I'm a Professional Comicbook artist for about three years now.
But from time to time, I still come back to Mark's vids and listen to his homey voice while I draw.
The same voice that taught me all those lessons ten years ago.
I wasn't fortunate enough to learn art from school but I've had the best mentor.
I don't know why but I can't help my tears from falling as I write this.
Thank you so much, Mark. I'm living my dream life in large part because of you.
You made the difference in my life.

"Dont fight me box!" laughted so hard thank you Mark for just being you and for this video! Ordering from Europe as soon as possible!! As a fan and follower for years I am so excited for this!! I even skipped the video when the 3rd character pop up so I wont spoil it for me!! Loving the story so so much the fact that it is part biographical makes it even better and centered to artists speaks to my soul! Lets not get started about the artwork your hard work paid of, its superb, it gives life to the characters in a way I havent seen before! It was made by hand people! I mean come on! No more words left for me to say! 🤯

    I love these girls
So far it looks like a very simple yet wholesome comic that gives insight into these two girls lives and I'm all for it. Heartwarming stories are always a big plus to me.

You guys, you've gotta pick up this story. I got the Kindle version of it since I'm running out of space for the all books I own, but I may just end up buying a physical copy anyway. HOLY CRAP! This story is BEAUTIFUL, inside and out, from the art to the story! I'm absolutely stunned at how Mark's style of art and writing has evolved so much over the years. If I were to read Miki Falls or Brody's Ghost and then this, but not know who the artist was, I would've thought that MLSWC was by a different artist. To be clear, I still enjoyed his earlier works, but this . . . this right here. OMG. I CONNECTED with this story and with these characters. OMG. I haven't felt this deeply moved by a story, regardless of format or media, in a LONG time. I could honestly go on for a while gushing about this masterpiece, but I'll leave it here. If you're an artist or some other kind of creative, you won't regret picking this up. And even if you're not a creative, I think you'll still like it. Heck, you may learn some things that you never knew you never knew. :)

I discovered your channel back in 2011-2012. I was this twelve year old who knew nothing about anatomy. However thanks to you I was able to improve my art. Even though I didn't take on a career in art I was able to slowly learn to find my own style. Thanks for being so inspirational.

Just wanted you to know recently I dug out my copy of mastering Manga 2 it's still a great resource and I don't draw much but it's awesome for perspective and proportions of people. I've changed a lot but your lessons helped me express myself in ways I didn't understand then but I know now. I needed that time in my life to have silent time to learn about my emotions and express them and through the years I've tried to find many ways but I always come back to art and this channel. When I was younger I always wanted your books and I freaked out when I saw mastering Manga 2 at hobby lobby I wished I could have bought from you directly but I begged my mom to borrow money and took me a while to save up from mowing my grandmas lawn but it was worth it. I could probably read out the entire book from memory. I read it every night. I started drawing how I feel and its really helpful. No matter where my life has been this channel has been a constant place of comfort and peace. I'll probably pick up this book now that I have a job and can order stuff. I'm planning on reading it a couple times and donating it to my school library. Thank you Mark for everything

Hi Mark! I started watching your how-to-draw videos when I was just a little kid, I'm in college now and I still love drawing just as much. You're a big part of the reason I fell in love with anime-Esque drawing techniques, and you taught me about angles, drawing eyes, and anatomy, paneling, storytelling, and coloring. You've taught me more than anyone! Thank you so much for all you do and for sharing your great artwork with us. I really want to buy this book, it looks lovely! Also, it's been great to hear that soothing "See you again, real soon." at the end of your videos. Memories~

Can I just say. That I want to cry a bit, after seeing all this. 😂
As usual your art, and work, inspires, and has that unique charm, that you're well known for. In terms of what you create. From the comedic POV, and the story telling, and personal feelings, that each person can feel when they read this book. It's hard to explain. But when the book does hit stores, I'll be keeping an eye out, for both the Hard Cover copy, and soft cover copy. The work you always put into these books are always the greatest. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

