0:47: Jimmy doesn‘t get it that Christoph just described the Austrian flag. That is Christoph‘s kind of humor: Jimmy asks Christoph whether he knows the US-flag (what he knows of course), but instead of answering correctly, he describes the Austrian flag. By Jimmy lecturing him this isn‘t the US-flag, he actually (and unknowingly) shows his ignorance for any other flag despite the US one… And, well, asking an Austrian about US-food is like asking a German about US-cars or a Swiss about US-watches, or any European about US-culture…
He got out of the skit and this stupid host winged the rest of it. Also, at the end, as the camera is panning into the band, you can notice Waltz getting up, I presume to get the hell out of there.
For an Austrian this guy has a solid sense of humor. It's hard to pass on in the US sometimes, but very amusing. Kind of guy one would love to have a social evening with. Lots of wit and second degree.
I enjoy all the foods that he hates but I love how he just roasts the shit out of American eating habits😂😂 he's so funny that you can't even get offended about it😂
Sierra B US eating habits are a disgrace and have turned the population into a bunch of hogs that have a life expectation that is almost 10 years shorter than in Europe. A 50yo European in most cases looks like a 35yo american, take a trip to Europe and you'll see what I mean.
the host always acts like that with all the foreign actors, he speaks to them like they're mentally disabled, another interview that comes to mind is one with Roma actress Yalitza Aparicio, she's very smart and sophisticated yet he always acts and asks questions in a bellitelling manner, what he doesn't realize is he ends up making himself look ignorant and just a pure embarrassment
Christoph Waltz is so articulate and it would be nice to hear someone ask him questions that could allow his personality and ideas to come out. Instead we listen to him getting lectured on his taste in burgers and hotdogs. Sidenote, is Jimmy drunk? He sounds like he is slurring.

Same. As a Dutchman raised in Norway who has lived his entire adult life in the United States, this is very difficult to watch. My Norwegian mother had a great fondness for the United States, though I can't quite figure out why, and I inherited her reserved manner. A reserved manner, something that seems discouraged in American culture where the bold and the boisterous tend to be rewarded in their endeavors. And the quiet thoughtful and intelligent tend to be dismissed as strange and of little use. I'm reminded daily and have been for the last 20 years that I just don't fit in here

The only appropriate aswer to Kimmel would be "Naa, I woaß ned!" All the time. But I still appreciate the effort of Waltz to somehow make the conversation less pointless.
christoph waltz reminds me of myself at school sometimes (i live in the u.s. and i'm taiwanese). it can be so exhausting having conversations with some americans who do not have a single clue about anything outside of their own country (or even outside of their own state) yet treat others like they're inferior. Mr. Waltz you are too educated and intelligent to be interviewed by someone like jimmy kimmel, lol.
No tension from Cristoph. But Kimmel was starting to get offended as an MMMMURICAN. You can see that when he interrupted him with "You're no fun at all" while Cristoph was going on with his anti-americanized cinema culture rant. You can't allow that on a Talk Show in the U.S.A. and Kimmel used that joke to cut him off and say Hey, out of line. Personally, as an Italian, we're not that distant from Vienna, I can see and agree on 100% of what Cristoph said. It's so blatantly obvious to our european eyes.
@@traurigesland4622 I think it's funny personally. Americans seem to think that they are the country everyone else in the world aspires to be. That they are the Pinnacle of modern culture. To be fair, I know a great many Americans who are highly intelligent and well-educated and are similarly annoyed by their counterparts ignorance. Likewise, I know plenty European citizens, Spanish Italian Dutch German Greek and others, with terrible eating habits and the intelligence of a bread crust. Not to mention some of the most backward attitudes toward women and homosexuals that rival only the American Christian evangelicals. My point is simply that you can find ignorance and foolish talk in every country of the world. Nobody's culture encourages it, not even American culture. Though there is a seedy underbelly of American culture that is becoming louder and more visible all the time that seems to celebrate ignorance and punish those who speak the truth and know better.
During the silent era movie theaters commonly sold potato chips to their customers but with the advent of sound the chomping of the chips was too loud and movie theaters switched to selling popcorn instead because of its quieter crunch.
He's an intellectual. The American culture is not an intellectual culture, I'm not necessarily saying that's a bad thing before people get offended, so it's no surprise he doesn't like it.
Mmm, that has nothing to do being intellectual. It's food taste/culture and probably just a little bit of "attitude" like "I don't eat this junk food". I think the same. I live not far away from 2 McDonalds: never went there. For 2 years I was driving twice a day on the same street. Never stopped by. The other one is on the way to the office now! Exactly the same. The one and only time in my life was in Taipeh, for breakfast , 9 years ago, because we didn't have continental breakfast at the hotel.
Herr Goldmann Barbecue sauce is a disgusting sweet melassa that kills the flavor of grilled meat, you almost can't tell if you are eating pork, beef or poultry with it.
The whole interview sends the vibe like he is just here to be mocked. Its so unsettling how jimmy doesnt even actually converse with waltz he just keeps talking to find random material which he can use to make fun of him
We were once in Gloucester, Britain. A Briton tells us that we Germans have no sense of humor. We then laughed so much and we said to him: "It was good!" The Brit was surprised and then asked a very, very serious question. We then got stomach pains. . . Just a friendly FYI: Wiener Schnitzel is not a hot dog or sausage. The W is pronounced like a V, "V-iener". Wiener as in Viennese, as in from Vienna the capital of Austria. A Schnitzel is a piece of meat, usually chicken or pork, that has hammered thin, breaded(flour, egg, breadcrumbs) and fried in Butterschmalz (clarified butter). It's served with a lemon slice and cranberry jam and eaten with some kind of potato side, potato salad, fries, etc. I love Schnitzelsemmel for breakfast. It's a schnitzel on a fresh roll with sliced onions and cocktail sauce. The cocktail sauce in Austria is much creamier than the typical shrimp cocktail sauce so it works well with Schnitzel. I think that's what I'm gonna have for breakfast today! Tchüss ❤️ #schnitzellove

