When I think of Underrated Game Cube titles. The 1st that comes to mind is Custom Robo. Offered a lot of customization for the dedicated players, story had a neat fluctuating tone between chill & serious, but 2 things I always remember about it: Is how Marcia looked like a Blue Hatsune Miku & that Soundtrack has a lot of tracks anyone can loop for hours. Edit: I always forget Marcia(2004) came 1st, which is still insane! Given how big Miku is as a Vocaloid figurehead. I always adored both's parallel design and is what probably 1st made me get into that Genre as a kid.
Despite focusing on underrated games, I appreciate your honesty in still dishing out criticism for these games when you felt they were appropriate. Just because they may be hidden gems doesn't mean they don't have flaws and it helps the praises you delver feel true. I've heard of each of these games but only own Billy Hatcher, Baten Kaitos and Eternal Darkness. I would however like to own Evolution World and what you showed off of P.N.03, Gotcha Force and Kururin Squash also had my interest.
Yeah. Alongside Baten Kaitos, they set the benchmark for what I expect from RPGs with card-based battle systems. I find it funny that all four happened to be released on the Gamecube.
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek 2 is much better than 1 but I still enjoy playing 1. If you plan to play both, definitely start with 1 though. No, it never was. It even averages around 92 on Metacritic. Baten Kaitos around 80 as well. I think maybe the uploader confuses underrated with underappreciated?
Well, it's certainly not underrated today by those who have played it. However, it is underrated in terms of still being a kind of "hidden gem". Hardcore Nintendo fans on the internet were greatly anticipating it but most of the public didn't know about the game because Nintendo under-promoted it, only putting ads on late-night TV and in adult magazines, due to being an M-rated title. If I recall, it only sold over 400,000 copies worldwide, which wasn't bad for a GameCube game but obviously far below what it should have sold. Some game reviewers at the time also scored the game a little lower than it deserved and didn't give the game enough coverage, due to an anti-Nintendo bias of the era. As for Nintendo, they own the IP and have done literally nothing with it except for the spirit and battle in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nightdive Studios, the developer of other remasters like Turok, Doom 64, Shadowman and Quake, recently said they've reached out to Nintendo about an Eternal Darkness remaster but they weren't interested.

It's one of the greatest games ever in my opinion. Btw underrated doesn't mean people didn't like it, just not many knew about it but it deserved more attention
I was lucky to get Baten Kaitos. Most of the time there are games I saw in the GameCube magazine and not knowing how good they were going to become until I brought them. Baten Kaitos is one of the games on this list I was really REALLY happy I picked up during a time when I was juggling high school and having to juggle my budget, only 1 game per holiday and I loved playing this one.
I love Gotcha Force. I played it like crazy back in the day. I have always kept an eye out for something like it, but have yet to find anything close to it.
Gotcha force is so damn good. Probably the most underrated Capcom title. To this day, it's my second favourite game of all time. My friends and I put so many hours into it back in the day. Greatest impulse buy I ever made. If Capcom brought it back with either a remake with online play added or a straight up sequel, my head would explode.
This list immediately starts with one of my favorite and unique fps', honestly wish this game would get a remake or something because it felt like such a good blend of horror and action. Possessing people, animals, objects and whatnot for the objectives and being forced into sections where you have to keep a host alive with monsters and other ghost about making it feel like "Fear" all of a sudden, It's such a cool concept and pulled off pretty nicely. Plus me and my bro played the multiplayer all the time Billy Hatcher also had series potential and a slick/iconic design, would have loved to see how it would have changed with new games. Also the music absolutely banged!
Jesus YES. I still go back and play this game every now and then. One of my favorites Although, both 3 and suicidal tendencies... maybe remake that AI. Lmao.
It is refreshing to see a content creator who's not afraid to appreciate some booty. Nowadays most of them label this kind of thing as "problematic" and quickly change the subject.
Incredible picks, Gotcha Force is always my deep cut underrated gem recommendation and while the story isn't really anything it felt like I was playing the best Saturday morning cartoon game ever.
Billy hatcher, chibi-robo... those are some rare gems never ported to any console and they were great! The list should include custom robo too, but I guess this gotcha force is almost like it xD
I have been trying for almost 3 years to remember what the hell evolution worlds was I rented it once from a local video store. And for some reason I could never forget about this game I played it for like 3 hours.
PN03's biggest flaw is the method chosen for padding the game length, the randomly remixed versions of levels the game asks you to play. The big problem here is that some of the rooms were very clearly *not* designed to be used in such a randomly remixed fashion. This is most obvious with the empty super long rooms, but even the pacing of regular room encounters can suffer when the player is now entering from a different direction.
