The Gamecube looked better than Wii in my opinion, the games simply had a cleaner over all look. Wii in many ways looked less clean than many jaggy PS2 games.

@That Video Games Show, Yup, would've been so cool if both RE2 1998 and RE3 Nemesis 1999 got the same excellent remake treatment RE1 1996 did. All because GameCube had the family friendly reputation...
I always just had Game Boys, and suddenly I could buy me a tv, a used Gamecube, and Resident Evil 0 en Remake and Wind Waker. Obviously, I was amazed, and never for one second thought Wind Waker was "for kids". But it was the only game of those three I was allowed to play with both my youngest nephew back then and my grandmother watching and actually both enjoying it and even asking to continue playing the next day. Later I played Mario Sunshine with my younger sister, and several years back I gave her a Gamecube with all of the games we used to play back then, which were almost all of the famous first party games, Soul Calibur 2, and several others still (as a collector, I had many doubles when buying someone's collection to fill out my own). Glad I kept my own copies and still have them.

Eternal darkness had really really good bad graphics. Over time I found the game to be beautiful but there are elements of it (character models in particular) that were kind of bad even back then. Still one of my favorite games ever.
I'm curious how you guys capture this high-res footage, I can tell its not emulators. But its widescreen and high res its not just an captured hdmi adaptor to the actual console is it?
According to Factor Five, the Gamecube's GPU was more powerful than the Xbox's. Granted, the Xbox had a superior CPU and more RAM, but the actual graphical power of that gen went to Gamecube.
@@idklol4197 Yup, it's to promote the scan mechanic too. You get used to it quickly and actually the twin stick system wasn't standardised at this point so control systems on 6th gen were the wild west compared to now where most games control the same.
@@darthwiizius was it really to promote scanning or did form dictate function? Upon reflection, I seem to only remember four directional inputs allowed in games like melee, sunshine, and wind waker. The c stick was not an analog stick so retro studios had to work around that.
@@idklol4197 The C-stick is an analogue it just doesn't have a dome top because the twin stick format wasn't standardised at that time, which is odd as it was unveiled in Goldeneye first(yes UA-camrs it didn't come from that Aliens game on PS first) by using 2 N64 pads at once. Metroid was built as a first person adventure not a first person shooter so the scan mechanic was critical for learning the world and lore. Fun fact: Samus' suit was the highest polygon model created in the 6th gen and is fully rendered at all times because it was the only way to animate the transition in and out of ball mode smoothly.
I couldn't afford a PS2 back in the day, Resident Evil 4 being an exclusive made it worth owning a GameCube for me. I wasn't a fan of the visuals in Wind Waker either but then I played it. Now it's one of my favorite Zelda titles of all time. One of my favorite GameCube games was Turok Evolution.

I know game graphics have vastly improved since, but i think Metroid Prime series still looks fantastic. I'd be totally happy still playing games of that quality but with modern gameplay & norms. The artists still had plenty of space to express themselves and that's what matters.
Nice vídeo, as always. My take on Zelda: Nintendo didn’t know how to read the room back then. Everybody was expecting the “adult” Zelda game in the same style of the demo at Shoshinkai . If Nintendo had release an “adult” Zelda before the Wind Waker, Wind Waker would have made the splash they were aiming for.

@@_lean_mean_dean_ yup. I remember seeing it in a old gaming mag she even touted a gun. I think PNO3 was wasted potential. Capcom changed it for the worst.
GC could put 4 times the polygons on screen compared to the PS2 with way more advanced textures and lighting, it could also double the output of the OG Xbox but Nintendo were punished for being honest about their specs where MS just pulled a number out of their arse and Sony just halved the Number. The highest polygon count on an Xbox title was 10 million at 30FPS at the end of cycle where Rogue Squadron 2 was a launch title pushing 15 million at 60FPS while still running it's full suite of lighting effects which were still more advanced than Xbox's if only slightly.
Whenever I see its release date as 2002, I always end up saying to myself "How?". The prerendering and lighting techniques are a given, but the artistic direction alone is pretty much akin to the old painterly and sculpting masters being given game development tools. I'd argue the visuals stand the test of time because of timeless artistic principles. The console's graphical capabilities are evident, though aren't reason enough.
The gamecube had more memorable games then PS2 because they put so much effort into the graphics and overall fun factor Resident evil 1 still looks amazing to this day and when RE4 was ported to the PS2 it was the weakest port and Super mario sunshine is so much fun.
The Resident evil remake looks identical to the HD release. 😳😵 Saddens me that I won't easily be able to experience GameCube games the way it were intended. Gamecube was not available in 🇿🇦. Still hoping to one day get a Wii U and be able to play GameCube games in HD. Edit: "Wind waker is like marmite, you either love it or hate it" I like cell shaded games, but not marmite, I prefer Boveril. 😂
Rogue Squadron 3 should be here instead of 2, for starters it features a split screen version of 2 and some of the rehashed levels - the escape from Hoth being the best example, are mind blowing for the shear number of enemies if nothing else. Plus you get the best speeder-bike chase ever! Sure the games not as good but...
I just started playing it for the first time tonight. Even using standard composite cables into a 4k tv, it looks surprisingly good. Add in the blistering speed and this game must have blown people away on its release.
I never loved cell shaded but its was well implemented in most cases, Mario being the worse mostly because all levels are "beachy" so they all look the same to me, also lots of 3rd parties went for the realistic but very styled graphics, that helps lower the load on the system while still keeping really good visuals. These days developers and people focus too much in hyper realism and at the end we get games that are not optimized, running at resolutions that are too low for modern screens and choppy resolutions. They are supposed to games, styled, fun, fluid not movies.
*it was *the worst (opposite of "best") worse = opposite of "better" *me. Also, lots (to fix your comma splice run-on) *graphics. That (another comma splice) *These days, developers *focus too much _on_ *hyperrealism *supposed to be games: styled *fun, and fluid. Not

