As a sixty five year old who used to lift the needle on my phonograph record player,(LMAO) to learn everything Neil did, when I discovered this song I always wondered how he was getting those harmonics and tone. I knew he double dropped it in D but I still couldn't grab onto the whole intro. You my friend are a life saver since there are very few phonographs left out there or are there, Alexa, go back, Alexa go.. aww forget it. Anyway, I salute you. Thank you for saving me hours of time I really don't have. You Rock!
Can't believe the only video to really this cover this solo on youtube has so few views. Massive respect for putting this video together, one of my favourite songs ever, and very fun to play. You also teach very well
I honestly don't understand UA-cam AT ALL. I do a lot of solo covers. Well over a 100 now as part of my effort to learn and play guitar world magazine's top 100 solos of all time. I think for the most part that they're pretty good, yet the majority of my covers sit at a couple of thousand views. There are tons and tons of covers out there that honestly aren't great and have hundreds of thousands if not millions of views. I honestly don't get it. Oh well, I'll keep at it because I love doing it.
Sweet Jesus... I totally wasn't expecting this. I'm in AWE. Wish I could give this 10000 likes. You EARNED IT ! Best tutorial of this amazing song out there. Thanks SO much. You gotta new sub.
I've tried to learn this song off and on for 20 years and never found tabs or tutorial that comes anywhere this close. I hope you do the rest of the song and thanks so much!
I'm old school (and old, lol), which means back when I was young I developed a really strong ability for picking solos apart by ear. It's stuck with me over the years thankfully.
I bought this album right when it came out I think it’s 75 or 76 Neil Young said that this was his best solo ever. I listened to it the other day for the first time in a long time, and I wept like a baby.
Thank you!! I have loved this song for about 50 years , I have not tried to play in a long time but I am going to now. You now have A new fan and student, Thank you again!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of this song. It's one of those with haunting melodies and is beautiful in its simplicity. Thanks to you for this wonderful presentation on how to make the song come to life.
Thank you so much for posting this. I would have never been able to learn it with out your tutorial. You have unbelievable patience. So happy I am learning to play this Classic.
Recently became obsessed with this song after stumbling across Prong’s cover of it. 100% Neil Young fan, one of the best concerts I ever went was Neil and Crazy Horse. You have really helped me start to learn this song. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Such a great video. I’m going to learn the solo, but you’ve also helped me to work out how to jam out to this great song with my friends, and this song was made for jamming to 🙏
Holy moly! KD! I was just listening to this on the radio and realized this is one of the greatest solos ever- I have got to learn this! wouldn’t you know , you have a tutorial a full tutorial!! you are the only one on UA-cam who has the full electric tutorial. I can’t say thank you enough. Beautiful job playing You are AWESOME
I just decided to play this song, and looked for a tutorial, seen your recently added tutorial. Made me think I am blessed. thx man! keep up good work :)
You Sir, truly feel Neil's music. I could see and hear it when you play. I listened to your solo several times; absolutely awesome! Thanks for the great lesson!
Dude! You just made my week. I have been in love with this solo ever since I've heard it and now i can learn how to play it. You rock for taking the time to make this video. Thank you!
This is an amazing solo and you do an incredible job teaching this. I am almost at half ways and need to get to work on the tone. Your words are so accurate on Neil's style. You have this bang on and I really appreciate your effort and posting of this. Thank you so much !!!
What should i say the way how you approach this masterpiece is so nice, its not a strict solo you can repeat over and over, i really enjoyed learning some parts of this for my personal base to stay in your words, great thanks from germany ❤🤘
Way to go! Not only is this a super lesson on the solo, but the song structure is simple... goes to show us all: Keeping it simple does not necessarily mean it's easy.
I really liked your rationale at the outset Kelly for covering this genuinely iconic song of one of your most famous fellow Canadians. And getting back into music because of your daughter’s interest in guitar resonated with me. It’s the reason why I am teaching my grandchildren. The translation of the solo in my view is near perfect. Many thanks.
Just found this channel and its awesome! I am a long time acoustic guitar player just getting into electric guitar and lead playing. This channel is and will be helping me a ton. Thanks dude
I too have allays wanted to play this song. This tutorial works for me a dyslectic and a profound impatient sort. This cut through all that has gotten in my way. Thanks with all my heart!
You mentioned you seem to gravitate towards these types of lower profile but amazing solos - I think that is exactly right and much appreciated - please keep gravitating!
A musician of Neil’s caliber could have been a highly technical player if he wanted but that just wasn’t what he was after. Pure tone, feel and rawness.
Thanks for the tip on the Drop D! I totally missed that one. But I hear another chord variation of the Am on the last bar of the progression. Anyone else hear that? This is best version on UA-cam so far.
I stopped the video at 9:10 in and screamed “Finally!” Finally, someone who can simplify one of the most important ingredients in a solo. “75% happens on the G”. Thank you. Worst case go back to the G and it’ll sound good :-)
This is awesome, thanks so much for sharing it. I wonder if you've dug into his epic guitar solo work for the soundtrack to 'Dead Man' (1995)? It's virtually unknown, and one of his best works.
If I was only allowed to listen one album for the rest of my days (60 y/o) Neil Young Decade would be that album. Good choice for a tutorial.

I used to shove a book of matches under the turntable. Slow the records down that way. It's all I had.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar Brilliant, never thought of that.
Yep used to wreck my albums learning songs.
Did you lift the needle to see the damage done?!
Can't believe the only video to really this cover this solo on youtube has so few views. Massive respect for putting this video together, one of my favourite songs ever, and very fun to play. You also teach very well

This was a FANTASTIC lesson!! Thank you so much!!! It DID take me about 4 hours to learn though hahaha that's just because I'm a slow learner
