I didn’t expect the engine room cam but that was a brilliant decision. That VP185 sounded like a 2 cylinder Gardener engine before the other 10 pistons roared to life.
Great to see that some of the EMR units are still around. I might've even ridden this one to and from Sheffield when it was in service! Definitely miss how comfortable they were!
Feels weird to be seeing this train on a heritage line. Used to catch these regularly with EMT/EMR within the last couple of years until they canned them. Still sporting the Stagecoach (East Midlands Trains) livery but with an East Midlands Railway tag on the side as these were taken out of service shortly after EMR took over from EMT. Are those Hull Trains carriages at the back?
Hi Michael that is correct EMR took their VP185ed Power Cars out of service and then used cascaded vehicles from LNER, which included MTUed Power Cars. The coaches we have here are all EX LNER MK3s!
I hope one day, before they nail me in a wooden box and set fire to me- or feed me to the worms- to visit Kings Cross one last time and hear a Paxman powered HST start up... (Valenta preferred if Project Miller achieves its great aim, but a VP* if not). To those who haven't heard the sound of a Paxman starting up under the shed roof, it's like being in the Royal Albert Hall with a Symphony Orchestra. *Does anyone else remember the VP185 originally being called 'Ventura'? And yes I know that's an historic name of a previous generation of Paxman too.
@@alan2804 it would certainly be a problem if the power unit was damaged this was just its first start after a couple of years of being sat there static, so hence the smoke and run up time
I love how it starts up like its doing a slow tap dance 🕺
Theres nothing better than this listening to the start of these to brighten your day.

I most likely went on a commissioning trip on it before passengers even had a look. Marvellous machines then. Still the best now.
Excellent video. Glad to see she started ok after being out of service for a good while. :)
Cheers mate! Hope you are keeping well :)
@@BOBPTransportVideos no worries. I'm doing good thanks. How about you? :)
Waking Sleeping Beauty. Im sure i would feel the same after not being woken for nearly 3 years. Lovely Machine

Looks like that engine needs a major overhaul.
Was it’s first start since storage runs like a dream now!
@@BOBPTransportVideos glad to hear it, cant stand these “cold start” videos in general
