And Rhea and the Church are the snow, which Byleth, by “melting the snow”, they uncover the secrets from the church and bring a change to Fódlan, like a long winter that has come to an end
Crimson Flower felt like the best balance between character development and society reformation. Azure Moon and Verdant Wind tend to focus on one or the other.
CF is seriously rushed in both the amount of cutscenes and the route in general. I don't really like the route myself, but it's still a shame that it's lower quality than the others.
notice the lighting in the cutscenes: silver snow edelgard is all dark with no hope of reconciliation; azure moon dimitri is in a dark path however byleth has light to bring him back to try and be better, likely the one who most needs help; verdant wind claude everything is shining, the most reasonable of the three.
Claude was always in the light because he started his day right with breakfast from McDonalds. Jokes aside though, very nice observation about the lighting setting tone for the routes
I’d like to point out that Dimitri only hallucinates people he believes to be dead. This scene implies that some part of dimitri held on to the hope that Byleth was still alive, and that when he sees Byleth he believes that the last remaining part of hope he had has finally faded.
Notice that claudes is the only one where byleth has a genuine smile, in all others its either the usual stoic expression or a face of sadness in Dimitris case
Dimitri loses his humanity and regains it. Even though Eldegard isn't initially responsible for it, her actions cause Byleths slumber. She starts a world war. This ultimately leads to Dimitri suffering through years of loss, betrayal and killing. All alone. Very rarely is a character with mental illness well represented or explained in anime.
I'm not sure if I am right about this but Three Houses is probably the first Fire Emblem that portrays one of the main lord's anguish, betrayal, and the cost of war. In every past FE, the main lord just suffered depression for one chapter then went right back to criting things. Chrom for instance should have been unsupportable or even had angry lines for at least two chapter's after a certain character's death
@@MrSOAP999 genealogy had sigurd fighting a war he shouldn't have, which ended with his death, but not before showing his wife married to his once thought friend
Verdant Wind was my first route and I had the biggest, dorkiest smile on my face to see a 23-year-old Claude in the Goddess Tower, awaiting my return to put an end to the war. This game really makes the war phase feel like a special all-or-nothing type deal
I played the Golden Deer Route first. It made me happy to see the face of a friend long gone. And then I played the Blue Lion Route. It made me so sad, to see the happiness of Claude and then switch to the depressive episode of Dimitri.
Kinda late but I like that even though Edelgard draws her sword ready to kill him it isn't until she takes the first step forward that Byleth actually draws his. (I love those little details that actually tells us a lot about a character)
@@arn4775 No it doesn't, nothing about Claude's route is special or intelligent. The so called master tactician doesn't do anything incredibly smart or unique. His ideas exactly mirror Seteth's in terms of allies and battle strategy (minus the Almyrans but it's not like they actually do anything vital.) Claude supposedly doesn't want to rile up pro Imperial members of the Alliance but you don't see political strategy or unique strikes within the alliance. They just talk to Gloucester then take the bridge which would rile up Imperials and Imp supporters anyway. The only reason they don't use Leicester colors for the flag is because SS. But your men still fly Leicester colors anyway so Claude's flag argument goes to shit. Almost nothing about VW shows Claude's tactical strength without it being ripped from SS.
@@loserinasuit7880 Yes, you're not wrong. All of my reasons for liking VW are purely subjective. I really liked Golden Deers cast of characters and Claude's ultimate goal was one I could get behind. Silver Snow just felt really bland in comparison and none of the fights were that memorable. In terms of Edelgard, crimson flower was a lot more enjoyable, even though it was shorter and somewhat unfinished, just because playing as the "villain" was an interesting take.
@@arn4775 All of the fights save Nemesis in VW are in SS. You can't tell me that the base TWSITD live in or the lances of light aren't memorable moments. And you cannot credit VW because SS was written first. The cast also has nothing to do with the plot they presented to players. For a master tactician his plan is worse than Seteth's in regards to assaulting Edelgard's palace. The route is underdone and arguably only saved by the Almyran dynamic that is touched upon but never expanded. We don't see Claude shit on as a kid, or as an adult. and Cyril tells us more about Almyra than he does. Instead of paralleling SS VW would have been special if you actually went to Almyra and invaded Fodlan under the banner of Almyra and became an Almyran colony with Byleth having lordship over such colony.
I know other people have said it already, but damn... the reunion with Dimitri is still the most emotional and heartbreaking. To see that he's become a husk of who he used to be? Consumed by hatred and emotional turmoil? It hurts, man 😭
Of course VW and AM both get cutscenes of byleth approaching them, and SS gets a cool anime fight scene, but CF gets only a still of edelgard hugging byleth

