      Kyle Miller that's great to hear. I'll put on different videos of other UA-cam knife reviewers based on what I'm doing... for instance, if I'm eating lunch I might put on a Cliff Stamp video where he's explaining concepts. If I'm painting a room by myself, I'll put on one of Solo's 25 minute videos and just listen as I go.
      For me as a viewer, the different approaches all apply.

    The fit and finish is spectacular on this knife. For the price u can't bear it. The CF is textured on top of G 10. Awesome steel as long as u keep it light oiled. Perfect texture in my opinion. So don't know why anyone would complain. Looks good. A gentleman's folder u can use for hard use if u wish.

    Ok mastah i finally did it. I wasnt really pleased with all the results. The knife was a cold steel hold out 3. I brought the knife to the limit of compounds but it couldnt split hair because it had a 40 degree angle inclusive. So i decided to dull out the edge on cardboard. After approximately 80-90 push cuts it stopped shaving hair. So i started at the very bottom of what i had near me, the spyderco core rods and started to "reprofile" the edge. After alot of strokes i was kind of pleased because when i was done with core i could already go through phonebook paper. I also realised that cts xhp needs alot more pressure then i expected. So i worked my way further down, finishing with fine and then umtra fine. The phonebook paper test was ridiculous already. After i finushed with the rods i removed the burr by stroking it over natural leather special meant for knives and edged tools. Finally i went on the strops started with 8 micron diamond compound, goin on with 5 micron.

    I find this to be an unsatifying sequel to the original GB (which I regard as one of the two of spyderco's best, along with the military). The GB1 had the unique, and very useful feature of a shallow, smooth choil right behind the blade. This enabled a very strong hammer grip, but in the forward saber grip trying to rest the thumb on the blade would push it too far back, causing some strain in the wrist. Instead of trying to improve that grip (by making the hump shallower and moving it forward or back), Mr Bradley appears to have given up on the original concept.
    Your observation on the open ergos is on point, Gayle Bradley said of the original that the undefined grooves were for glove users. I find something similar on the 2, but biased more toward the saber than the hammer ( but I find the saber worse due to less girth in the back of the handle). I'd also argue that the spine in front of the hump can encourage putting the thumb there, at which point the loss of the forwad choil becomes an issue. I'll admit that the draw cut grip on the 2 is better. Anyway, it's good that a working, M4, proud liner classy folder is still available for people to try.

    Excellent vid as ever...do you use diamond paste wet or not completely dry? It looked like you did in the first of the stroppings on wood. Just looking for guidance/your input as I'm fairly new to pastes and have let mine dry on wood (which takes a while!).

    • @michaelchristy4982
      @michaelchristy4982  8 років тому +1

      I like the 2 better. The first one is a stronger build, but I'm never going to push either one far enough to need that strength. The lock on the 2nd one puts it ahead for me, but I really like both of them.

    • @michaelchristy4982
      @michaelchristy4982  6 років тому

      stlchevy95 I sharpen at 15 degrees per side. I can sharpen freehand at different angles and be accurate with it. Look at some of the later testing videos. After sharpening I put the blade into an angle guide to show that the angle is what I wanted it to be.

    I have a Spyderco sharpmaker system with bonus ultra fine stones, but could you tell me about after using those a little more specifically. I mean your other equips that you used.
    The English is not my first language. Excuse me, with your fast talking it's difficult to understand for me.
    Thanks a lot.

    Goin on with 3.5 micron, 2.5 micron, 1.5 micron, 1.0 micron, 0.5 micron, 0,25 micron diamond spray, 0,25 micron diamomd compound, 0,025 micron and finished finally with 0,010 micron. The result isnt bad for beeing a rookie go easy on me lol. I can wittle hair free hanging long hairs probably im gonna test it out. But what i can tell is that when i go over my arm with the blade and stroke it trough my arm hairs without apexing the edge it splitts arm hairs and i can see them fly off my arm. The angle still isnt perfect at the very tip is slightly still some 40 degree inclusive left. I can see it easily when light breaks the surface of the edge. Maybe the blade shape of the knife isnt ideal to do the free hanging hair test im gonna have to try this on my cold steel code 4. the knife has alot more belly and is better for such tasks. Thank you alot brother for teaching me all this may god be allways with you! Im going to inform you abou better results if i ever get some lol

    • @michaelchristy4982
      @michaelchristy4982  8 років тому

      I haven't done anything to protect the blade on mine and haven't had a problem. (Although I have heard about other people having a problem with M4). But when I do want to protect a blade, I use a product called Froglube because it's non-toxic, so it's good safe.

    Would you say this knife has the best performce geometry in a production folder for sharpness?

    • @michaelchristy4982
      @michaelchristy4982  8 років тому

      No, but I think it'll work very good as an every day carry knife. There are some people that have an issue with knives like the Endura, Griptilian, and Delica because of the handle scales... While they perform great, some people don't like the feel of them in hand. This knife pulls ahead in that regard because of the carbon fiber overlay. That mixed with good blade geometry and M4 steel, (which is a great steel for a folding knife) and everything else they got right on this knife, makes it a great option for an EDC knife.

    Thank you. I've been a fan of this since it came out. The only problem is that it is a bitch to close. I wish they had given a little contour to the liner lock. Other than that, its my second favorite EDC right next to the Starmate.

    dude i am dissapointed as fk, i bought so many diamond compounds and couldnt manage to bring it to this sharpness. cutting free hanging hairs is no problem with a quick slash, but it was my goal to reach this. i have tomention that i havent used bass wood i only ised the leather. Do you think it is that important to strop it on wood? and how many strokes on one side for each compound ? some help would be nice bro. your biggest fan: Val

      What's steel are you sharpening and what stones are you using?

    • @EarthAlien51
      @EarthAlien51 8 років тому +1

      spyderco sharpmaker standarts and ultrafine, i worked my way down from 8 to 5 micron now, then 3.5 to 1.5 to 1.0 then .5 and diamond spray and compound .25. Then i moved to .025 micron diamond compound again and finished with the last possible as i know 0.010 micron compound im sitting at the table at this momment lol^^

    • @EarthAlien51

      and the steel atm is CTS XHP on a cs hold out 3

    • @michaelchristy4982
      @michaelchristy4982  8 років тому

      +Val Valiant if you went through that many compounds on XHP and there's still a problem, it's in the initial stone sharpening. You have to get the stones right before the strops or the whole thing doesn't work. I spent a long time just working with stones to see how far I could take things before I got into strops and compounds. I could get S90V to cleanly slice TP just from ceramic stones. If I hadn't spent so much time on stones alone, I wouldn't be able to get it right now.
      I also spent a long time testing before I ever even thought of posting a steel comparison or even starting a UA-cam channel.
