Remember, popcorn is all prepared in the same pot, the same oil, over the same heat, but they don’t all pop at the same time... your time to pop is coming, just be patient and go easy on yourself....
Emerald Queen underated comment
that's a brilliant analogy
and some don't even pop....
I'm so sorry
Ghazie Arsalan OMG I love that
I really like this comment
I would to like to share a phrase that always help me
"Since I can give up at any time, for now I will just believe in myself"
You can worry about procrastinating later.
👏
That is a really good one! Thanks for sharing.

*reads title* oh yeah, this is for me.
Thank you, the stand in dad of young artists everywhere Mr. Crilley.
Can I offer one piece of advise?
When you're considering giving up, remember why you started.
I started my work because I wanted to share how I feel and I wanted it to help people through entertainment
@@brandonchapman4532 Case in point: if you ever feel like giving up, use that as a reason to keep going.
My problem (beginner) is that I get frustrated and lose hope because seeing UA-cam videos of people taking 5 minutes, etc. to draw something incredible puts the thought in my mind that I should be able to draw, even sketch, fast.
What if you have no reason why you started?
I have a better one; watch Riot Games' how to make video games series (sonething like that); there's a dude who says "if you're consideribg giving up, consider not giving up"
Make that thing. Draw that picture you've been wanting to draw. Write that story. Sing that song. Try that crazy idea you've always wanted to try. Get it done. Put it out there, and share it with the world. It may start out bad, but you'll make it better. And then you'll make it great. Because you're an artist.and that's artists what do.
(JUST DO IT)!!!
That's a great message, but it kinda made me anxious.... Especially in the "Write the story" and "Try that crazy idea" part.. I think, millions of hooman gonna hate me for those.. Hecc
@@ris8447 I'm late but what I gatta say is,if people hate it they hate it but there are bunch of others that might enjoy and even love it.You will never know if you dont do it so why hold yourself back?
Lol, I can still remember learning how to draw ears from mark. Feels like ages ago... I'm glad a new graphic novel is finally on the way, I really liked brody's ghost. Thanks for a great decade!
Mishael Calhoun I really the infamous drawing a “realistic” eye 😂💗
Hey Mark! Thank you so much for this video. I'd like to tell you a little story. Back in 2010 I was diagnosed with OCD and depression at age of 17. Thanks to your videos I started to draw and fall in love completely with it. Since then I never stopped drawing or watching your videos. Now you have encouraged me once again to never give up on my dream of being a full time artist. Thank you for everything.
Hey Mark, I haven't tuned in for a long time. But imma turn that around in the new year.
Keep being you my dude.
I started my decade watching "how to draw manga tutorials" by Mark Crilley, and ended it with being accepted into animation college.
Thanks for the great decade, Mark!
God I needed to know that ”progress isn’t always steady” talk
Thanks
That last one was beautiful and my eyes actually watered for a sec
Same happened with me, most of those post hit me in the heart (and gut) honestly ;-;
Been watching Mark crilleys vids since I was 8 and he Def. Played a big role in me developing my drawing talent and curiosity =) from memories of my brother showing me my first mark crilley video which was how to draw a Manga girl to him responding to my Facebook drawing post where I tagged u made me go nuts as a kid because u were my UA-cam idol, which made me want to work even harder. Even if I don't comment alot I'm watching almost every video. Currently 9 years later (still watching his videos) I can finaly just draw what my imagination wants and I can put everything on paper and you played a huge role in that because you sparked that curiosity as a kid and taught me the basics before I could develop my own style, thankyou mark, keep doing what you love!
Oh man. I'm so happy youtube recommended this to me. Didn't realize how much I've missed Mark Crilley's videos. Why did I even stop watching for so long... he's so good. Great vid Mark!
I really needed to hear this. It is a fresh of breath air when my head is filled with a lot of negativity. Thank you so much for this. You gave me the clarity I needed to keep working on my art in a healthy way.
One phrase I heard has always been in my head: Art is what happens when you learn to dream!
I have to say, Mark, after these last ten years and following you.. it's been hard- graduation, health issues, job issues, people's negative attitudes and not fully understanding, it really weighs you down. Art has been my escapism. Feeling that all of my 'good' writings and drawings were from back in college and now not being able to reach 'that' again. But now I understand that was another time and place, and this new year and new decade is promised with self-care and healing so I can get my strength back to work and help around the house and get back to sitting in a chair to do my art. It absolutely does take time and we need to have humility to understand and not rush the healing process or the art process as they both coincide with each other. Thank you for this video and it's something I can rewatch when I need a boost. It was much needed you have no idea.. and I know others will benefit, too. Thank you
Thank you so much for this. After about 10 years of developing my skills I’ve decided to start a graphic novel in 2020 and I’ve been frustrated with the process; character designs, plot, backgrounds. doesn’t help that I’ve been feeling burnout from art school finals. It feels like you knew just the video I needed!
I mean, I've just been drawing for about over a year,
I thought that preping for projects becomes easier (concept art wise)... doesn't it?
i thought about making a comic book back in early 2019 and I still need to develop a story for it sometimes the creative process is slow because your too occupied with other things so don't give up so easily just because things happening around you are being put more into focus than your story idea. Shit happens thats just life. Find spare time to focus on your story
I once posted a picture of the stack of unfinished/abandoned projects I have and all my unseen studies, sketches and failed art experiments.... it's a 1 foot and a half for each stack. but the comments of fellow artists and the shared " pain" lifted my spirit a lot.