@@imvandenh She says that a person's lifestyle is better in Germany. They have a better work environment. Better vacation system and medical care. Plus the food is healthier. The bozo *asked* Waltz “what colors do you fly, do you know the colors of our flag (LOL)”, clearly a joke set-up implying “do you fly our flag, or your home country’s?”
Waltz answered the question directly, the colors red white red - if he didn’t know the Austrian flag, maybe he shouldn’t have asked the question
When he said " 3 stripes red white red ... Thats the Austrian flag & nobody got it

Ok.... Jimmy... you have an amazingly talented actor sitting across from you with a very interesting past and culture... and you talk about condiments for 3 minutes.
Well, it's late night TV, you don't want challenging..........

I think its christoph waltz talking in his second language (and he even talks slowly in german) vs the fast pace people are used to in talk shows
Just what I did, what was going on in that interview??
I'm 63, I come from Portugal, I drank coca cola once in my life and I hated the stuff, I don't like Macdonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut or any of the other fast food joints. I don't remember ever eating a hot dog. I eat fish everyday for supper, I love soup and veggies, love chicken, pork and beef, drink beer and wine regurarly and have a cup of Italian style coffee at the end of each meal. Our eating habits are very similar to Italy's, France's, Greece's and Spain's.
I hate cola too
They also put sugar in their bread en drink coffee out of a bucket
Yes, true! Portugal is beautiful ❤️
And this is why you will live a long fruitful life...while America lives in diabetes and heart disease.
No your food habits are not similar to Greek or France or any of this. Your food habits are the best I've tasted in whole Europe! Never tasted something like a real good cataplana! Come from Germany and I wish that Portugal would be more close. I would just travel there for the food!

@@christophwaltz3710 Mr Waltz. To receive a reply from you to my comment is absolutely appreciated and such a thrill. I too hope you and your family are staying safe during this difficult period in our world’s history. I am fortunate and blessed to reside in Australia where we are protected geographically being so far away from the hot spots.
In case you ever have the opportunity to read this reply, I really want to convey that I have watched your performances, particularly in Inglorious Bastards, probably 25 times because to witness such excellence in character creation is such a rarity. I have studied that particular role you brought to life and without doubt, is the finest acting performance I have ever had the privilege to enjoy. I remain convinced that no other actor worldwide could have brought Colonel Hans Landa to life such as you did. I know you will have received untold comments about your sublime work inventing this character and I am one tiny voice adding to this; however I am not someone who generally takes the time to make public comments. I sought out your UA-cam footage as I have never appreciated a performance as much and wanted to share my opinion. I have studied acting since my school days although never attained any measure of success but you Mr Waltz utterly blew me away. I have tried to imagine what it must of been like creatively to bring him to life, think about his back story and get to play with the incredible dialogue in the various languages that Landa possessed. I know it’s been a while ago and your repertoire has grown exponentially; however that role is singularly the finest acting performance I have ever had the pleasure to view.
I doubt you will read this given how busy you must be but knowing there is a slim possibility I may have the opportunity to share my opinion with you makes me happy. Bless you and yours. Kimanie