First, to you who are interested in the book... It's good!
I would suggest it for young artists who have the maturity or experience to appreciate it, or will someday. Also, it's a good choice for people who tend to follow the crowd, whether that's their parents or friends, even if you don't see yourself as an artist. But that's just my opinion.
Now, to @markcrilley, just wow! I have been a viewer of your channel for some time now. My Summer with Cass came to me yesterday, and I read it in one night.
I love the art. It has a rough and raw look, which feels symbolic. The coloring is beautiful. I love how you play with lighting. I feel like not a lot of people do that. But, I see the warm sunshine on the character's faces versus the cold city lights at night. It's unique and looks like a memory.
The story is interesting. Reading this book reminds me of the things I have learned, especially from your videos (and Do Hard Things by B. & A. Harris, but that's another thing). There are a lot of themes squeezed, and I wish I could spend more time there. At the same time, I understand that they are best as conversation starters. Is that not what themes are at heart? The characters are similar. Their words and actions give clues to a larger story.
In some ways, maybe it's odd that I like it. I don't have a taste for swearing or nude art. Possibly it is because it reminds me of the importance of why. Why do I like or dislike something? What does that thing mean to me? I have my reasons, and I understand others have different views. But, I notice Megan struggles to have that, as she changes to fit in, rather than to stand up for what she thinks she believes. Or maybe it because I've been Megan. I am a bit of a people pleaser. People call me sheltered, but I have learned that they don't know me that well. So, my act of rebellion is going the extra mile, stand for what I believe even when it's not cool, and learning (outside of a school's brick walls). It's not fancy, but it's a reflection of what I strive for.
Anyways, thank you, Mark Crilley! ☺

After having not drawn for so long I'm getting back into it now but with a Digital sketch pad and software called OpenCanvas. I've still got a long way to go to get back into drawing and I'm going to be drawing and creating my own of several Comics.

You don't need Mark's video. There's already a wealth of information at your fingertips. I'm not trying to be rude, but if you are hungry for it, then go research until you pass out! Go right now and get all the answers you seek!
You want to know "the secret to success" well it's not some code or codex, it's not a key and a lock, it's just good old fashion "PERSISTENCE".
Stephen King? Todd McFarlane? Mark Crilley? Failed millions of times. Failing isn't scary, it just means you're hammering at the wall until you can knock it down, or squeeze through. You have to fail millions of times in order to succeed once. Make them know your name. Send publishers letter after letter, even if they end in rejection. Do not fear failure. The artist who fears failure can only succeed at failing. But the artist who fails until they succeed is truly ambitious.
It's a constant push, my friend. That's the secret. Persistence. Again Stephen King put a nail in his wall. and hung all the rejection letters from it. He had so many that the nail broke and fell to the ground. Did that stop him? No. He got a bigger nail. And he filled that one up with his "failures". Now he's a well known and respected worldwide best selling horror author. The guy loves telling stories. He does 6 pages a day minimum and he locks himself in his room until that work is done. (Persistence. Tenacity.)
Right now you could be researching and learning more about what it takes. There is no easy solution here. Be persistent, go look for proper page formatting, fonts and text types, bubble placement, proper character design and writing skills. We have a million moving parts to make this machine work, are you certain you have all these things in place?
Well then, let's go. Chop chop! You've got work to do. And don't you dare wait for Mark to make you a video on success or whatever you wanted. The solution is already here. It's really a lot of work and not a game. Never play at it. Work at it.

maybe would've enjoyed the story had it been clean. Crilley's always been my favorite author because there's never been language or anything edgy in his stories. I don't know if it was due to a pushy editor or just a bad creative choice but I hope you go back to the clean graphic novels after this. There is not enough out there!!! I'm reading through Miki Falls for the second time now because it's so clean but also a very rich story. However I assure you I have read "My Last Summer with Cass" for the last time :( If you're reading this mark, I sincerely hope you don't think I'm trying to run your project down, I just know you don't have to use language in your stories to make them amazing. As I previously said, there are enough graphic novels that are littered with language and other things, but I've always loved the wholesomeness of your stories, something this one lost a little bit.

With all the streaming services for indie movies to be shown on, I definitely think it raises the chances of something like Marks book to become a movie. I would be so happy to see that
