pretty sure you know that). You can't buy half of Venezuela for that. Not even somewhere close to that amount of land. You could certainly buy a pretty big farm for that value, but the relative value of one currency if compared to the dollar is nothing more than "relative". Considering Venezuela's super devalued currency, you would face three problems: 1. Nobody would sell any property in Venezuelan currency; 2. Converting from dollar to bolivar wouldn't make you have more purchase power or anything (to be honest, you would be left with - literally - tons of useless pieces of paper), unless you want to buy some basic items (like food), whose prices are fixed (but you would have huge problems to find people selling them at a fixed price, let alone selling them in large quantities); 3. The price you would pay would consider the state of the local economy, but you would pretty much pay not too much less than what you would pay for land in other countries in Latin America.

    I actually quite liked the Baldwin in the beginning..
    The 2000 dollar baby grand held up well against the bechstein and Steinway they were all comparable but there was a significant jump with the model D. The model D was clearly better. But the fact a 2000$ baby can sound comparable to 100k Steinway is pretty eye opening.