You didnt mention that billy hatcher is a sega game meaning it has Sonic eggs in MULTIPLAYER. And if you hatch it, a sonic character comes out and theyre the most OP egg monsters
I loved Gotcha Force enough to play through it several times, but it did have several (relatively minor) issues that annoyed me. My biggest annoyance is that borg costs aren't balanced, which is critical for a game built around creating teams within a set point limit. This isn't just the devs (sometimes grossly) misunderstanding the value of a design (like overpricing anything with a transformation option), there are borgs that are flat out inferior to others with that difference not being anywhere near reflected in the price. This stands out even more with the variant materials (gold, silver, clear), which are either straight up better or worse than the basic form. My second biggest annoyance is that the 4 player mode only allows 2v2 battles, and not free-for-alls. My third is that the combining gimmick requires a human partner, both having the necessary borgs available at the same time, and the result still isn't worth it.
Gotcha Force is Pokemon meets Virtual On. It's rough around the edges (voice acting is comically bad and the camera malfunctions, especially against large aerial opponents), but the concept is so much fun that I don't care. There are some boss battles in this game where you think, "Oh, I'm sure that's only for NPCs. It takes up half the arena" and then you find out it can be unlocked and used! What a shame that it didn't catch on more. It could really use a sequel with more refinements and then it'd be a 10/10.
Geist - I'm pretty sure that I have it, but not sure I ever got around to playing it as the GC was my third console of that generation so it got overlooked often. PN03 - While it was kind of bland and easy I still enjoyed it enough to play through it multiple times.
@@thatvideogamesshow hahaha i think most Custom Robo fans will take notice of the similarities between the two. The video is awesome as always, don't worry :)
It is. I think custom robo was overal a bit of a better game due to the story and the controls making a bit more sense, but gotcha force was awesome nonetheless, and had a deeper (yet clunkier) combat. Also, custom robo is more about customizing a single robot whereas gotcha force is more about customizing a team of pre-built toy robots. In custom robo you could walk around the map as in a classic JRPG whereas in gotcha force you just had an overworld map.

And I love the magic system. You combine runes to make spells, and it has meaning. You can create the spell if you have the base runes but without even get the tablet that teaches the character how to. And the sanity system it's original and good. I don't remember any other game that has implemented something similar. And Baten kaitos underrated? I don't have this game, but I wanted to.
I'd like to give an honorable mention to Baten Kaitos Origins, which in my opinion was just as good, if not better than the original. The card system was changed for one that is a bit more complex, revolving around equipment cards + defense and attack cards, which could throw off fans of the original (including myself when I first played it), but it resulted in a combat system that was a bit more balanced, with an overall better story IMO.

Starfox Adventures is the most underrated game of all time. That's not equivalent to calling it the greatest game, but definitely the game with the biggest gap between recognition and quality!
I never understood the hate for it other than being different from what one would expect from Star Fox. It had a few annoying levels near the end and a rather underwhelming ending (felt a bit rushed near the end I must say) but it was a fantastic game overall and a graphical marvel at that. It looked amazing for the time and ran at a smooth 60fps.
@@divagaciones1628 yes , yes and yes. It looks fantastic. The water and fur effects/details are still unmatched today in some games. RaRe outdid themselves with that game!
If Rare was allowed to stick to their original vision for Star Fox Adventures, it would have been remembered as the GameCube's Banjo Kazooie. Instead, because of Miyamoto's infamous meddling, it's remembered as a disappointing Star Fox game.
I picked up Baten Kaitos a long time ago. The game is amazing and lots of fun. To make your experience with it better I suggest turning off the voice acting as it's pretty bad. Like the original Resident Evil bad. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings. Maybe the director chose the wrong takes? 😬
“If only Geist had a couple more months in development” you know this game was originally meant to release in 2003 but got delayed by like 2 years to 2005, right !? So the version you’re playing actually had 24 months more development than it was meant to and it still turned out like this 😂
Try alien shooter! It first made for PC in 2003 than they port it later for Android iOS PlayStation 3 and 4 alien shooter is really fun game the gameplay and soundtracks is awesome! The game is overwhelming positive on steam and 4☆ on ps4 o-O ( kinda unfair cuz this game have 4☆ on PlayStation Store lol)
Geist could've been so much better. Nintendo wanted it to focus on the ghost adventure part while the dev wanted to improve the FPS gameplay. Nintendo could really use a great T or M rated FPS exclusive on Switch today. Conduit 3, please... Eternal Darkness should be remastered. I don't think it needs a sequel, but I'd like to see an RE1 2002 styled Remake done for Eternal Darkness. And RE4 or RE1 Remake are still probably the best games and still got excellent graphics for the GameCube. The GameCube port of Skies of Arcadia could've been included in this list too.
So there's a game out there where you play as a dismembered spirit from it's body that possesses people? That sounds like a demon. Not sure I'd want to play a game like that. However there are some pretty rockin' games talked about here though.

