The market changed a lot in the past years. Oneplus has lost a fair amount of its customer base as they abandoned OxygenOs. For the amount of money just buy a pixel, a galaxy or an iphone. The old user base is now looking more to what Nothing is doing and hope they give them back what they lost with oneplus.
Funnily enough, Nothing was created by the same guy who made OnePlus so I doubt he cares. On to the next idea, I suppose. Pretty genius tbh
Disagree. Why spend the extra money for a Samsung or Pixel when you can get a phone that rivals them on every level. Don't start with the camera or wireless charging argument. Many reviewers give the cameras a satisfactory grade for the average user. Wireless charging is not that great of a selling point when the OnePlus devices charge at double the speed of the average phone. Oh I forgot! IP RATING!!! I've had smartphones since inception. OnePlus is digging it's own grave by ditching original OxygenOS. Updates they push are buggy af and late too. How they treated their most popular 7 series phones speaks volumes..
The problem with OnePlus devices is they arent differentiated enough from Samsung devices. If they had kept the form factor of the 7 pro and just updated it I would still be a buyer of their phones
Yes I remember when they removed the pop up camera I was shocked and low-key upset and I never even owned the phone. I just thought it was so cool then it's gone.
They are ....in price. One plus has always been about flagship specs for cheaper price with cutbacks like wireless charging, ip ratings, cameras etc
@@dante19890 now they make those same cutbacks, but with an inflated price tag and bloated Oppo ColorOS software.
@@User-cb4jm every smartphone is more expensive now cuz of inflation but the price difference is still there
@@User-cb4jm Correct. And all of the other problems with OnePlus (like the botched Oxygen OS 11 and 12 updates, the latter of which became Color OS in all but name from there on out), and I think they've definitely settled.
One thing worth mentioning is that the phone starts 850€ here in Europe, quite a lot over the $700 US price. At 700 is a good option, at 850 no chance.

I really liked this video. The history lesson was interesting and well explained and flowed smoothly into the second half of the video. Great job from everybody involved, the extra context really helps to understand OnePlus current situation.
Also a OnePlus fan here. My first one was the 3 and the last one the 6. It boggles my mind when I see what's been happening to OnePlus lately. Absolute lack of direction and vision. Sad.
I used a OnePlus 7T for 3 years, and it was the first mobile phone I ever used for that long without upgrading. It wasn't IP68 and didn't have wireless charging. I didn't need those features and still don't. What it did have was long battery life, fast charging, and excellent performance. Thats all I cared about then and all I care about now. So who is the OP11 for? ME! I'm so glad OP is back.
Side rant: Wireless charging is a slow and useless gimmick to get you to waste more money on more accessories. It only takes an extra second to plug your phone in. Plugged in, OP11 can go zero to full in under 30min. That's amazing! Even if it had wireless charging I wouldn't use it. So glad they saved me that money.
The problem is that the Android skin they used was really good until Oxygen OS 11, then Oxygen OS 12 basically ended Oxygen OS and replaced it with Color OS.
@@cameronbosch1213 Can I ask what you don't like about it? I hear this complaint a lot but mostly just very minor gripes and mostly about how it looks.
I did have a few really minor issues with 12 but 13 is great. It preforms so fast and smooth, has lots of customizability, and I love the new haptics on the 11 too, just feels so good to use. Not every phone is for everyone but this is definitely for me. It has all the features I want and none that I don't. I almost bought a pixel and am glad I didn't.
@@chtm It doesn't feel like what made OnePlus special. OnePlus had been known for a near stock Android experience with (relatively) timely updates. Now that isn't really the case, with Samsung leading the charge now in terms of frequency and amount, especially among lower end phones.
I also don't like how different Oxygen OS has been since 10, which was imo the best.
@@cameronbosch1213 Thats just not accurate at all. Oneplus is WAY closer to stock Android than Samsung is. Its not even close. And they were the first third-party manufacturer to roll out Android 13, a full month before Samsung did. So they are still leading the pack in that regard too.
I was a long time One Plus user. I started with like 1+4 or 1+5. Then 6T and was going to upgrade to 10. The release sale for the 1+10 pro ended almost a full day before the end date discussed in the emails. I realized that the website folks did their time in their server timezone and the email was in US time. If you can't handle date and time properly, I am going to skip on your phone. My wife and I have since switched to Pixel 6 Pro and never looked back.
What made OnePlus successful was that it was a nerd's favorite phone(and we recommended it to friends). It didn't have any bloatware. It didn't have any apple like locking features. It had the mute slider. It had fast charging before most. It had USB-C before most. It had a fast OS. But now, after trying a friend's 10, I think it is just another phone.
I am rooting for the nothing phone.
I guess that when Oneplus settled, there's Nothing left.
Ahah good one😂
I think the OnePlus 11 is a very smart return of an old Champion.
By far the worst thing OnePlus has done is merging Oppo's OS. The main reason why I'll never buy a phone from them again. They really tried to fix something that wasn't broken
The image of OnePlus as the "plucky underdog enthusiast brand" always bothered me. You can't be a division of Oppo and be an underdog- you just can't. They were always just Oppo's Western-targeted brand.
I just saw the review of this phone from Carl Pei from Nothing… Really interesting perspective !

