  • No music. Just sounds and a satisfying timelapse of a wheel hub bearing replacement on a 04 MINI Cooper S.

    I checked for play in my wheels before taking a short road trip, and found my front driver's side bearing was a little wobbly. I ordered a bearing, went on my trip, and changed the bearing when I got home. This is a satisfying timelapse video..if you need instructions, check out my other hub bearing replacement video here: • How to Replace MINI Co...
    This hub bearing replacement is done on an 04 MINI Cooper S.

    Dude, I own an '04 Cooper S as well. So your channel is a how-to goldmine for me! Just had a wheel bearing replaced professionally because I was unsure of if I could do it myself. No more!

      Nice man! Yea it's not too bad to DIY the bearings on this car. The only obstacles might be having to buy or rent specialty tools like the big socket set, ball joint separators, or a torque wrench; but then if you buy them you can do bearings for the rest of your life lol. Thanks for subbing!

      Also how much did it cost for a shop to do that?

    • @DubyaOnCA
      @DubyaOnCA 7 років тому

      It's cost about $200 for the bearing (which comes with a lifetime warranty), and then $120 for the man-hours worked. I think it was around $350 after taxes.

    Nice angle for the time lapse! That bearing was definitely due!

    Great video, but you missed the T50 brake rotor retaining screw. It holds the rotor in place and aligned while you servicing the parts.

      Thanks. I didn't miss it, I drill those out and leave them out. They're a waste of time.

    Great video! Still useful even today. Can I just ask if it might easier for a stuck hub to just take the leg off altogether and do it offline? What do you think. Thanks.

    Very nice video my good sir! I am learning that editing videos is not easy sometimes . On my Crown Vic the hubs are pretty much the same way to replace them , minus I don't have the same suspension and the bearing is inside the rotor not separate so i have to hand pack the grease .

      thanks man, and you'll get the hang of it. sounds like the bearings on my old dodge van and my porsche on the fronts

      a DIY Car Guy thanks i have a feeling i will. I have no doubt that the van and the Porsche is that way. Once the Porsche is fixed are you going to have it as a daily or a play toy? Just curious.

      Jimbo Booth might start dailying it again once it's fixed...the MINI isn't long for my ownership, meaning I'll probably sell it soon, or at least try to sell it, it's just not a durable car lol

      a DIY Car Guy Cool. I understand. They are fun cars though. From what I hear the most durable cars are rear wheel drive ( solid rear axle )and with full frame . I heard from my friends dad that he road in old Ford taxis in NYC and the floors were just rotted out but the car was running strong.

    thanks for the video.where do you place the yellow jack stand on the arm or on the chassis?

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  7 років тому

      I put it on the crossmember / K-frame, strong spot that's out of the way

      haha nah a lot of people are driving by with aftermarket exhaust, no exhaust, straight piped motorcycles, diesel pickups, commercial trucks. It actually sucks for making videos.
