- A new series, maybe. Not really trying to play like Neil here (as I can't do that), just showing you some soloing possibilities over his chords. Play along to my backing for free, here:

This is my kind of content. All the Neil Young electric stuff!
This is great. Please do some more of these. There are other UA-camrs who do "in the mind of" type content about the way guitarists approach soloing, but not with your succinct and focussed teaching style and your communication skills. I've been watching your channel for a good while now and it feels like you're a mate showing me stuff, if you see what I mean. It's not easy to pull that off, so I take my hat off to you.
I knew you had good taste, but On the Beach came out of nowhere - and you're right, what a great and hugely under-appreciated album it is. Nice work here - thanks!!
Forgot how much I love On the Beach. Beautiful playing. Thanks again. Love that Jazzmaster too. Fender+neck binding= oh yeah baby!
YES! Continue those impov sessions. Thanx
Adrian, bulls eye! just what the doctor ordered during these crazy times. I love this piece and your approach to the interplay of chords, scales and arpeggios. Advancing and consolidating the level of play/understanding. Would like to see more of this. I personally love Young's work- Cortes, Revolution etc..Keep up the great work.
I start up guitar lessons again tomorrow. Been a long time. I thought I was the only one who relished the beauty of the On The Beach record. Awesome. I love Motion Pictures, Ambulance and Revolution Blues. Saw him do Revolution once. CM7 is my favorite chord. You are awesome!
Oh man love that you appreciate Neil’s ragged but beautiful guitar work.
This is from my favourite album of his and I just couldn’t resist a jam to this song after watching.
This is brilliant! Just what I've been looking for. A tsunami of thanks for your Rowland S Howard lessons too.
Just found this absolutely amazing lesson, which has really given me a lot of insight into tasteful soloing. This is one of my favourite albums too; I bought it on vinyl when it came out, unfortunately long gone. I’ll be trying to source the backing track and look forward to a productive day of playing. Thank you so much for this type of lesson; it’s much appreciated.
Great choice. Definitely Neil’s best album. The way I hear it on the record he alternates between an Am7 and Am9 in the verse. And the transition to the Cmaj7 to Fmaj7 is just gorgeous. Neil’s original solo is a master class in simplicity and less is more.
This is just perfect. I've been learning pentatonics and arpeggios, starting to play over the changes, and this helps take it beyond academics and practicing to making music! Great choice of song, too, rich and slow and spacious enough to work within and not feel rushed. Please make this a series!
Thanks for breaking it down slowly. It had a little something for folks at most levels.
This is perfect, mate. Looking forward to more of them.
Love this approach. Let’s see more of these, please.
Hi Adrian! Thanks for this mate. Keep on rocking in The not-so-free World.
I love this concept - more videos like this please :)
I like the idea because each guitarist has their own style and approach to soloing. In addition, it gives us approaches and ideas to different solo styles. You always know when it is Eric Clapton, or Jerry Garcia, or Carlos Santana by their style. Interesting idea. I like it.
My favorite UA-cam guitar personality discussing my favorite guitarist.
Adrian, very lucky to have found your channel and this video! Wonderful explanation of different approaches to soloing, presented in a logical progression from beginner (where I'm at) to within reach and beyond. All of them sounding good! Really appreciated this, thank you.
Fantastic as ever Adrian... just was I was looking for
What a great idea! I'm sure I'm not alone when it comes to figuring out what to play when taking a solo. You could really show off a lot of styles with this series.
110% yes on more tutorials like this one ... thank you for being so considerate of us!
Fantastic, On The Beach my favourite Neil Young album, and I love them all.
Adrian, thnx for starting this series. You're explaining a lot in a way, which makes sense to me.
Absolutely brilliant, Adrian.
Great lesson! I think this will serve as a roadmap for my guitar learning! Great tones as well!! Thank you!!
Thank You! Great job and really appreciate your going over gear and effects to help understand tone!
Sublime playing. Such a great great album.
Never have the lyrics "I need a crowd of people, but I can't face them day to day" been so relevant and poignant.
Excellent video
Many thanks for another fantastic lesson. Thank you. My Man. Please more vids like this please 🎸🇬🇧👍
Yes please. This would be a great help. Your teaching and playing are brilliant.
New to your patreon ......this is a brilliant format and hope you continue to do many more . Have already added so much to my playing from your wonderful instruction content and style . Thank you so many much
What you have done with this Neil Young track is amazing Adrian including all the added tab and notes within the Patreon section.....very valuable. Thank you so much! I want to encourage you to continue these kinds of expanded views and breaking down of the music. Very enjoyable.
So cool please continue this new series I learn so much from you. Thanks
Adrian, Thanks for inspiring and pushing us to develop our skills. 🙏
Great exploration of Neil Young’s style. Also my favourite Neil Young album as well :)))
Awesome. Thanks. Gear guide was really helpful too. Please keep the channel going.......
Just when you think somethings clicked, it clicks again. A great comprehensive lesson Adrian, loved the theory too...........as always. :)
Great idea, big help in soloing strategy. Thumbs up.
This is really great-nicely done and very well presented.
Adrian, all your lessons are great so just keep doing what you think is best. Thank you for all your time and effort to teach guitar.
Great lesson. I appreciate the backing track and ideas.
happens to be my favourite song from my favourite album of all time (Ambulance Blues off the same album is also utterly beautiful)
This tune is so inspiring and you lesson helps me so much -pleas go on with this kind of lessons. Thank you so much!