The original Oxygen OS was like fresh air for fans... Which is no more the case with colour OS. Oneplus is bit listening to the fans. Just bring back Oxygen OS
In France, at the beginning of OnePlus brand, their phones were mainly bought by tech-friendly people. Nowadays they turned to PIxel phones. The reasons: a clean OS, a cheaper price, best-in-class photos... And now that Oppo / OnePlus are leaving EU, I'm pretty sure they are already one foot in their grave.
Apple IPhone 14 Pro max takes 2.5 hrs with a smaller battery to full charge wirelessly and 1.8 hrs to charge on a cable.
Compared to this OnePlus 11 charges under 30 min for a bigger battery. When you consider that, you exactly know why OnePlus removed wireless charging from OnePlus 11 phone ? However lady still thinks its somehow a worst thing about OnePlus 11 that it doesn't have time wasting 2.5 hr wireless charging feature!
In India, Pixel 7 has only 128GB variant which is pretty low these days and S23 has a smaller screen n battery. So, OP 11 completely makes sense by sitting in the middle though a IP68 rating and improvements in front camera would have been better.
It's genuinely a good phone for its price.
I literally never see anyone in the US with this phones!
Always been curious to see these phones in person
I saw one person with the 6T. And I saw no reason to buy it because it felt too similar to my Samsung at the time, but worse.
I remember that the 7t had the main sensor ultra wide and telephoto and was sad when they went away from that formula for the 8 series and partially the 9. Glad to finally see a return to form with the 11.
Return to form? Please, a return to form would have a cleaner Android skin than Color OS.
@@cameronbosch1213 I get ya. Of course it's not the OxygenOS of a few years ago with a minimal design. That is my one knock for this phone. Everything else feels really solid for the price
My last OnePlus phone was the 7pro, now I'm on the pixel 5 and have stuck with it. It's something about the size, software and the symmetry for me.

If your brain is the size of a peanut, yeah sure
No matter what, I ain't buying OnePlus until they bring back the OG OxygenOS. That was one of their main USP(s).
Let's not suggest OnePlus remove the zoom lens. Let's not even entertain that idea. Every phone should honestly have the big three. That way everyone's happy. I don't use the uw as much as the telephoto but that doesn't mean I want it gone.
What do you guys think of the Oppo-fication of OxygenOS? I personally think it's becoming a cheap iOS knockoff!
It seems to me that the notification slider is smaller in size than it used to be
I mean wireless charging and ip68 certification arent as important as a bigger better screen, faster charging and larger battery, or the far better processor over the Pixel. I wouldn't rank them equally but really the consumer needs to decide in the end. But Verge is right, that in the US carrier sales dictate smartphone success here. I think the OP11 is priced fairly overall, especially with trade in offers.
Exactly. I currently have a Samsung Fold 3 and have had the S22 Ultra. Great phones. For the price, the OnePlus is equal in all aspects to phones that cost way more.
@@carlbrenda6518 yup and for folks upgrading from older devices it's good to have several choices now. In the end OnePlus has made a competitive product, just boils down to user preferences at this point
I couldn't care less about needing wireless plus you still need a wired stand. Manually plugging in 1-2x a day has got to be the most trivial task like breathing air. I think it's just marketing hyping up wireless but it's also slower.
I don't care about carrier support. I'd rather have no phone that upgrade, given how fast smartphones become e-waste these days, and my phone can't even last 3 hours and is less than a year old...
OxygenOs was for me the reason to buy my Oneplus 6 and i still love it but since that is gone, i would probally buy a pixel next time.

I found it on sale at Best Buy $499. At that price, you’re getting a flagship device that is nearly half the price of Samsung. Nothing comes that good of a value.
Previous One Plus phones had green screening problem, has it been resolved?
I was a huge fan of OnePlus, during the Carl era, but now that they've gone all ColorOS, I'm feeling grey. Still the OnePlus 7/7T Pro will always hold a special place in my heart along with HTC's One M7.
The first mistake was skipping the OnePlus 9T for the anticipated Oppo merger. This led to buying my first Galaxy device which was the S22 Ultra. Never going back.
They have settled now. We should move forward also

