Great video. I’m a plugin fanatic I’m always chasing a different sound it became obsessive for awhile there and then l realized that my songs weren’t consistent because l used so many different plugins on each song. I now use my core Universal Audio plugins and things sound better.
Excellent video. My opinion is that it will depend on your mixing skills. lf you are a pro, stock plugins are all you need. lf you are an absolute beginner like me, then Gullfoss is perfect.
All the DAWs I've used had decent stock mixing plugins (LMMS, Reaper, FL Studio mobile and Studio One). Studio One and LMMS have wonderful stock synths. I actually was surprised how good a selection LMMS had as a free daw.. The only time I've gotten 3rd party plugins was when I mained Reaper and wanted piano or a synth with multiple oscillators.
@@AlexReidStudios Me too. I think I have 4 gb of samples and way too many synths to count on my computer. Esp since most of my collection is free synths.
I agree with you that Bitwig and other DAVs have enough tools to create music and design. But still there are virtual synths in which everything is at my fingertips and it is, for me, much more convenient workflow than I will constantly search for individual FX. Of course, can prepare all this, but you know you almost always need to change something, and it's just not in the template:) And yet everyone has their own way of making music. good luck.
I did an Album (homemade one, only to me and my friends, you can heard it if u want in my channel) because I made music for fun, and I'm learning, I use only stock plugin in my album with some samples. Basically, the entire album is made with only PoiZone, Sawer and mainly Transsistor Bass (with Distructor atach on it), and if I need I used Toxic Biohazard. Mostly only using pressets! now! I searching for a more 80s sound! so I manage to get the emulators of Minimoog, Yamaha DX7, Prophet V, ARP 2600, Juno 60, Jupiter 8 and 4 ... and why not? Synclavier. let see what i can do with this.
My best selling song ever was produced on a Windows PC, with Cubase 5, most stock plugins and Sylenth 1... back in 2010. Now in 2024 I own a Mac Pro, a lot of hardware synths and drummaachines, all of the DAWs and maybe 90% of all plugins, incl. UAD, etc... My job now is to update my systems all the time, so I do not have time to make music anymore. That explains it all. I know it's stupid, but I like to use new plugins and techniques, but I do not sell music anymore.
For EQ, I ALWAYS use the default stock EQ built into Cubase or Frequency2, a stock EQ, when I wanna get more ✨advanced✨(It has m/s, l/r, dynamics with multiple sidechain inputs for each of the 8 bands, and it's really sensitive where I can boost a band up to 24db.) And this plugin is STOCK. BUILT IN! That's freaking INSANE! Steinberg really cooked with this one. Sadly, Cubase doesn't have effect builders like FLs Patcher or Bitwigs The Grid tho.
im not buying plugins this month. I'm waiting for Audio Imperia to finish out my orchestra library. I also have absolutely ZERO bothers to give about how accurate a plugin emulation is compared to another. I just care if I like that sound or it does what I want it to. People will swear up and down that Pianteq is superior to Piano V and I don't care. I have V and I'm not dropping the money Pianteq costs :D Recently I've set up my Proteus 2000 in Studio One so I can literally drag it into a project like a VST, and I use those pianos now.
I can give up most of my 3rd party plugins, but there is a few that i cant live without. cableguys, sugarbytes suite, infiltrator, and then all of my synths lol Also as a fellow adhd person, one of the ways we try to make up for the lack of essential chemicals in our brains is with impulse buying. If you can recognize that its your adhd driving your purchase then you might be able to avoid a hard drive full of bloat
@@AlexReidStudios i used to stream regularly on twitch and tried my hand at youtube then too, i have often considered getting back into it just for the possibility of freee plugins LUL... but i just do not have the time to edit videos on top of music and my day job. I mean this is a bit silly really. Misinformed clickbait title for younger upcomers. The functionality of Kirchhoff EQ trumps any stock DAW eq, saving vast amounts of time. So this is pure folly. I need that plugin. Could I mix purely on stock? Sure. Do I want to? hell no, and we all know most good engineers feel exactly the same. So what is the real point of this video? clicks and views.

a lot of plugins out there only perform a technical function, but some impose a reliable character on the sound. and those are the moments