Anyone who has all understanding of the most basic concepts of art and can tell a story with their work...is a real artist.
When i watch your video´s and hear your voice, it always seems like i ´am listening to Bob Ross, his voice was also very relaxing and comforting, of course you work in a different area i know that,...but it is very nice to hear your voice :) ...somehow i feel you understand me :)
#2 Really applies to more than just artistic mediums, it also extends to skilled trades. I took a Welding course this year, and I was definitely hard on myself throughout it because I hold myself to a high standard.
Wow I was literally just thinking about this 15 seconds ago
I'm not an artist in the sense of drawing but I do write and I would say, so far, these same things apply and I'm glad I listened to this video. Thanks.
Damnit Mark, is there not one Video where you're not the chilliest, kindest, calmest, father-like person as we watch you draw. God I love it
I wanted to say 'you have NO IDEA how much I(and tons of others) needed this video,' but the fact that you made it means you do.
Thank you so much.
Thank you. I’ve been feeling like I was stagnant for a couple of weeks. I’ll keep at it.
Happy New Years!
You were the first artist that made me wanna do this art thing!
Same with me! He's so amazing and watching how to draw a manga girl made me wanna do more!
i’ve literally been watching you since i was a baby and i’m gonna be a senior next year and your videos and books always made me really happy i can’t believe you’re still consistently making content i love you
I really like when you stalked about abandoned projects, it's good to know that's normal, as that's something I've done over and over . Thanks for all of this, def great to hear it
I remember watching you with my sister when I was 12! Now I’m 21, and you’re still here to teach me things and encourage me. Thank you so much!!
I recently picked up a copy of Mastering Manga, it is quite helpful. I wish that I'd have gotten a copy sooner.
This is some of the best advice I've ever heard. Thank you...
Thank you so much Sir! This helped me a lot. I’m always doubting my abilities to draw even though I’ve improved. Artist’s block sucks by the way.
The "slipping backwards" hits home for me. I've had days where I can see a lot of improvement, then the next day I start to struggle like I didn't learn anything.
Had a bit of a burnout earlier this year when working on my comic. Took a month off, drawing whatever I felt like.
Started feeling better, and I'm back to work!
Good advice, and thank you for doing your thing.
To all artists going into 2020. Best of luck to you all, keep improving, keep practising and keep believing. Whether it's next year or the year after, or even the next decade, your time will come. If you don't fail then you won't know just how amazing success can feel like. No project is wasted, everything improves us, even each page that goes in the bin. Keep drawing, keep being creative. If 2020 isn't your year of success, make it your year of improvement.
I've been making a video game, and the only way I'm gonna get this thing out there is to accept its imperfections. Otherwise I'm gonna be polishing this thing for the rest of my life.
thanks for this video , i needed that last encouragement
...
and i cried :') 💕 thank you
There are many artists on youtube but not many have poured so much time and energy into actual teaching and mentoring. Basically every video is a guide and lesson. With only a few being about showcasing art purely for entertainment. Bless this man's soul.
Thank you for this! It was much needed!
Thanks so much for the video mark!
A decade ago I found your channel and you inspired me to pursue a degree in art. I graduated this year and but haven’t done anything with my degree yet. I was faced many of the challenges you just talked about and, not gonna lie, considered quitting my art entirely. You’re definitely right that only focusing on internet popularity and the successes of other people can be detrimental to a new artist’s emotional and mental wellbeing. But I’m feeling ready to take on the new decade and am not going to give up on my art! Thank you so much for all the work you do, and I’ll see you in the next video, real soon.
Great video! Definitely had a lot that I needed to hear :)
Thank you so much for making this.. really needed this
Thanks, Mark. I really needed to hear this today.
I appreciate your positive vibe my dude... needed this..
I absolutely needed this right now. Thanks man!
I needed this more than ever right now. Thank you. Happy new year.
Thank you Mark, what an awesome video!
I love that last quote. I’m taking it to heart!
"How to Draw Manga: Head Shape & Facial Features" in 2009 was the first video that made me trying to draw, such clear and well thought that made me think that drawing was easy. Now drawing is a passion and I have to thank you and this channel for that
Thanks for all your great advice. It's very helpful.
Thank you so much, this, particularly that inspirational last one!, is just what I needed to hear
Thank you Mark!
Have a great new year Mark! It is so much fun listening to your art talks.

Thank you so much for making this video. These were the words I really needed to hear this year and i actually started tearing up watching this. Have a great new year!!
This is one of the best videos I've watched in a long time. It's so easy to think that these are only things you experience and it's so nice to reminded it's all normal. Thank you so much for this!
Thanks!
Very good peptalk.
I shared with my photography group on Facebook.
Been getting inspired by you for over a decade Mark, and I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for uplifting me from learning to draw my first anime hairstyle at age 11 to giving me the pep talk to still find the wonder and magic in art at age 22. Happy 2010’s
Watching this is very soothing I love watching the background charactes and main characters vibe in this scene increase with the guach.
Thank you, Mark. I needed to hear that
Thank you Mark. An extra boost of confidence and energy I'll need for next year. God bless.
Thank you so much for this Mark! I’ve truly struggled with my art these past two years, so this video truly has been helpful.
I'm glad I clicked on your video tonight! I really needed the encouragement! And yes I will do that creative thing... Thank you!
Thx Mark. I'm looking forward to 2020. Thanks you are very inspiring
I loved that last bit of advice 🙌