@@MrSOAP999 Sadly, I very-much doubt that. Much as I wish they were animated, the game's already been out for a long time and the DLC is done. Doesn't seem like the sort of thing to spend time and money on when Three Houses already sold extremely well; it's not like updating the cutscenes would really benefit them that much at this point.
as far that i knew or remember, it seem that the Edelgard route was put last in the game, and orginial not plan for the game because of that her route is the shortes and almost(?) the same as the church route
@@DKHZStudio That's actually the complete opposite of what's true. It's been confirmed that Edelgard's route was the first one they worked on, which is probably why it's the only one where they bothered to come up with a branch part-way through. I get the feeling that perhaps the story was meant to have multiple branching points, but they wound up changing it so that the only major decision takes place at the very start. I could be wrong about that last part, though.
The framing of the sun excellently shows where the leaders are and how seeing Byleth affects them. Dimitri is in the shadows and only when the professor shows up does the sun hit him. Much like his hope as come through again, even if his darkness covers most of it. Edelgard is completely in darkness with only the light from the moon and stars. There is a small chance to reconnect but like the rise and setting of the sun, old friends are lost and new ones are gained. Then finally Claude is standing in the sunlight. He hopes he can win the war and knows that to do so, he must use the hope and lessons he learn from Byleth. When they arive, Claude knows he can win and seize his destiny and fulfill his dream. This moment is my all time favorite cutscenes from any Fire Emblem games.
Someone pointed out months back that unlike other routes, in Silver Snow there is no light because Byleth's return does not bring hope or light to Edelgard, only death and darkness
I think that each reunion has it's own benefits. The most emotional is definitely the AM reunion: seeing Dimitri's fall and his trauma is painful, especially if you didn't see it coming. But I also hold a special place for the SS reunion too: losing Edelgard and Hubert and having them fight against you in the war is painful in its own way. Seeing your former student (Edelgard) threaten to kill you if your paths crossed again is pretty chilling. Especially when you reach the Edelgard death scene in SS, where she admits that if anyone had to kill her, she's relieved that it is her former teacher.
When I first play 3H I picked the black eagles before I knew there was 2 routes. I ended up on SS and was actually relieved I lost Hubert and edelgard bc unfortunately they were my 2 worst units. I got really unlucky with them.
Dimitri returned because he is lost, he wants to return to the past. He is hiding. Edelgard returns to reflect. Claude returns because he believes in you. He is the only one that expects teach to be there.
The reunion with Edelgard in Silver Snow shows how much she's holding her feelings back in front of others. The events of Silver Snow and Crimson Flowers are nearly identical leading up to this, the difference is that Edelgard did not have the reassurance that Byleth would be by her side. Even then, she still asks her to join her in Silver Snow, and asks her if she still wants to fight with her in Crimson Flowers. But in SS, she acts cold, and it's clear she's already worked up the resolve to fight Byleth. In Crimson Flowers, she is on the verge of tears from the emotions she lets out, she tells you how difficult it has been
Still can't believe Crimson Flower got shafted so hard... It's ALL stills. All of it, bar the final cutscene. There's not even proper context for Byleth's 5 year disappearance! It's a reaction shot of Edelguard and Hubert's character models yelling out in concern before jarringly cutting to the explaination of the 5 years of war immediately after. _There's not even an immediate playable reunion Chapter for the characters!!_ I played BE after my first run in BL because I wanted to do what Dimitri couldn't and understand Edelgard's motivations. I was _not_ ready for the sheer amount of disrespect the game had for her route as a whole. To think that Edel was both pushed as an important if not """true""" main character in the first trailers *and* had the main theme's lyrics sung from her POV only for her to get these absolute scraps in the final game... Disgusting.
CF is the result of a rushed deadline. The reason we don't have a reunion at dawn in CF is because Garreg Mach wasn't abandoned and left for thieves to plunder as Edelgard turned it into the base for the Black Eagle Strike Force after forcing Rhea and the CoS out. As much as I thought CF could have been used as the route where everyone unites to beat the dubstep mole people as Dimitri was the most sane in this route compared to even his own, Claude being Claude, Seteth and Flayn wanted no part in the fighting, it was executed badly. Black Eagle Route as a whole feels like the game's way of saying "You choose wrong, now watch as everyone dies" as everyone can literally die in Silver Snow and the game will not end unless its Byleth who dies
@@MrSOAP999 yeah it really sucks that they'd have a character so front and centre both in and out of game only to treat them like this. Edelgard was the first lord revealed for 3H if I remember right--the first _named character_ even--as well as the person who kicks off the plot of the game. If anything her route should be the MOST special! Like, it wouldn't even matter if her route was shorter (only 18 vs the 21/22 of other routes) or that CF is harder to activate (B Support by a certain date + lose days on an event to unlock her path) if there were some 5 second unique story cutscenes just for Edelgard (the whole lengthy scene with Edel being crowned was great despite being in-game and not animated, why not have more of that?)--but there's barely anything! I can't imagine having been someone who saw Edel pre-launch or on the box and said "Im going for her first!" only to be left spinning as the game jiltedly jumps from event to event and cuts to stills instead of properly explaining itself with a cutscene or extended character dialogue. The poor player might even be tricked into thinking the entire game was like that! For me, though, the dip in development care between BL and BE was jaw dropping.
You actually only need C+ with El to be set on the CF route. Edelgard was revealed first because she was a girl and a cute one and it worked. The only thing I did not like about Edelgard's route is how she still remained secretive even to the BESF. Why not tell them that there are underground mole people and that this war is to unite Fodlan to eliminate them. I am hoping we get a route where all three work together and Edelgard learns to trust people again
