Excellent video!! Beautiful screaming sounds and definitely Intercity travels best time!! I live in Plymouth and its amazing how unchanged the station is since the 90s!!
I love the sound of that Turbo of these iconic trains. I would love to have a driver experience on one of these in the future. Thanks for the video share. I would be glad to buy a copy on DVD.
No dvd version, I did a VHS version here ua-cam.com/video/Pv2rEQN3nPo/v-deo.html Currently in the process of remastering this and others to 4k Can now get better quality on UA-cam than DVD
Exact type of 125 nottingham train station circa 1989-1990 age 3 or 4 i remember the size the monstrous sound and power thatll never ever be forgotten 😊
We used to listen to these things thundering through Laira Junction ( from Laira Ave).....that double shriek made the hair on your neck stand up - i,ll never forget it 🙂
Awesome! Thanks for uploading, this brings back so many memories although from a different area. I was remembering how the exhaust deposits would make a mess of the trailing power car windscreen when I saw the bloke with the brush and soapy water.
I absolutely love the livery of the Intercity HSTs, the Red black white and yellow. It looks fantastic! Not like after privatisation, multicoloured monstrosities.
i was in edinburgh yesterday at haymarket and saw an hst (sadly not a valenta) but it had a bird in the horn bit grille between the headlights. it mustve been a painful way to go for that bird
I’m not much of a train buff, but I remember these powering out of Southampton during my Uni lectures hearing them scream, gave me chills. Question though. I read the HST only had 1 power car and the opposite end was empty. But every video I’ve seen, both ends are screaming? Can anyone explain? Thanks!
First departure shown - no red warning lights to rear power car? Forgot to activate or faulty perhaps? Either way, i expect heads would roll for that today!
I lived in South Devon 1993-2001. I wish I'd spent more time at Totnes watching these beasts flying past. Or at Newton Abbott listening to them pull away. Ah well
Screaming nuisance, too rough on the eardrums by far! were never the ideal choice, ill thought out to be that noisy. The Mirlees replacement engines being less audibily offensive, and more well suited to the task.
Iam from Plymouth and as a youngster i remember these trains, noise was incredible, turbo screaming and noise ill never forget
What a sensory overload with all that noise, brake smells, wafts of diesel, vibrating platform, thumping in your chest, awesome! Thankyou for sharing
Thanks Mark, should be more to come soon

This is really Heaven there is no other words that can describe this Wonderful story and memory of Great HST jet sound 😊😂🎉😮😊

They were designed and built in Britain.
Now all is coming from abroad.
Sad
Great video. Best livery on the HST’s was the ‘swallow’ livery in my opinion.
Agree with that, the white and yellow
The "Executive" livery was my fave, although the "swallow" logo mixed with the Executive look would have been cool.
The white and redstripe was awesome in general
The GWR green doesn't look terrible either
Nor does it look great.. Virgin was good. @pokeboi5438
Fantastic to see this, I was a huge train fan as a kid and this is exactly the era I remember. Thanks!

Wonderful video featuring a train I took many times. Thank you for posting this one. As with all your videos it is superb.

Best quality video from this era I've seen. The HD remastering is brilliant. Goes without saying the subject matter is top drawer too.
Thanks paul, should have more Valenta action in thecomming months

That is such an amazing sound 😃!

Definitely a power car at each end
2x2250hp
The trailing power car was controlled by the lead powercar
Noisy, smoky, glorious.
Yep, classical days. Not long to their demise now sadly.
What can you say? Superb. Thanks! I'm still old school blue and yellow HST livery - theres a photo of me somewhere in front of one at York in 1982
Should have move hst action to come soon Nick
Plymouth station is in a residential area with houses not far from the station.
This is the very train that saved British Rail. Literally. Nothing else quite like it ever again. The new fangled Class 800 is NOT a High Speed Train!
6:08 - he's determined to depart in style.
First departure shown - no red warning lights to rear power car? Forgot to activate or faulty perhaps? Either way, i expect heads would roll for that today!
Sad days for the hst and 747

@@OlafProt good times, there’s a great video someone did here of a Valenta leaving Totnes

wow
Nice video. Was anything done to try stop the build up of dirt on the top of the power car?
A deflector was fitted by the time this video was done, even worse when they first came out in the 70s
I wonder if the people in the houses adjacent to the station loved or loathed those Valenta's 😂
Uu love it❤
Legendary trains.
Indeed - should be more to come over the next few weeks
Probably a daft question but why did they change the power units from the great Valenta?? Great video.
Efficient and emissions I think
There's no apostrophe in "Valentas" the plural - YamYam get re-editing it's more than slightly embarrassing you don't know this :-)
VERY NICE VIDEO, TOM FROM HUNGARY 🙏🙏🙏❤🤍💚
@@TamasKiss-bv9hz thanks Tom, I’ll try and keep the hst videos coming
