    Is it me or it really matters who they sit next to? The brunette woman next to the pastor (bald guy) has definitely laughed more in other episodes. The pastor sucks the life out of all jokes. And then there is Benny, anyone next to him always laughs more. Great dude.

    the psychotic man ghost spiders joke wasnt unnacceptable, it just didnt hit, like if it had been a simpler thing like because he didnt know how he was on the side he was originally on anyway or something like that, it would be funnier, it wasnt hard hitting or offensive it just wasnt cognizant.

    • @Ekitchi0
      @Ekitchi0 5 років тому +5

      Yeah, I didn't get the joke. I'm not a native English speaker, so I'm sometimes lacking the references or vocabulary.

    • @willythemailboy2
      @willythemailboy2 5 років тому +10

      @@Ekitchi0 Yeah, the joke fell flat not due to the mental health aspect of it but the ghost spiders bit. The fear was disturbing enough that it sucked the humor out of the rest of the joke. Something like an invisible ax wielding clown chasing him would have actually been funny.

    • @CiruPlays
      @CiruPlays 5 років тому +6

      @@willythemailboy2 no it's not really that, either, i just felt like the joke was too crowded, too much to think about at once, it's like saying "why did the chicken cross the road" and then saying "well, chickens are complex creatures capable of many ideals of thought, one might say that they would cross the road due to an innate sense of need to feed, or for many other reasons" like it's not funny XD

    The joke about suicide was on point. As men we have trouble dealing and talking about our depression, by external imposition or from ourselves internally. In many cases people only realize someone was suffering because they've found a body and a note. It was a funny-ish joke that brings awareness.

    I'm a man with clinical depression, and I've been suicidal throughout my life. I found the corpse joke hilarious, because it's true. As Adam said, talking about it and joking about it can really help. Don't worry about offending us, it's better to joke about depression than to have to hide it away like a dirty secret.

    I enjoyed watching a few of these CTL. Having a conversation allows to deconstruct emotions and allows participants to see that the comedian is really a human being.
    In many ways a comedian can dictate emotions but participants take the chance of riding the emotional rollercoaster in the hopes of being entertained.
    I like these insights!

    One of the biggest things I have taken from this series is how much a person's reaction is actually not about what they personally think about the joke, but actually what they think the person next to them thinks about the joke. On so many occasions the determining factor as to whether an audience member has laughed or not has been (quite evidently from their own involuntary facial reactions) what they see in the face of the person their sitting next to. A joke is told, their face twitches towards mirth, they look at the person sitting next to them and if they don't see a mirrored enjoyment of the joke they immediately put a lid on their own response.
    I think you'd get very different results from individuals if the same (or equivalent joke) was told to them when they sat with someone else or if they sat alone. People have become so restrained by their perception of how others perceive them that we, as a society, are losing our ability to laugh - this is likely contributing to many of society's mental health issues today due to the anxiety related to the continuous thought process asking "what does that person think of me and will I get attacked if I give the wrong reaction - but I don't know what the correct reaction is."

    It’s crazy to me that these questions even come up among adults. Comedians are supposed to be funny. If you don’t think they’re funny, don’t watch them. That’s it. Your feelings and personal experience are exactly that-yours, which is often synonymous with irrelevant. Everyone else can’t be expected to accommodate you. If comedy offends you, find another form of entertainment because if you do have a “line” it is most certainly going to be crossed. Grow up and have a nice day.