Geist was another one. Plus a fun and interesting FPS. Definitely a hidden gem for the Gamecube.
The RE1 Remake on GameCube still looks great today!
I agree, but I really think you missed Starfox Adventures. Furr and Grass detail was insane at that time. Overall LOD was super strong.
Part 2 in the works 🙂
Resident Evil: Zero, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, and Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.
Definitely great additions.
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes = Beast of a Game!!
Star fox adventures looked amazing
My hidden gem in graphics is Hot Wheels: World Race! The game looks so good, especially in Dolphin.
According to Factor Five, the Gamecube's GPU was more powerful than the Xbox's. Granted, the Xbox had a superior CPU and more RAM, but the actual graphical power of that gen went to Gamecube.
I played thru mp trilogy on wii, how do you aim the camera on the gamecube? With the c stick?
No camera control on Gamecube, you have a lock on targeting system with the R button
@@antm6970 thats crazy, no aim for a first person shooter
@@idklol4197
Yup, it's to promote the scan mechanic too.
@@idklol4197
The C-stick is an analogue it just doesn't have a dome top because the twin stick format wasn't standardised at that time, which is odd as it was unveiled in Goldeneye first(yes UA-camrs it didn't come from that Aliens game on PS first) by using 2 N64 pads at once.
A lot of these games run at progressive scan if you have hd adapter they look even more amazing
Yes on wii too
Great video all of these games were great! So much nostalgia
Thanks Josh!
Man Turok Evolution was so good!
@@thatvideogamesshow I rented Turok 64 from my local hang out spot every weekend when I was a kid. When I found out Turok Evolution was coming, I knew it was a must have. I still prefer it over Turok 64 and the 2008 release.
@@Cautious_Gamer
Night Dive studios remastered Turok from the N64 onto the PC, it's great. They also did Forsaken and have left the aesthetic mostly like the N64 version but it now has all the content of all versions in one package, loved Forsaken64 though the techno tunes mean my neighbours bloody hated it. 😁
That the video start with one of my favorites games, that i still have now on day, was a gladly sorprise.
Good job over there, keep in on
You drive nicely. Super playlists. Load as many categories of this type as possible. For example, game genres for a given console :)
i think most Gamecube games can look really good if used the the ultra rare component cable
There are alternatives such as the Gamecube hdmi adapter and playing them on the Wii using component cables.
Yep I know it looks better than playing with Wii components. Even Monster Svideo on the actual GV looks better than playing GC games on Wii with Monster Components
@@realamericannegro977
Scart was even better, and yes I do own the monster Svid, I used it on my N64, but you never got RGB in the States. Finding a decent RGB cable was a pain though because despite what UA-camrs say now the official Ninty RGB cable is shit.
Great video and great choices. If you do a part 2 I recommend Star Fox Adventures, Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil Zero
For sure, part 2 is in the works 🙂
Star Fox Adventures was very impressive. It was the first time you can see foxes full of hairs and the gound full of grass.
Loved Eternal Darkness, my 100%ed game save still works to this day. 😀. If RE remake had a control system like ED:SR it would have been a lot better. Fun fact: If you have an Action Replay you can play Code Veronica on the Cube as an actual 1st person shooter.
Great video agree gamecube power will always be remember in the games that change the video game industry! From horror survival genre to the open world exploration to racing at 480p 60 fps!
I have a big void in my life that only F-Zero could ever fill. Man, I love GX so much.
Really appreciate these videos bruv, thank you for making them 👍🏽❤️
I might be the only one to say this, the tekken 2 music sounded so refreshing
That's the first time I've ever seen footage of Resident Evil Remake. I'm actually really, really surprised those are still pre-rendered backgrounds!
Re4 just looks amazing especially the light reflections when you shoot in dark areas and also in lightened areas
I know game graphics have vastly improved since, but i think Metroid Prime series still looks fantastic. I'd be totally happy still playing games of that quality but with modern gameplay & norms. The artists still had plenty of space to express themselves and that's what matters.
Love my GameCube I also have the carby hdmi adapter which makes the graphics even better hd quality.
I saw Vanessa and I clicked. Seriously, she still looks impressive. The consept could work in modern times with some improvements.
I believe Mikami repurposed ideas from the game for the game Vanquish. You might want to give it a try.
@@_lean_mean_dean_ Interesting. I'm waiting reasonable price for Bayonetta in PS store , maybe should look Bayonetta & Vanquish double pack for reasonable price.
@@_lean_mean_dean_ yup. I remember seeing it in a old gaming mag she even touted a gun. I think PNO3 was wasted potential. Capcom changed it for the worst.
Finally P.N. 03 gets some recondition. I loved that game back in the day.
