    I might be visual novel poisoned but I actually liked the CGs more than prerendered cutscreens. A CG can focus on the important emotions of the scene, the relief of Edelgard seeing that her teacher is still alive, the tragedy of one sibling having to kill the other. Really the only scene that I think that needed a prerendered was the ending which got one since it goes though a roller-coaster of emotions that can't be covered by only one CG.

      @@sam7559 I don’t mind visual novel if it has voice acting. But CF needed some cutscenes. Like the javelin, dimitri, rheas speech, and a map with the agarthans.

      The alt scene at Tailtean with Dimitri and Dedue being just a black background was a travesty. The emotions were so good and the dialogue between them was excellent, but a black background just hammered home how lazy the route felt.

    • @sam7559
      @sam7559 Місяць тому +2

      @l.n.3372 I didn't have an issue with it being a black screen. Not everything needs to be shown. Going to use another FE game as an example, FE8. Part of the strength with Monica in FE 8 is that fact that we never see her and only get one line from her which adds to the screen compared to if IS made a sprite for her. If you need context for it play FE 8 since it's a great game in the series that isn't too long and explaining it would be a spoiler.

    • @l.n.3372
      @l.n.3372 Місяць тому +1

      @sam7559 that isn't remotely comparable. I have played FE8 and I know what you're talking about. And this isn't anywhere near the same thing as the CF Tailtean dialogue between Dimitri and Dedue. Some things lose the emotional impact if they are a black screen, and this is one of them.

    • @sam7559

      @l.n.3372 here's something you can do to prevent it from losing emotional impact, use your imagination.

    Crimson Flower is my favorite route primarily because of Edelgard and the black eagle house as a whole. Imo the black eagles have the strongest lineup of characters. I also really like the maps, they go for quality over quantity. The Fight for Fhirdiad is by far the best map in the game imo. It's still my favorite despite the fact that it feels really unfinished.

      @@abeefypig That's fair. I really like the crimson flower map because I think Apex of the World really works with the burning Fhirdiad. I also think the crimson flower finale feels the most like an epic final challenge. Though I'd say the Golden Deer finale is my second favorite due to the music as well. I do definitely have a natural bias towards the crimson flower because it was my first route.

    Crimson Flower is my favorite route in the game (though I'm still playing Verdant Wind and I'm not even halfway through, but somehow I feel that it won't change my opinion that much. I don't think I'll ever touch Silver Snow). It just... Feels like I'm doing the right thing when siding with Edelgard: fighting a corrupt system with fascistic undertones (the church bans books! It's basically the narrative shorthand for fascism) with the people Byleth genuinely cares for. Also, Edelgard is my second favorite out of the house leaders: she's idealistic, smart, pragmatic and yet very caring, especially when you S support her, and obviously all the way there. Azure Moon is all about preserving tradition, and it's my least favorite trope in media: societies need to change, fighting to preserve the status quo isn't the way. I also don't like Dimitri that much. He's written really well, but "Captain America turned edgy loner, now in the process of becoming Captain America again" just isn't my thing. Very well done, amazingly voice acted, but not my thing on a purely subjective level. Verdant Wind (from what I've heard, I'd have to finish it first to say definitively, obviously) is less about the political conflict and more of a separate story about fighting the "real" bad guys, which isn't bad, but Three Houses uses political conflicts in such a compelling way that I just expect... More, I guess. Claude is my favorite house leader, though: fun, quippy, but really smart, with plans on top of plans and a penchant for improvising. I always gravitated to those kinds of characters, and I'd love for Claude's route to be as involved in the war as the other house routes are. I desperately need a fifth route, where all the Houses/political powers come together and fight both Agarthans and the Church before establishing the rules they want on their own territories, not constrained by either the church or a common enemy. Dimitri can have his kingdom and make it a constitutional monarchy in whichever way he wishes, Claude can fight racial inequality and grow his alliance (good for him), and Edelgard gets to have her communist utopia for whatever time she has left. And maybe players get to choose where Byleth decides to live their life in the very end, too... The happiest of endings

    I dislike the writing of CF but I liked the idea of it, in theory. I just wish the writing was better handled.
    The eagles are my second favorite house after the lions. I enjoy most of the eagles students. I think there was wasted potential with them tho, as CF shafted all of them save for Byleth, Edelgard and Hubert. Ferdinand should have had a much larger role in the plot. And the route didn't do enough to show why they stay with Edelgard. Most students say they're just doing it for the professor instead of for Edelgard, which makes the whole route ring false as Edelgard isn't really winning them over if they stayed for Byleth.
    People give CF too much credit for being unique gameplay, but the only unique map in this route was Tailtean plains. Every other map was used in other routes too, such as Arianrhod in Dimitri's paralogue or Fhirdiad in Dimitri's route. Yes, the map objectives and starting positions vary slightly which is a nice change, but they're not as drastically different as people seemingly claim them to be. 3H as a whole just suffers too much from re used maps.