Exactly but I had the 6t and the fast charging. Then moved and sprint service sucked there so I dumped it because it didn’t work with Verizon
What exactly is wrong with a generic phone? I can't tell the difference. All I know is we want stock UI without bloatware with good specs. Doesnt OP11 offer that?
Yep i changed from 6t this month only instead of going OnePlus 11 i went for iqoo11 well not a very good phone in term of software and UI but it's powerful device which is all i need
The last unique phones they made were the 7 Pro & 7T Pro. The 8 Pro was good, but after that they fell off HARD. I mean, they went from having only the OG Nord phone fail JerryRigEverything's bend test (which most phones do survive) to both of the 10 devices (the 10 Pro & 10T) cracking in half when most other phones stay in one piece and remain functional.
The fact that they had unlocked bootloaders was good until you realize that there are Pixel 5a phones for sale under $300 with the same unlocked bootloader and not too much worse specs that don't have OS issues out of the box.
I had a couple OnePlus phones and my last was a One Plus 7T Pro McLaren Edition. I will never buy a OnePlus phone after that. The phone was bricked after an update and was literally never fixed. I checked months after the update to see if it was fixed, and it wasn't. Moreover, I couldn't even trade it into OnePlus because my unique limited edition wasn't recognized as eligible for a trade-in. The irresponsibility with regard to their customer care means I will never buy a OnePlus again.
I said the same thing with buggy 7T at EOL but see there's lot of complaints on the other 3 giant phone brands with bugs or being pricier. I'm back eyeing the 11 giving you the best specs for your money. I still have a grudge but at the same time this phone seems to provide the most value.
@@rogerh2694 Is this a joke? You're literally willing to give a company who lied to people MORE money. Great consumer you're being... 🙄
I've been using OP phones on and off for years. Currently using an OP8+. And I gt say, the OS is terrible, and I feel like every major update makes it worse. There's so much bloat, and yet features that I've been using for months will vanish (certain accessibility and convenience features), or break (e.g., clock display being covered up by notifications), or perhaps get hidden behind menus. The app drawer is obnoxious to use. I still.enjoy using my phone, but after they stop supporting updates (or I break it) I'm probably going to give pixel another chance, or maybe join the masses over at Samsung (my wife loves her s22+)
I have the OnePlus 8 pro and I am shocked how many new features have the updates brought to the phone. The photo editor, the windows mode, the lateral menu in the android 13. I really enjoy using the phone now. It is like a new phone and I wouldn't want to change it if not the battery, which is old and not keeping up. I even noticed that the cameras became better. They have better stabilization now than before, and also the cameras started to work better in apps like Instagram and telegram. The phone overall works so smooth now and I have no bugs at all.
Can you disable whatever bloatware or is it part of the UI kind of situation? I don't see why you can't just customize phone to your liking and all is good??
@@rogerh2694 The whole OS just feels laggy, like Touch Wiz on old Samsung phones, but somehow worse.
@@cameronbosch1213 I have the 7T and no lag. Which phone you talking about? I havent had a laggy phone since the old days of Galaxy. Unless you've got an old one etc
What warp charging makes a huge impact and that alert slider is essential.
The only One Plus devices that I've used are the One Plus One and the 8T. The price aspect of them was the compelling part of the phones. I've used the Pixel 1 XL, 2XL, 3a, 5a, 6a, and now the 7. The pixel devices have been just better devices across the board in my opinion. The Pixel 6a was an AMAZING device and I got it for $270 new. Only reason I got the the 7 is because it was free if I traded in my 6a, which ended up being a +$300 come up. One Plus in my opinion lost their dazzle.
The OnePlus 11 is a great phone overall.
The price cut was a good decision.
However, the lack of the extras that you mentioned is something to consider for this premium price.
Wireless charging is only a very minor convenience imo plus you need a stand that takes up desk space. Would rather have wired fast charge that can save your day when in a hurry. As for IP68, never in my life have I need to dunk it in water. Just my 2 cents.

I did like the One Plus 8 5G that I had a couple years back, 'until' One Plus effectively destroyed it with its Android 10 to Android 11 update, and my bluetooth stopped working with my vehicle. I warranty exchanged (3x) through T-Mobile, and each one broke with the update. Attempting to get this fixed through One Plus took many months, and 3 RMA's ... which did nothing. Eventually I gave up on One Plus. In addition, the update with Color OS was awful. Fortunately, T-Mobile offered a good discount on S21 exchange, and I haven't looked back. I did/do prefer the more 'stock' Android feel of One Plus / Moto devices over Samsung's UI ... but an unreliable device from an unreliable company is no way to operate.

Perhaps, I am one of their target customers. I'm on the fence about this phone because I don't need all of the latest features to be happy and I'm not sure I would pay this much to have them. In the past I have bought Motorola phones (esp the Power series) and am less than impressed with their latest because of poor audio quality.
Left OnePlus after being with them since 2016... The bugs were just awful and broke my OnePlus 7 pro

The reviewer nailed it. Carriers make or break a phone in the U.S. I've wanted to buy a Sony phone for many years, but it was always unfeasible. I could spend full price buying it myself or I could take advantage of free financing and insane deals (like giving you $800 trade-in for a phone worth a fraction of that). It was a no-brainer.
Used to like OnePlus but now, without wireless charging, IP6x, SD card, just hard to be a daily main phone.
I'm still rocking my OnePlus 7 Pro.
I still have my OnePlus 9 pro and I love it and I’ll be keeping it till it dies ❤