Resident Evil 0 and 1 is the only reason why i have a GameCube.
It’s probably one of the main reasons a lot of people picked one up. That remake was amazing!
Of these I have Soul Calibur 2, and Resident Evil 4 only.
P.N.03 looked interesting despite the poses and things the character does while fighting.
AMAZING Channel I really like you editing style and you Voice Acting :D:D:D:D
Great choice on opening music segment (from Tekken 1 CGI intro I believe) 👍
Man l used to underestimate the GC as kid😑. Now l regret it. I really missed out. Great video as usual👌
Thanks Tmax! The GameCube is so underrated man, if you can get your hands on one now… it’s well worth it!
P.N.03 is bayonetta before bayonetta
Bringing me back in time with every video; thank you
Glad you enjoy the videos ! 🙂
What technique did you use to upscale the games?
PN03 need a remaster, remake or sequel
I approve this message!
I had PN03 back in the day & was not impressed; the controls sucked the gameplay sucked.. Good graphics doesn't mean a good game.
Its insane how good RE remake looks even today man, absolutely amazing
Whenever I see its release date as 2002, I always end up saying to myself "How?". The prerendering and lighting techniques are a given, but the artistic direction alone is pretty much akin to the old painterly and sculpting masters being given game development tools. I'd argue the visuals stand the test of time because of timeless artistic principles. The console's graphical capabilities are evident, though aren't reason enough.
@@Hibernial indeed! Pure eye candy
The gamecube had more memorable games then PS2 because they put so much effort into the graphics and overall fun factor Resident evil 1 still looks amazing to this day and when RE4 was ported to the PS2 it was the weakest port and Super mario sunshine is so much fun.
Totally agree man, it was home to so many great games!
I highly disagree with the GameCube having more memorable games that the PS2.
@@Doofunator ditto
Ratchet series
Jax series
Sly series
God of war
Champions of norrath
Are just some of my all time favorites for ps2 and that gen.
Twitter would have a meltdown over a thong girl game nowadays.
I think it would end up like Nier Automata
You know it
not only graphically but they are all around great games
Totally agree!
The Resident evil remake looks identical to the HD release. 😳😵
Saddens me that I won't easily be able to experience GameCube games the way it were intended. Gamecube was not available in 🇿🇦.
Still hoping to one day get a Wii U and be able to play GameCube games in HD.
Edit: "Wind waker is like marmite, you either love it or hate it"
I like cell shaded games, but not marmite, I prefer Boveril. 😂
The HD version is the GC remaster just tweaked for HD output.
One out of them all: F-ZERO GX 😱
Hard to believe it's from 2003! It looks like a much newer generation game 😍🔝
I just started playing it for the first time tonight. Even using standard composite cables into a 4k tv, it looks surprisingly good. Add in the blistering speed and this game must have blown people away on its release.
do you know the name of the soundtrack for resident evil 4 in this video ?
I personally had the PS2 and not the GC, but I've always been impressed with the games on the GC
I like your tone of voice, great video !!!!
Thanks! 🙂
Great video TVGS
P.N.03 sure did present itself well visually (looking respectfully).
Windwaker was such an amazing game. I hope they port it over to the switch.
I played a lot of GC games on my Wii and I gotta say Resident Evil Zero and Mario Sunshine were my favorite.
Great games!
Your work is gold. Thx!
Thanks Enid!
*it was
*the worst (opposite of "best")
worse = opposite of "better"
*me. Also, lots (to fix your comma splice run-on)
*graphics. That (another comma splice)
*These days, developers
*focus too much _on_
*hyperrealism
*supposed to be games: styled
*fun, and fluid. Not
Big gamecube fan. Have a boxed console plus a open one. Missing killer 7 but have the rest of the games and I fully agree with your video. Awesome little system.
You have to play it, it's Suda's masterpiece and THE most adult game of the 6th gen.
@@darthwiizius I will source one now your absolutely right.
I can’t think of anything that looked better than resident evil remake or resident evil 0 on the game cube. Those 2 games were the only reason I got the game cube. At the time those games were still game cube exclusives.
Thank you for such a great video! I love Gamecube! But never have it in my childhood. Thanks God WiiU can run Gamecube's games!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm playing wind waker on a 49p TV and it looks too good to be a 2003 game I'm surprised how it looks with the component cable
Still holds up incredibly well!
Still the best console to this day.
I’ll second that!
I consider Go! Go! Hypergrind to be a very good looking game. I mean the cell shading still looks gorgeous!
I wonder if there are devs creating games for GCN as they are for N64 and other consoles..
Dat P.N. booty doe! XD
😅
I need to know what the opening song is. I think it's from Tekken??
Can’t argue with this list !👏👏👏👏👏
I have Wii and Xbox to, some games GameCube kick ass Xbox games!! GameCube was strong because most games run offline internet, that reason high frame rate, great textures