    • @abeefypig
      @abeefypig  Місяць тому +1

      either route the in house units feel shoehorned in mostly. I like to saw it felt the most original gameplay wise yes 3h reuses a lot but skightky changing starting positions and all make it feel different I think it's a change good enought for the reused maps aside from SS and GD being word for word bar for bar.

    • @l.n.3372
      @l.n.3372 Місяць тому +2

      @abeefypig re: the units, it's very different for CF vs the other routes. It makes sense that the lions would defend their homeland, the kingdom. Ditto for the deer and their homeland, the alliance. In SS, the eagles are opposing Edelgard and the empire.
      In AM, they're not fighting FOR Dimitri: they're fighting to defend their homeland. Ditto for VW and the deer. In CF tho, they are invading their former homelands.
      But CF doesn't justify why students would fight their homelands and invade their homelands. After all, Edelgard didn't convince them at all. They joined because of Byleth only.

    • @l.n.3372
      @l.n.3372 Місяць тому +1

      @abeefypig unfortunately yes and that's part of why I dislike the writing in CF. In AM, Felix and the lions constantly say that they don't agree with Dimitri's actions, but the eagles are never allowed to challenge Edelgard. They just blindly do whatever she wants with questioning her morality. She never even tells them the truth about shit like the Agarthans destroying Arianrhod, but she falsely blames the church instead. But Dimitri tells his friends the truth about Edelgard being his stepsister, and he even takes their advice by meeting with Edelgard before the final battle. Dimitri respects his friends with trust in a way that Edelgard never did. Edelgard just wanted Byleth and nobody else.

    What also makes this Route the best and worst Route is Dimitri.
    The whole Argument of the Edelgard-Apologists always has been that Edelgard starts the War and in Return is the only one who gives Power to the People. This has always been untrue, as Dimitri's Ending in FE 3H states "He was known for [...] instituting a new Form of Government in which the People were free to be active Participants." which basicly hints at him instituting a Constitutional Monarchy. Dimitri acts as a Mediator between the Past People are used to and the Future that does them good.
    Edelgard meanwhile is said to have "ensure[d] a free and independent Society for all", but still ends up chosing a Successor herself, meaning that in both Cases, while the People generally get more Power, Power ultimately goes as the Ruler wants to. Edelgard started a continent-wide War to archieve that, worked with the Murderers of her Siblings, of the Faerghus' People killed at Duscur and the Comitters of a literal Genocide against the Nabateans while Dimitri ends up archieving the same Thing doing neither. You could even make the Argument that Edelgard does it worse because she's forcing the People of the Kingdom and Alliance into that Idea while claiming to want to abandon Rulers deciding for the People while Dimitri, while ultimately having the same Goal, is very open about his View that a higher Authority (meaning he himself) is neccessary for that and conquers Adrestia more by Accident while the Alliance joins the Kingdom willingly due to the Lack of a possible Ruler.
    Also, a big Problem of Crimson Flower is how turning against the Church is justified. Edelgards whole Arc is "I hate TWSITD because of what they did to me and my Siblings. I hate the Nobles for allowing it. Church = bad" but it is never really explained how that is and how the Church being bad justifies actively allying with TWSITD who directly caused her and her Family harm, killed the King of Faerghus and his Folowers, creating a political Crisis in Faerghus, are to blame for the Genocide of the Duscur People, for what happens at Remire and also Lysithea's Suffering.

      I think ultimately this is a big problem with 3H's story in general, they really want to make sure that whatever route you choose is objectively the correct route and will bend characters in advance as far as necessary to make sure that happens.
      The one time that I do think it works is with the blue lions. Dmitri needs to get his shit together, so having a supportive figure to guide him would make a huge difference. On other routes, it basically requires us to believe that everybody on a specific side would change their way because of what classes someone took in college.