@@MrSOAP999 I doubt there will ever be a united route, but yeah the fact that Edel was used as a marketing ploy and then served up scraps in the actual game is kinda sickening. If I were to improve her route I would: 1) have an extra cutscene with Edel as the Flame Emperor sans mask. This is where she would explain her motivations with more emphasis on Rhea's tendancy for executions and the other political conviniences that shape Fodlan in her favor instead of just having a vague explaination of "Rhea = Dragon. Gotta kill her and subjugate the land under the empire. No, I wont explain why". She would also bring up Byleth's past of fleeing the monastery and Jeralt's distrust of Rhea to the forefront, motivating the player to see Rhea more as a villain witholding answers from them. 2) have a cutscene of Byleth getting knocked down the canyon by Rhea with Edel trying to save them and flying into a rage when she can't. This then leads to Edel's successful takeover of the Church but leaves her bitter at the loss of her professor. 3) have a reunion chapter where Byleth runs into soldiers on their way to assassinate Edelgard at the church. Edel and Byleth, after a heartfelt reunion, work to fend off the enemies with the BE class joining in as the chapter progresses, each one being slowly alerted to the assassins and commenting on Byleth's miraculous return. 4) add 1 or 2 extra chapters to the CF route dealing with Edel and Byleth turning against the Slithers and wiping them out instead of having it be a mere note in the Epilogue.
The Claude scene is so much better after Three Hopes. That game showed us Claude at his worst, so seeing him here, full of faith in Byleth, shows how much he grew.
Dimitri's reunion made me feel so bad... to see him depressed, betrayed, with so much hatred, no hope and without and eye... I wanted to hug him so bad
@@MrSOAP999 I wasn't really talking about the route itself. Like, the route is still one of my favourites, but I was talking about the reunion specifically here.
It's very tragic since Edelgard was probably Byleth's best friend that point due to being the house leader. And the brief fight between them is really cool.
Dimitri's story always breaks my heart and his reunion is really a punch in the gut. You know he's a good kid deep down but all the anger and hatred that he's struggled for years to withhold just consumes him until he becomes this. Claude's reunion personally is my favorite because it feels so genuine to the character. Unlike the other house leaders, he doesn't necessarily need to you make himself a better person or to conquer this inner darkness within him. He sees you as an equal, helping him to make real change without losing their way. Claude is the wind, he's free spirited and curious, and just needs your guidance to blow in the right direction. Golden Deer route will always be my favorite and personal ''golden ending.''
I love how everyone else had a cool video scene and Edelgard had the regular ol chat. Although she did get that cool picture I guess which was wholesome.
My first playthrough, I chose Black Eagles and only wanted to side with Edelgard. I didn’t know the requirements to unlock Crimson Flower and I ended up crying inside at the Silver Snow reunion 🤣
I did the exact same thing as you. 🤣🤣🤣 Black Eagles was my first house but I didn’t know how to get her path so the fact that I had to part ways with her and those cutscenes made me so sad. 😭
I love the transition from well animated, kinda emotional cutscenes to the biggest jank I've seen modern RPG dialogue being delivered well except for CF but that route got the short end of the budget
FE3H was my first FE game. Barely saw any ads or anything. I fell in love with the game and it story. I played Blue Lions first, and Dimitri’s story broke me. At the timeskip and seeing him again all I could get out of my mouth was “Dimitri… what happened to you…”
Seeing Dimitri again only to realize he is but a shadow of the man you once knew and Edelgard basiclly on the verge of tears when she sees the Professor again in CF are two of my favorite moments in the game.
"I should've known.. that one day, you would be haunting me as well" "Even though our swords cross as they do now, there's no denying that our chosen paths never will." "Welcome back my teacher. I'm so happy that you're safe" "Ya overslept teach! pretty rude to keep a fella waiting like that, wouldn't you say?"
I like Claude and dimitri a lot but in the case of rhea and edelgard I have a bit of a problem with how they decide to change fodlon for the better as they see it but I can full support Claude and dimitri the other two are very questionable to me
It's interesting to see the contrast between the Crimson Flower and Azure Moon reunions. When you meet Dimitri, he's a crazed madman who at first thinks Byleth is a ghost and then acts like he doesn't care she's okay. Edelgard, on the other hand, is overjoyed and embraces Byleth, even though you would think 5 years without him would have caused her to revert back to her Flame Emperor self. Just shows that Dimitri in the last quarter of Azure Moon is not that different from Edelgard in general.
I personally preffer to compare SS and CF, on the first one she is really hostile towards Byleth and is not flinching to attack it yet in CF she is arguably the most over joyed of the lords to be back with her teacher.
I adore the Crimson Flower reunion. It's clear in CF more than any other how much Byleth affected Edelgard. It's the only route where her head is still on straight and she values her comrades, sometimes at the expense of ending the war quicker.
Disagree tbh. Edelgard really isn't much different on CF. She lies to the Black Eagles. Hides the truth from them. Keeps secrets. The only difference is that she has Byleth now to fight her battles for her, which means that Byleth was more about her firepower than her advisor.
Completely agreed, out of the different leaders, cfs reunion is so pure, she doesn't simply see you as a tool or with indifference, but as a dear friend and it's wholesome.
I know everyone is quite delighted in Claude's scene. Where instead of being cloaked in shadow, he's basking in the light. Of all the characters who needed Byleth's help the most. Claude never struck me as someone who depended on Byleth as much. In all the routes; Claude is able to survive the war or even make allies of the lord you side with. His values and pursuits can join in on the route you select. It's why in my eyes; Claude's story is the least engaging to me. People presume golden deer is.. well, the golden route to save as many people as possible. He has the least amount of baggage to deal with when trying to end his story. While Dimitri and Edelgard's fates hinge on Byleth's involvement. Dimitri; without Byleth is consumed with the desire for revenge and is destined to die to that insatiable bloodlust. Edelgard was destined to die as she is the one who had ignited the war in Fodlan. Rhea's fate is also up to Byleth whether she survives or is killed by their hand. All these characters are tied distinctly to Byleth while Claude can achieve his goals with or without Byleth. All a matter of how or when.
For the silver snow cutscene edelgard is using the sword of seiros, which is kind of ironic since she's fighting the church. I'm doing my azure wind run rn and I was really surprised by how short the reunion scene was especially since I'd saved it for last. Feral Dimitri is great but I miss Claude 😔

