Incredible job, guys! I expected nothing less from the best of the best in the editing world. Thanks so much for having me on! My mom is gonna crack up at that video of her in a Poo Emoji costume dancing to Madonna. Really appreciate the opportunity to nerd out on a topic I'm so passionate about. Hope we can connect again soon! 🥰 -Amy
5:01 sound is the icing on the cake 5:40 pattern interrupts refocus attention 9:40 audio is essential for creating an emotional world for your audience 11:55 ppl love to learn without ppt 13:27 find moments in editing that tickle you
The thing about being an editor of talking head videos is that you are not just an editor, you are also a scriptwriter in mind, conceptualizing the visuals, effects, (that could have been in the script in the first place) and where to put them. You becamea graphic designer too, animator, motion graphic artist etc hahah sometimes you also became a researcher and a meme finder. But I guess, that is the part where we practiced our creative license so yeah
This was probably my favorite episode yet. All the things Amy talked about were so relatable and applicable. I loved that you all brought up the amount of time it takes to find assets to add into your videos. Feel like that aspect of editing is never fully appreciated, and the fact that she is so comfortable with motion graphics is insanely underrated. I hope this episode gets some love.
I love the little points you add, "pattern interruption is any visual change & re-focuses a viewers attention" i need to start noting these down, so easy to forget these things when you are actually editing
Fantastic interview. So many great tips. The secret really is to finding a rhythm that works. Once you have this, the rough cut becomes really quick. Now it’s the b-roll and overlays that take up most of my time with editing my own videos. That said, I have also found that it really does wonders to have one or two parts in a video where viewers need to pause to take in information. (The Easter eggs.)
This is 100% my style of video! Once I added humor into my videos, I grew pretty fast. Especially talking about the housing market, real estate, finance. Awesome video! I can relate.
Yeah, but honestly, their ads are specific to editors. And I love them. They're just as informative as the rest of the video. That music service looks awesome! I'm kinda over Epidemic sound. 😂
SO much value here. No wonder she edits for the titans of their respective niches. It's taken so many years to WANT to accelerate my mograph learning. Videos like this inspire that. 10/10 and subscribed to her channel. Also, the struggle of what to 'templatize' is REAL.
Love this. I haven’t seen a “talking head” focused video before from you guys or Hayden’s channel. Although I love the content that you guys discuss with Hayden’s experience with Logan Paul, it doesn’t translate perfectly for talking head videos. Not saying it doesn’t at all. Since sound specifically, is universal and adds that emotion.
thinking about the inception of the guy editing this to be a good talking head video about somebody talking about how to edit a good talking head video has my brain hurting
I love @AwkwardAnthems work with @LegalEagle. How do you find all of the legal documents that Devin quotes and how do you do the highlighting in the same time that uses to read the quote from the documents?
I legit thought this was for the band The Talking Heads and you for some reason got the editors from those music videos on the show. I legit ignored it until I saw legal eagle when I looked closer.
0:26 I knew I had to resign from a long-term editing job when editing various videos made me bored so much, there was no soul in them, the numbers went down, and nobody listened to this exact advice she's giving in the intro. if the editor gets bored, the audience FOR SURE will be bored.
Nice video, I'm thinking of eventually creating a talking head type channel about productivity, fitness and stuff like that (when I'm bored of gaming and don't want that anymore) so already learning about that is really useful.
Thank you for this interview! Talking heads may not be sexy, but they take a lot of editing skill to keep viewer retention, and she had some fantastic tips. It’s also great to see a female voice in the mix, it gives me hope that I can get good at this too…❤
Great podcast, learned a lot from her and the gents 👌 heads up, the chapters/timestamps make it hard to skip back 10 seconds on mobile devices. Sometimes I’ll want to go 10 seconds back and it’ll take me to the beginning of the chapter.
A great video indeed. I had started to lose focus in the middle of the video though, but later on you caught my attention back, and the last summary points were great too.
@AwkwardAnthems what software are you using when have the photos and graphics that Devin is talking about in his videos? I really love the graphics. They're so distinct.
It would be nice a podcast on how edit a video without face, like film analysis or education videos, because is really hard to give that type of videos a storytelling on the edit.
Would love to see you guys get Mudan on here. He’s the editor for the Trash Taste podcast (the #1 podcast on UA-cam). He also edits for a few big streamers, UA-camrs and Vtubers. I feel like he would have a wealth of information to share
I definitely go back as a viewer and pay attention to where I feel the urge to grab my phone or other thoughts starts to creep in to know the areas I need to address. Granted giving the focus of my videos is usually travel there generally isn't much I can change in post that wouldn't make the issue even more jarring so I tend to just CUT more.
This is giving me liiiiiiife! I started making my own work videos instead of using powerpoint and Zoom. I work at a college and everyone's tired of a 15 minute dull readthrough of a PowerPoint. Thank you!!! Please consider getting Mudan next!
What im wondering is... how is it possible to use all these movies scenes etc? I mean... thats copyrighted right? How does that work on youtube then? Or is it allowed to use snippets?
Me eating this like 🥢🌯🍬🍮🥚🫒🥖🥔🍦🍛 Editing is definitely its own philosophy and art form. riverside, creative juice, and track club ads all in one video? great video guys, but a bit confused about the 3-for-1 there, wondering if you could offer any insight into that decision, especially since your target demo are editors and certainly there was some creative consideration to make when making that decision. guessing those ads were supposed to be made in march and rolled over into april? cheers 🍻

You're awesome Amy.
@Faan Ross Thanks so much! 🌻
Holy the insight I got here is incredible!
Inspiring me to up my game ridiculously. Thank you for this!! ❤
you're so eloquent! Can listen to you talk about editing all day, just subscribed and hope one day for these guys to interview me lol
This came out 10 days ago. Dang! seems like I am behind the YT times! LOL. Nice interview and good info.

