You're right about the mahalo, Andy. But it drives me nuts when people think they can make any kind of bone-headed driving maneuver as long as they throw you the "shaka."
lol This use to piss off everyone I knew that came from the mainland. I had to tell them to chill one time cause as soon as the car in front drove away we saw the passing car and it was my friends family. They stopped and said hi too!
Mahalo nui loa Andy. I neva know da Hawaiian Triangles symbolizes da tree main elements of nature: Land, Sea, and Sky. And wen you see tree triangles by themselves dey represent da life facets of Mind, Body, and Spirit.
I get one moa. I call it the Nicemanalo effect. When driving through Waimanalo, I've noticed for a few years now, how, in wanting to be nice, and let people go (merge onto the highway), people disobey traffic rules and flag everybody this way and that. You know, it's a nice gesture, but traffic rules were generally made for good reasons, besides creating "order" they actually (many times) make sense. Like if you're on a highway and the speed limit is 45 and someone has to merge onto the highway from a side street, they have to wait until there is a clearing and step on the gas, or, like some people, wait until there are no more cars in sight for a hundred miles. In any event, this rule is so that highways can flow, because the repercussions go all the way back and mess up traffic. Know what I mean? Waimanalo could be an exception, however, because of the snaking of traffic at a snails pace all through it and the side street guys gotta get out. Yet it seems contagious and sometimes guys be just charging um, coming out any kine time even tho get plenty space behind me for wait and go liddat! Anyways, fun post Andy. Ho, don't get me started on drivers in HI.
Sometimes ova hea mainland, turning left when traffic stay coming? U stay middo of da intasection and turn left on red? U going get one ticket wikiwiki! Da front wheels gotta be ova da odda side when da light turns red.
Rule 1: be kind One time I was by UH and saw one car go by, Samoan driver and one nadda' Samoan sitting on the engine holding something together, it was classic! It was on that little windy road that goes by the dorms.
Hello Andy I’m watching your show here is the sunny part of California, Long Beach- first time I drove a car in Hawaii I was so surprised on how people are so nice and they do let you in a traffic , can wait to visit back 😁👍🏽
I'd really love to have one of the old like 1970s drivers handbooks they had a cute little poem in the front called something like "Only A Wheel" and it was about the steering wheel telling the new driver they can take them all over but they have to be careful etc.
My nephew was a new driver. When he got to my house in Waianae, he was visibly shaken. "Aunty, people stop their cars to have a conversation in the middle of the road! And people make left turns from the right lane!!" And we can always tell a Waianae Driver by the way he/she parks, lol.
I'm a professional driver. I drive a small bus in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ever since we got these new blinking yellow caution turn lights, nobody goes out into the middle of the intersection and they stay back until the light turns red and then they go and nobody else can go after them. It infuriates me how people lack being Akamai.
Andy...these past 2 Daily Pidgins "Unspoken Rules of the Road" and "Stuff that make people from Hawai'i mad" should be required viewing for anybody wanting to move or visit...but also a good refresher for some local folks too. Good stuff, sir!
During rush hour at red lights I dont like it when ppl wait until the car in front of them starts moving to put in the gear and such. Like, you see that the light turned green. Get ready. Dont wait on the guy before you to move first. Guys, please stay focused when on the road. Not only is it respectful it is also for the safety of everyone.
Here in California, the shoulder-to-shoulder cars are called a "rolling roadblock." But we got roads six lanes wide sometimes, so we can usually get around it. I think your motorcycle experience has made you passionate about spotting bad driving habits. All the best, brah!
Sometimes people get the order wrong. First they would cut you off, signal after then throw the mahalo shaka. That boils my blood. If you signal first, I'll have no problem letting you in no matter how bad the traffic is.
So funny -- and so so true!! But you left out one situation -- merging on to the highway. It would drive me crazy that people didn't move to the left to let people merge in. Dozens of cars stopped and waiting on the ramps...
Like always Bradah Andy, You always crack me up with your facial expressions...you nevah fail..But even in Las Vegas they do this..I am the type that likes to go fast...but I am very observant, my eyes always on the mirrors, always careful, can't stand the people you were describing...ha ha ha..
like da show polo shirt, but why da UA-cam button so big?! sounds like you had some haoles driving in front of you yesterday so you had to blow off some steam?! Made me laugh because here in the SF Bay Area this is basically an every day thing where people have no idea about common courtesy on the road.
+Steffen Franz I shirt I"m wearing was designed for me to wear on the show and Iʻm thinking about making the button on my shirt "clickable" just because I think that would be funny. : )

Aloha Andy, do you still sell the "No Quote me, I might be wrong" shirt? Couldn't find it on your apparel site.

Sometimes ova hea mainland, turning left when traffic stay coming? U stay middo of da intasection and turn left on red? U going get one ticket wikiwiki! Da front wheels gotta be ova da odda side when da light turns red.
Alternating cars... So easy yet so hard for mainland traffic.
Rule 1: be kind

The left turn tho
I learn things about Hawaii from Island 98.5 so if I'm wrong blame Kreyz and the crew lol

That every other car merging thing... we call that da zippah! LOL Nobody here in LA understands that though, sadly. :(
One of my favorite parts of your videos is that great big warm smile at the end. I would love to see a smile at the beginning as well. Love you Andy!
+hawaiibabylove Okay, Iʻll try. My mind is sort of occupied but what Iʻm trying to remember in the begging so...