I’d like to point out that Dimitri only hallucinates people he believes to be dead. This scene implies that some part of dimitri held on to the hope that Byleth was still alive, and that when he sees Byleth he believes that the last remaining part of hope he had has finally faded.
And his disbelief about them being alive implies he was ready to give up as he had in Silver Snow before he thought they were dead

@@MrSOAP999 I always took that as byleths normal stoic expression but yeah I see it
Dimitri: WHY ARE YOU HAUNTING ME?!?
Edelgard: you've returned! Now we can win the war!
Claude: You want some Chicken?

Too bad it rips off silver snow.
@@loserinasuit7880 it does what silver snow does, but much better imo.

@@DKHZStudio That's actually the complete opposite of what's true.

In Crimson Flowers, she is on the verge of tears from the emotions she lets out, she tells you how difficult it has been
Oh lord I didn't notice Byleth actually smiles when seeing Claude
"What's with that surprised look my friend?"
If I were to improve her route I would:
1) have an extra cutscene with Edel as the Flame Emperor sans mask.
Considering she's the antagonist of the game her route probably wasn't planned at first.

It's very tragic since Edelgard was probably Byleth's best friend that point due to being the house leader. And the brief fight between them is really cool.
Not to mention Edelgard has a crush on you
Dimitri's story always breaks my heart and his reunion is really a punch in the gut.

Edelgard basiclly on the verge of tears when she sees the Professor again in CF are two of my favorite moments in the game.

I like Claude and dimitri a lot but in the case of rhea and edelgard I have a bit of a problem with how they decide to change fodlon for the better as they see it but I can full support Claude and dimitri the other two are very questionable to me
Technically siding with Rhea doesn’t change much of anything, Byleth just takes her place
In a way they all missed they're teacher and it makes it sadder you can't save them all
I personally preffer to compare SS and CF, on the first one she is really hostile towards Byleth and is not flinching to attack it yet in CF she is arguably the most over joyed of the lords to be back with her teacher.

Everyone’s talking about Byleth’s smile for Claude but the way she frowns at 1:32 is absolutely killing me😭

Dimitri killed them all
I know everyone is quite delighted in Claude's scene.