Brilliant. Provides a range of thoughtful insights into soloing approaches -- from basic to relatively complicated. The challenge will be to find interesting artists' "backing tracks," but I have every confidence you'll succeed! Thanks.
Love the idea. Very cool. One suggestion that would be helpful for me: call it out in real time what/where you are playing based on the chord changes. I THINK I know why you are doing what you’re doing, when you do it, but not always sure.
Thank you so much for this lesson Adrian, you always pick such amazing songs, you’re by far my favorite guitar teacher on UA-cam.
Wow ... This is great, I love these practical guides, for people like myself who always struggle to make my scales / arpeggios more "musical" this is really helpful. The tone discussion at the end is always greatly appreciated... (Now I have to get my Jazzmaster and Helix set up properly!)
Great new idea Aidrian. I'll deffo be using that backing track. Love it 😆
I'd love to see more of this stuff Adrian - really like the way you offer some stuff that even those of us who are relatively clueless when it comes to soloing can have a crack at.
This video is great, love to see more like this. I like the amount of information, or should I say the different levels of information. So the viewer can choose how in-depth they want to take it.
Adrian, just want to add my thanks for these lessons and song breakdowns. They're right up there with the best on UA-cam, a fantastic resource. The hard work is much appreciated.
That fuzz you kicked in sounded amazing.
Neil Young is my absolute favorite.
Wow! Thank you for all the quality instruction and backing track!
Really like this - a big help and interesting. Thanks Adrian!
Awesome touch-and-feel Adrian that's what it's about. But of course you have to go through a lot to get to this point awesome
Adrian you are awesome! Thanks for the great video!
Awesome lesson. Awesome playing. Thanks!
Hello Adrian. I am Alexis from Paris. It is really an interesting concept with backing track available for training. Please continue. Thanks
Yes, I think this is very useful. Great idea!
You have great taste in the songs you use and teach. Really appreciate it.
Awesome, my all time favourite album too. Got to spend a bit of time with this, thank you.
Hi Adrian, love the idea!! Hope it becomes a regular series. :-)
Great job. Love this type of content! Thanks.
Love it!
This song got me to Neil Young a long time ago…
Anyway, great approach, great tut. Thanks!
Thanx Adrian, very much appreciated! Helps me really to learn play over the changes. And very tasteful to play this minor 7 progression.
All the best from Holland
Neil is one of my favorites too. Good stuff this one.
Great content! Much appreciated! Go for more! 😊
Great idea , great lesson, great teacher. Well done and thank you Adrian 👍
Awesome solo !!!!!! Fell in love
Perfect timing.. Crawled up out my guitar cave last night after experimenting with my new Fuzz pedal and pedalboard trying exactly this soloing. Naturally I was all over the place and bereft of structure and ideas. I had the great Fuzz OD sound but couldn't do much with it. This is a great help. Thanks!!!.. brilliant album On the Beach btw... Enjoying a lot of Crazy Horse atm aswell,👍
Beautiful loved it . ❤️ would love to be able to do this.
Thank you Awesome playing.
I like this format.
This is excellent thankyou. I didn't know the track ( but my daughter did?!) Cool stuff , more please!
Brilliant lesson, Adrian! By all means, continue with this sort of lesson! You did a great job of bringing relevant and useful music theory into the lesson in a way that was relatively painless for those of us who are primarily self taught, and somewhat lacking in that regard. The chord theory content was especially useful for me. Perhaps you could do a lesson on incorporating jazz chord substitutions into rock, blues, and/or country song structures? Thanks!
Yeah like this idea. Really hits the elements of guitar playing that I need to break through.
Adrian, Brilliant! More of these please in a variety of keys. Thanks mate!!!
This is very good and should be continued!
Great idea Adrian and thank you!! Beautiful!!!!
Adrian, love this! What great practice and your instruction is so clear! Please keep doing this wonderful teaching concept!

Thanku Adrian. This is brilliant, a very accessible method of learning, for me at least
This lesson is the best! Pleasekeep doing em
Man'o'man that Jazzmaster is wailing!
Thanks Adrian ! Great ideas. Love that gritty swampy sound. Very Crazy Horse Esc. Keep up the good work.
Great concept, great video. Thank you for this and all the other great stuff you do. Am a big Neil Young fan so this was a nice surprise. I was able to incorporate some of the arpeggio stuff you presented in your Nice Lick 12 video in the chorus. Combining that with verses using minor pentatonic fills/runs sounds really nice.
Rhythm and lead us . Brilliant
This is a great series.
Great idea....keep ‘em coming!
Great idea and a fabulous lesson... thank you so much..... Great Stuff.....
Thanks man, love on the beach
Adrian, the cliff notes and the clue were at the 10 min, what a revelation.
Wonderful, beautiful, great - thanks!!! xxx
Super workout idea Damian, started without the backup & I was discovering relationships. So with the help of the Back-up & many a repetitions I will be more articulate with the chord changes.
Thank you...
I’ve just found your channel and I subscribed !!! You’re a very good teacher, it helps me so much, thank u👍🏼🍒
Thank you again you UA-cam wonder. I much much prefer this kind of instruction for learning solos (because I'm hopeless when it comes to doing them correctly; everything I do turns out, um, unique). I think you picked a great style for your first entry in the series, if it becomes a series 👍🏻
Love this! And a great idea to boot!
Thank you!
Really great lesson, thanks!
Love it, more of these please!
Brilliant stuff!