This is weird. I have EVERY one of these games and haven’t played them. I’m watching and saying “I have that” then “I have that”. Then at Eternal Darkness I have it and beat it. Awesome game!!
Haha you have good taste!
@@thatvideogamesshow the mad thing is I put Evolution Worlds in to play this morning then realised my Wavebird had no batteries so had to turn it off. I’ll look forward to playing it though. Great video mate!
Some really great picks here, glad to see more hidden gems get mentioned here like Gotcha Force and such. 👍
Baten Kaitos is my favorite game of all time. P.N.03 us also badass
Gotcha Force seems to be the game before LBX became a thing
A fair few similarities between the two for sure!
Medabots, Robopon, and the manga Plawres Sanshiro would like a word with you, also Custom Robo among others.
Kururin Squash is so good. I loved the gba game and only found out about this import a few years back.
Such a solid game!
Haha yeah the voice acting was not the best for sure 😅
“If only Geist had a couple more months in development”
you know this game was originally meant to release in 2003 but got delayed by like 2 years to 2005, right !?
So the version you’re playing actually had 24 months more development than it was meant to and it still turned out like this 😂
Try alien shooter! It first made for PC in 2003 than they port it later for Android iOS PlayStation 3 and 4 alien shooter is really fun game the gameplay and soundtracks is awesome! The game is overwhelming positive on steam and 4☆ on ps4 o-O ( kinda unfair cuz this game have 4☆ on PlayStation Store lol)
Thanks for the tip man! I’ll check it out 🙂
@@thatvideogamesshow you're welcome man
Great list as always but seriously! A majority of these titles are way to overpriced to buy nowadays.
The prices are just a joke at this point!
@@thatvideogamesshow tell me about it! I picked up killer 7 at london Comic-Con years ago for £8 .
PN03 giving me strong pre-Bayonetta vibes.
Would love to see a modern remake of eternal darkness!
@That Video Games Show, Agreed. As long as they do a proper remake, not a butchered one like Capcom did to RE3 2020.
Did anyone ever play the Chicken Little game? I thought that game so good I was obsessed.
❗️I WISH they re-release 'P.N.03' but with a few QOL changes.
I love this Game and have the original Soundtrack on my Z-Flip 3.
I love soundtrack as well. Some really catchy tunes!
Does anyone no the name of the theme song?
Googled the cost of some of these games... Looks like i might have to mod my gamecube to play roms
So there's a game out there where you play as a dismembered spirit from it's body that possesses people? That sounds like a demon. Not sure I'd want to play a game like that. However there are some pretty rockin' games talked about here though.
Amazing viamazing video thank you
Why do you present all of those games in the incorrect aspect ratio?
It clearly gives a wrong impression on how those games actually look like.
Gotcha Force looks like it plays like Virtual On
Damn it, I want Chibi Robo so bad. But I never got it in 2006 and the prices are around 200 bucks... one day you will be mine...
Such a great little game! Fingers crossed you find a cheap copy man :)
@@thatvideogamesshow Thanks, I hope so too...
@@thatvideogamesshow Probably won't read this, but got to celebrate. I said it will be mine, and now it is. Paid 200 bucks for just the disc, but it's worth it... I finally did it...
Nice video.
Thank you!
Oh my Lord I feel sad so many hidden gems I don't remember seeing like evolution worlds why haven't I seen that game as kid or remember it at all games like this I know I would have love to play now I really want GameCube games on the switch or the next Nintendo console right now fudge this isn't fair lol.
I loved geist
PN 03 had a weird camera
Gotcha Force was awesome
Honestly I’d say people missed out with the GameCube. People looked at it as an under powered children’s console. When in reality it was actually more powerful than the ps2. Plus with games like
Eternal darkness
Metroid prime
Resident evil 1 remake, resident evil 4, cvx, resident evil zero
Melee
Fire emblem path of radiance
Geist
The console was far from kid friendly
Chibi-Robo & Geist Amen. 😌🙏🏻
Damn I wish I gave geist a chance I saw before when I was a kid in game stores the cover looked really cool don't know why I didn't give it a chance I gave Fzero GX and Metroid prime games a chance and love em so no excuse for geist this is why I wish Nintendo would rereleased their first second and 3rd party exclusive GameCube games to the switch or their next console I'll cry with joy the day they announce GameCube games coming to the Nintendo switch best games are on the GameCube.
Bruh, Somebody else knows about Evolution Worlds, SOMEBODY ELSE KNOWS ABOUT EVOLUTION WORLDS!!!!!!!!!!
Wow Baiten Kraitos too, This video was actually gem after gem, but those two were nice surprises not enough people know about.
kururin had a sequel??????
bro the graphics for some of these GameCube games look just as good as Nintendo switch are you use an emulator
Star Fox Adventures might be the best GC exclusive.
PN is basically Bayonetta