God, he's so soft and quiet, I love him.
0:47: Jimmy doesn‘t get it that Christoph just described the Austrian flag. That is Christoph‘s kind of humor: Jimmy asks Christoph whether he knows the US-flag (what he knows of course), but instead of answering correctly, he describes the Austrian flag. By Jimmy lecturing him this isn‘t the US-flag, he actually (and unknowingly) shows his ignorance for any other flag despite the US one…
And, well, asking an Austrian about US-food is like asking a German about US-cars or a Swiss about US-watches, or any European about US-culture…
OMG, his expressions at 9:00 (when Jimmy told him Las Vegas was created for people to be conceived there) floored me!!! 🤣🤣🤣
i cant babahhHah
He got out of the skit and this stupid host winged the rest of it.
Also, at the end, as the camera is panning into the band, you can notice Waltz getting up, I presume to get the hell out of there.
Christopher waltz is the best part of this interview. The. Interviewer has a awful way of over pronouncing ever word.
I would love to sit down and have an evening just talking with Waltz about every subject i can come up with. Hes awesome
Jimmy seems to forget that he can speak better english than he can.
For an Austrian this guy has a solid sense of humor. It's hard to pass on in the US sometimes, but very amusing. Kind of guy one would love to have a social evening with. Lots of wit and second degree.
I enjoy all the foods that he hates but I love how he just roasts the shit out of American eating habits😂😂 he's so funny that you can't even get offended about it😂
Sierra B
US eating habits are a disgrace and have turned the population into a bunch of hogs that have a life expectation that is almost 10 years shorter than in Europe.
A 50yo European in most cases looks like a 35yo american, take a trip to Europe and you'll see what I mean.
Finally somebody got his humor. Roasting is the typical Waltz humor. He does that with almost everything. XD
You can actually. If an American said the exact same thing about any other country, you'd immediately scream racism
Europe > America period!

the host always acts like that with all the foreign actors, he speaks to them like they're mentally disabled, another interview that comes to mind is one with Roma actress Yalitza Aparicio, she's very smart and sophisticated yet he always acts and asks questions in a bellitelling manner, what he doesn't realize is he ends up making himself look ignorant and just a pure embarrassment

Waltz is an incredible Actor. Best I’ve seen in a long, long time. Mr. Waltz, please don’t debase yourself by appearing on these shows.
Good lord I can't watch this. As an Austrian living in the US it's just so cringey to watch...

He just didn’t get Christoph‘s jokes.
Sadly.... could have been a funnier interview

Every interview of Waltz i see says that hes being interviewed by a child whilst being a man of much higher intelligence and frankly my dear, its true
christoph waltz reminds me of myself at school sometimes (i live in the u.s. and i'm taiwanese). it can be so exhausting having conversations with some americans who do not have a single clue about anything outside of their own country (or even outside of their own state) yet treat others like they're inferior. Mr. Waltz you are too educated and intelligent to be interviewed by someone like jimmy kimmel, lol.
This interview make me laugh so hard, it's amazing
He's to smart to be an American
The differences between Americans and Europeans are brutal.
Well, the Austrian cuisine is quite amazing, I give him that...
0:47 "red, white, and red" colors flying right over Jimmy's head.
Is it me or there is tension between both?
no waltz just didn't throw kimmel a bone. Kimmel can't afford to be disgusted by american food fetishes like the rest of the world.
I felt that Kimmel really pushed against him, while Waltz just exposed his opinions and didn't push back against Kimmel's
It's so blatantly obvious to our european eyes.
pretty sad kitsune Agreed.
Love how nobody gets the flag to the Austria flag right in the beginning...
The look he gives jimmy at 9:05 says everything 😂
This video is all about Christoph Waltz roasting silently the whole american culture and i'm here for that😂
Waltz is the perfect gentleman. Imagine him to be the next Bond. He wouldn‘t even need to touch a gun to manage himself through the action scenes
I'd love to see Christoph being bond...
Well a Bond villain becoming Bond is a little wierd don't you think?
Dear The United States. This is why many Europeans, from Ireland to Ukraine and back again, think that your talk show hosts are a bit mental.
Christoph testing Jimmy on his knowledge about the Austrian flag: red white red.

Barbecue sauce is a disgusting sweet melassa that kills the flavor of grilled meat, you almost can't tell if you are eating pork, beef or poultry with it.