    Yeah it's kind of sad the best thing I do like about this route is it's the only route I can see myself being able to use almost everyone in maddening mode because I don't have to fear chapter 13 you know the "FORCED DEPLOY WITH NO PREPERATIONS chapter" that if you made the mistake of not leveling up your starting units and are not playing in Iron Man then welcome to hell! I hate it because in the end I get too attached to leveling everyone up so they can survive that chapter that I lose motivation on benching them and well that's what I like about Engage over Three Houses (Calm down HATERS, I said it in a way that means I ALSO have thing I like in 3Houses over Engage! Seriously hate I have to say this to avoid the pathetic waste of time HATEDOM breathing down my neck for DARING to have fun and like something THEY decided needs to be hated like their the KING/QUEEN OF THE WORLD or something) I'm not forced to deploy anyone but the main Lord and I'm not talking about Force deployment where the game forces you to deploy them I'm talking about when the game is going to deploy them because you don't even get Battle preparation on chapter 13 you have to remember to properly equip them or be screwed I mean some characters who could focus on healing like a certain sleepy green healer I can ignore and let his faith raise up as he can heal great, others I can't do that.
    Though Crimson flower does prevent me from using Catherine, well I've always been a Shamir lover anyway. But otherwise I'm free to use everyone but the other Lords and Dedue and Hilda. I am a course sad how short is. To the point that maybe they could have made Liberties to make it longer like in the other routes the empress is already close to winning so why not in Crimson flower because Edelgard is far less rootless and pushy she still has a lot of ground to cover before she can completely win like it was weird how we went from the bridge into the lions to their major port city in dealing with Claude immediately would have been nice if maybe we fought Dimitri earlier instead of getting how his character is by the near Final Chapter basically part 1 of 2 of the end game where we can only guess because you know he didn't get removed from power and when all eyepatch murder hobo so that would have been an interesting story in itself and seriously why leave nemesis on just claude's route maybe he should have always been pretty much the final boss because of how much relevance they put him in him in those who slit her in the dark instead of making it was just a secret Civil War before they were dealt with, The End😅

      On one hand unlike Claude, Edelgard and Dimitri story's likely are meant to be "personal" and The Darkness DUBSTEPPERS are just secondary (To the point I REALLY dislike how they go out, with Dimitri almost NEVER knowing they exist! Seriously loved how Thales went out and Dimitri was "Did we hit something!" That was do to him DYING while still posing as Arundel! But way to make the Villain you were Building up a JOKE! Even Manfroy went out like a Champ before going down! Thales is right there with FUCKING VALIDAR as "Poor attempt at Gharnef" that you can GET in being a letdown! And I actually LOVE when fanfics FIX Validar, I mean people forget the Timetravel and BAD FUTURE means Validar actually WON in Lucina's timeline, he killed Emmeryn before the Ward, Succeed in BADLY injuring Chrom, BOTH twarted by Lucina ONLY because she knew they were going to happen and likely catching on to Robin's indentity then and there too! Note he IMMEDIATLY focuses on Robin during the assassination attempt! But was able to plant the seeds EARLIER due to NOT DYING and needing to be Revived by ALT Grima! Started a war the heroes BARELY won and by the end, even though Chrom and Robin kill him, he succeeds in implanting Grima in Robin, who then KILLS Chrom! So effectively he WON, Would have LOVED to see the FULL details of the alternative timeline leading up to Chrom's Death! That would have been a EXCELLENT DLC Idea, better then SOME of the DLC they made for Awakening, Seriously the Beach was such a WASTE of money, especially if you got it in the NA version which had VERY NEEDLESS censoring! Like serious the women's Swimwear doesn't come CLOSE to what they should be FROTHING from the Mouth screaming "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" for). I'm still abit confused on why CLAUDE is the only one to get them! Seriously I feel those who dub in the night should have been SECONDARY in everyone's route, with Silver Snow being UNIQUE by being where you TACKLE THEM! Crimson Flower being the ONE exception, Seriously Silver Snow should have been a CHOICE for ALL THREE ROUTES instead of Black Eagle. Unlocked ONLY in Dimitri and Claude if you B to A rank Rhea before Chapter 11 where you get the choice. Where Black Eagle remains as is, if you didn't C rank and saw Edelgard becoming Emperor, you don't GET the choice to go Crimson Flower or Silver Snow!
      Three Houses did better then Fates in bettering it's story, but it's still needs ALOT of fixing! (And really never needed Silver Snow because sadly making Byleth a SILENT protagonist came back to HAUNT THEM LOL)
