- Death Cab for Cutie - This Temporary Life
The morning sun's about to break,
I'm looking in as you create someone.
You lift your head and brush your teeth,
and make your bed as if you won't sleep again,
You fix your hair and tie your shoes,
and tuck your shirt and now you feel new.
The glass is full, the glass is broke,
and every day dissolves and there's no hope
of ever leaving this temporary life.
You may ask yourself "is there anyone so alone?"
but there's no beep before the dial-tone
when you pick it up to see who called
if there is it's probably your mom
But, oh, the rising sun brings little cheer
to this city with the stolen name
and you're wondering whose bright idea
it was to pack your things and leave your friends
and move down here.
It blows my mind that this didn't end up on an album because it's a truly incredible song. Really beautiful song.
Was part of a compilation album... "future soundtrack for America"... excellent album
Top 10 Death Cab songs for sure. This and their version of Underwater. Gotta love their obscure deep cuts.
I'm so happy everyone is enjoying this amazing song!
Today I heard Death Cab's version of "Christmas (Baby please come home)" in a Starbucks here in Argentina and was very very happy!
Ideal para esos días grises o de lluvia ..amo esta banda mucho ..el disco transatlanticism es fabuloso ...enjoy this song with a coffee !!!!
...And you're wondering who's bright idea
It was to pack your things and leave your friends and move down here.
True. :(
This played as I arrived on campus to move in for my freshman year. I just about broke down and cried right there.
Never heard this before, I thought I had all their rarities and covers and stuff. But holy fuck god this is amazing.
God damn death cab's got to be way more popular than they are.... Everybody loves them at some point or the other ,they are really a gem of music and gibbard is at the pinnacle of songwriting
Favorite Death Cab song, for sure.
Me too
Love your playlist! Can't believe you even have Woozyhelmet on here and Silver scooter!
The compilation CD with this song on it has been stuck in my truck’s CD player for years.
No way! I changed my car’s stereo a few years ago and forgot that the transatlanticism cd was in it so now it’s stuck there, in my old stereo.
Can someone please tell me why Ben won't play this live or even acknowledge the song?
this song for some reason , . . . fits with every single thing that has ever made me sad .
I love death Cub for cutie they make great songs
Why am I just now hearing about so many amazing, underrated Death Cab songs?
U could literally start with "something about airplanes" through the latest album and not skip 1 track....
A beautiful, but ever so sad song.
I’ve been listening to death cab for almost 20 years and this is the first time I listen to this song… thanks to “the music narrative” for showing me this. (Although I insist that he shouldn’t had left army corps of architects out of his “death cab essential cuts”
A brilliant sober version of Why You'd Want to Live Here.
nice upload thx
It really bums me out that this song isn't on spotify or a proper album or anywhere i can easily listen to it without getting on youtube
Top 10 songs of DCFC definitely. This song is so powerful and intense.
Our imagination is as timeless and as endless and is as part of the universe as the stars themselves. They dont die, they change and grow and shine and some time after deep time they become anew. Like me and you.
Why can't great songs like this be played on the radio?
I love that song ...Is perfect
.
I can listen to the same song over and over and it never gets old no mater what
I cry everytime I hear that.
this song is amazing, why didn't they include this on an actual album?
you may ask yourself "is there anyone so alone"?
This is so good
This. Is. Great.
Makes me cry.. Words can't describe this song
Why am I getting hide and seek vibes from the vocals!?
amazing song
the lyrics are sooooo good here
Gooooood song.
We need more likes, this is amazing.
The thing I fear about life is that yes it is temporary and nothing will last but I cant get over how little of a difference ill make I guess its important to do the things I do but my legacy will never be remembered so I will ask when im dead and gone for you not to forget me.
omg..!! it sounds just like Something about airplanes. love. it.
I tried to click the like button about thirty times....
rainymood + this song
I am listening to this while coloring a cookie. You Jelly?
Why is this not on Spotify
You were right... it is ^-^
Hey! Can I use this image for my video I’m making about Death Cab? I’d really appreciate it!
Sure!! Go ahead! :)
Victoria Griggio Thanks! :)
gosh. this song takes me back to middle school :'(
@7007513 yeah all of their stuff is so good; old and new. If I was going to get picky then I would say that I like their early stuff more, but it's splitting hairs. Great band.
I was very surprised it wasn´t on youtube yet, what isn´t?!
@7007513
its in "Future Soundtrack Of America". i must confess i wikipedia-ed it. perhaps that's where you got the song? Its a compilation album. either thanks for uploading it, sounds amazing!
To be honest, im beyond dissapointed this never made it to an album, but i cant help but feel like theres a reason. I think some songs, are made for a song writer, you know, like to keep. To remind yourself of what you do and what your not and what you believe in. Theres something in this song that whispers, Im a keeper but im too much for anyone to understand.
What the hell are you babbling about?
The morning's son is bout to break... I'm looking in, as you create, someone new
You fix your hair and tie your shoes and tuck your shirt and now you feel new.
The glass is full.. the glass is broke.. and everyday dissolves... and there's no...
Of ever leaving this temporary life.
Is there anyone so alone that there's no beep before the dial tone?
There is literally no allusion or reference to it, and Mr. Gibbard is usually explicit about the thing he means to say.
I took the picture from the internet and changed it, it was actually a sinlge, "A movie script ending" I think. And the song, I'm not sure. I think I got it from a sound track, I downloaded it along with other songs that don't exactly belong to any album.
Compilation album
The future soundtrack for America
@Jorrrdddinnn we deffinitely need more likes!
saaame.
Can't find this on I tunes
The only info I can find about this song, is it's on a compilation called "Future Soundtrack for America"
Please someone just tell me what the ending point is to the immagination of a human?
@cohea4 it doesn't seem to be that well known :( anyway you should imagine what it's like to live in Argentina and not even be able to buy their cds :P all i can find is bad quality packaging and it's only their latest albums:( i wish i could get the rest!
Same graphics as "A Movie Script Ending" single and "Stability" EP.
Oh! That’s just something I photoshopped for the video when I uploaded it, since I had no actual cover.
@webcreeper2002 yes it is! sorry for the delay!!
Anyone know what album this is on?
@mdp311 did I contact you for the mp3?
@sadisticbutcher Honestly, no idea!
@josimonkeyman I want the actual cds in my hands!
It will be in some album?
What era is this from? Discovering it in 2019.
Just checked, it was released in 2004. On my birthday, no less! If only I listened to Death Cab back then, I would've considered it a wonderful birthday gift!
@EdwardCullen185 I honestly doubt it.
:)
What album is this from? :)
@7007513 could you send me the mp3s?
Is this from an album?
It's not on any album.
is this song about going to Western Washington University?
I think more about his move to LA, hence the last lines
none of theirs. I think it appeared in an album called "future soundtrack of america" or something like that!
Victoria Griggio Yes, A compilation album by their record label, full of multiple songs by multiple artists. It was written by them though
I can't stand Transatlanticism. It's a stronger release than Photo Album, but to me it was a cheaply done album. I always wondered what it would sound like if they had kept their edge like they had with Facts. I believe it would be filled with gems like this song. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting take; "cheap" is definitely not a word I would use to describe _Transatlanticism._