Thank you. A 60 second video they stretched to 20 minutes.
Ironically they used ZERO of the tips they highlighted. 😂
@@AllisonRoadWest it is a podcast, you don't even know what a "podcast" is, do you?
The rest is just ads and "What... you don't have a staff?!"

you’re packing so much valuable insights in your episodes! 🙌😎
thanks so much for taking the time to make them. You guys rock! 🤘😎

Is no one going to talk about the comedic genius at 8:14, I died 🤣 props Jordan 👏
for video editors, its scary how youre comfortable putting 2 minutes of ads right in the middle
Yeah, but honestly, their ads are specific to editors. And I love them. They're just as informative as the rest of the video. That music service looks awesome! I'm kinda over Epidemic sound. 😂
This podcast is so helpful to me even as a beginner content creator and editor, I learn so much. Thanks for the quality guest and interview.

I remember seeing her first video when she left LegalEagle, so cool to see how far Amy has come
Like so many small YT channels, I wish I could afford a video editor, but this helps so much for me figuring out what to do myself. Thanks!
Let's goooo the best Podcast is back!
great episode, guys !! At first I thought she is the actor from the movie Smile.
I would love to find an editor like Amy.
Omgeeee Awkward Anthem Any is my hero! Now I know there's at least one person out there who can make my video visions come to life!! 🎩✨🎨
It really the best podcast for simple editor like me,
Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Amy, Hayden, Jordan, Tyson and Ashley! Raza :)
This was a fantastic interview! Amy has such insightful answers and shows us why she’s the best at what she does. Love it!
This video was absolute gold!
Damn there are more ads in this video than there is useful information
With all the advice i got from you i reached More than 1 million Views. thanks a lot guys
She is so pretty 🥺
So valuable and informative! Thanks!
Amy is so knowledgable and talented. As the editor for Attorney Tom I aspire to be as good as she is.

Glad you found it helpful, Diane! 💛
I disagree, I think David Byrne was very sexy in Talking Heads!! 😏 Sexier than the Beatles, One Direction and BTS.
Great video
Where are you pulling your movie quotes from and how are you searching for there 😊
Thank you!
Great podcast, learned a lot from her and the gents 👌 heads up, the chapters/timestamps make it hard to skip back 10 seconds on mobile devices. Sometimes I’ll want to go 10 seconds back and it’ll take me to the beginning of the chapter.
Good video for the type of content I make!
Great interview. I like her style of talking head editing.
This was such a great episode!
Learned a ton from this. Thank you
What an episode 🔥

i love how happy hayden looks when she’s talking 😊
Thanks to this video I know that I make "talking head videos"
I love her! She's to protected. 🙏🏾
using adobes audio enhance on this episode i hear 👂👀
Editors are creators.
Omar from Think Media?! Dude, I'm such a fan. Cool to see you here! 🙌
This is amazing ❤
Just wondering, as they’ve included clips from The Simpsons, Scrubs … what about copyright? How is this handled?
This is SO helpful..no one ever talks about talking head editing like this. Thank you!
"Add Easter Eggs" i like that Advice 👍
You edit together an episode from a video conference without using the video conference footage. Rebels.
What a great episode! I learned so much. Thank you guys (and Amy, of course ❤)
wait for the viral!! thanks a lot🔥
i am also learning to edit and these videos are gonna help alot
Definitely what I needed! Thank you for this 🎉
Sick one boys

Did u guys use audio AI enhancement for your interview?
Hey, guys, how about a pod with Jhonny Harris??
This may be small but Amy’s camera angle is 🔥 When she started speaking, I was like 👀
Well done.
Maybe dumb question but where do editors of Amy's magnitude source their movie/tv clips & memes from?
And following up to that, is it legal to use movie clips or in your video?
@@DannyFengAs long as it falls under fair use, yeah
+1 wanna know too
Following as well!
@@DannyFengof course its legal. These are free videos not ads.
I love this podcasThing
Interview the oompaville's editor
Great video, I wish that someday I will have a better pc to incorporate better motion graphics in my videos. But good tips overall!
Amazing video guys, Thank you for sharing those insights.
im not only doing motion graphics and all that in ae, i edit full videos there xD
What im wondering is... how is it possible to use all these movies scenes etc? I mean... thats copyrighted right? How does that work on youtube then? Or is it allowed to use snippets?
I love your work, One day I will meet you guys
For editing podcast lack of synchronization between sound and video is even funny(watch guest abt 8min in)
You guys rock- very helpful!
What kind of mic did Amy use, pleassssssssse?
Love this, this is what I’ve been looking for. How to do talking head videos better, but different. This was really helpful.
This is really useful! Thank you 🙌✨
Great tips!
incredibly helpful video. keep it up!
Awesome video!!

I wish services with various assets would be cheaper so I don't need to do everything myself which means low velocity of publishing...
How do you find and add in footage from a TV show? Also, do you need rights for this?
Yall should do a video on the expenses of a podcast
