“Starve” makes me think it’s introducing voltage sag somewhere in the signal chain. From what I’ve gathered the Polivoks used op amps in the filter that wasn’t standard, and those opamps were not designed for musical instruments but just spares that were available? That’s my admittedly uneducated guess.
Since every and each Polivoks sounded different because of the poor quality and inestability of its components, you could have 2 Polivivoks which would be almost 2 different synths. Some sounded dirtier, some more stable, some more agressive... the "Starve" knob, I think, try to give a little different flavor to the sound of the Atomika like diffrent Polivoks would do in the past. Don't know if you know what I mean, the aleatory thing because of the component. If the "Starve" knob is pushed wat too far it does some strange things (liquid effect for example) but in a reasonable use it gives that different flavor between different Polivoks-
Thanks for the video. It is really interesting-sounding. It has that low-end presence of a Minimoog, but it doesn't sound like a Minimoog. I don't know what it sounds like. I guess it sounds like a Polyvox. I suppose, I mean, I never actually heard a real one.
@@mrbmodules2938 nice. yea i get that natural distorsions of the circuitry can create variations like this. if this variation is applied a sort of quantization, maybe through the "force" of feedback for instance; as i understand it, to me its like sample and hold process. I get not in an artificial way tho. Thanks
@@Nenko_Music The feedback in a state-variable filter like here and in Oberheim stuff provides damping. This is the opposite of a ladder filter. The more feedback, the less resonant. The chaos you hear is just that, chaos. There's no quantization or anything like that. Thanks for your interest in the mechanism behind what's going on.
@@mrbmodules2938 yea for sure. Im eager to learn these things. I guess it s the next necessary step after knowing how to use synthesis. Very interesting stuff thk u
Downloaded the demo but seems to be a real bug in it as not playing. I use a lot of Cherry Synths and they all work fine but this one wont play. The other midi controls like modulation are working fine but the keyboard is not playing. Its not a midi setup issue as swapping out the same instance for another Cherry plugin and it works. I hope they sort it as this will be a no go from me and I love its sound.
I felt like that about some of their older plugins. But, I ended up changing my mind with most recent ones, Mercury 4 & 6, GX-80 and Atomika all sound good, a definite step up from their older plujgins. This one especially, is dirtier sounding. Mercury 4 is a bit dirty too. GX-80 is cleaner and brighter, but you can mold it. The core tone is good on the recent models. The free Moog / MG Realistic is also nice.
" I found my favorite Cherry Audio Synth" lol Dont have to try that hard to shill this bro. Just show us what it does and tell us what you don't and do like about it. I would actually take your opinion more seriously than hyperbolic statements that don't hold water.

Very cool! Cherry Audio consistently put out great sounding stuff
This one sounds very unique!
Me too and I haven’t even tried it yet! Love the fact that it doesn’t lose bass energy when filtering
@@foxate That's dope
You k ow how much I love you ve the screech od the PS20 filter, but this sounds next level nasty. Love it.

top review! thanks!
Thank you!
Dirty dirty Moog
I love this Synth ❤️❤️❤️
Great demo Alex! Thanks for doing a really good job with the anger and grit aspects.
Thank you! I wanted to highlight the most important character of the synth
Saw the notification for this thing while at work. Gotta try it out

It's a great little synth :)
Ever since learning the Polivoks was on the Doom 2016 ost, I've wanted an emulation. Cherry Audio wins my wallet again!
I was impresed when hearing that, this synth was used on many well known music

really want this one but will have to wait to get it on a steeper sale or as part of a humble bundle
@@GillamtheGreatest For this to be in Humble Bundle I think it would be some years. Hope you can get it on a sale :)

Completely understand, it makes sense, the distortion drastically changes with the Starve
Yes, from the vid I can hear strange distorted things, very uncommon, so more interesting than usual devices

I have an Elta Music Polivoks filter and had been interested in an emulation of the actual synth. Guess I'll check this out.
@@Cysubtor_8vb Go and try it, I think is a great sounding synth
one thing for sure is that there s some S/H happening as moduation in this new feature STARVE
Not sure, because extreme filter feedback can cause that unstability
No S/H at work. What you are hearing is a natural consequence of modeling the circuitry. There is nothing "artificial" or gimmicky going on.

I see why you like it very much”analogue” sounding. It just sounds like it’s breaking up in that way.

Spoke to cherry audio it’s a bit tricky to configure with the midi channels - wish that was a little better documented
DooM??
You are sponsored by Cherry? Their synths sounds so digital and clean, far away from real analog emulation... thanks!
Not sponsored, I like their products, and this one is the most analog sounding one to date

There's nothing wrong with saying this is your favourite
