Richie is that rare shredder who doesn't feel like he has to show it all the time. He plays for the song. And he is actually quite a good vocalist. Much respect.
@@dhzimmers Yeah I think quite a good vocalist is actually underselling his vocals. RK sounds like a Glen Hughes, Prince and Chris Cornell blend… in a good way
Not many people give props to Kotzen and his lyrical analogies.. I believe that is a reason why he is able to cover many genres. He is the total musician.
He’s one of the few that can walk on a stage and someone could call out any genre there is and he could put on a 2 hour show like he’s played it all his life. He is a tremendous talent.
I like the whole vibe of this one; not to mention that he is giving a Prince/Hendrix feel also. Two of the greatest to have ever done it in recent history.
Wow! So cool to see Alisa in this video. That girl could sing. I remember her from way back in the days of Arthur's Museum. I heard she passed away. R.I.P.
Richie's original material harkens back to that 70's singer/songwriter sound. He'd fit in seemlessly with 70's artists such as Hall & Oates, Player, Ambrosia, etc. Essentially, any 'yacht rock' band from back in the day. His music is timeless!
Man...I really like that. I've been a musician for 33 years (mostly guitar) and I really love this song...kudos to you guys...it's hot, funky & fresh....made my day go a lot better!!! Thank God there's still some great musicians out there!
Met Richie after a show in Arizona in Scottsdale called, BK Live back in 2017 with his band. I spoke to Richie for about 15 minutes- I said to him, Richie: ( after thanking him for all his music, etc. I said- Your on the level of Prince being so diverse in your music and how many instruments you play to your song writing, I also mentioned way back in High-school when I was studying music, I discovered your music by coming across your 2nd CD- Fever Dream, Richie's head went way back, and said, "OMG dude you kidding me", I think he went back to smoke a joint after that, Great moment meeting Richie after his show, was super cool.
After listening to a lot of Richie's songs, this is arguably one of his best tunes. With a cool 70s vibe, smooth production, tasteful riffs and meaningful lyrics you'll be singing this to yourself all day. I'd love to hear him write some more material like this. Awesome!
Love this song and video. It's nice to see a man truly humbled by his decisions in life and come out the otherside a better man and a more complete musician/artist.
Richie Kotzen is a super star but only for us who really understand good quality music and awesome musicians. When he becomes mainstream then it will be over with great creativity!!! He needs to be doing his own thing.
What is so cool about Kotzen is his simple blend of funk and.blues!! We all know he can ay gunslinger, sweep pick and shred better than the next guy.....been doing that for years. His writing and crafting of songs, songs with hooks and wicked melodic sensibility,THAT,is where he sits head and.ahoulders above most. Why he is.not a.houswhold name is simple.....he has been branded a shredder and lives in that shadow. Few people know he is an amazing writer. I for one ,am happy to know of his awesome talent yet have him be " unknown" so to speak. Makes it more special!!
Richie i played drums for 15 years. Being around the world a few times. Your music simply amazing. I quit playing drums a few years go I've just discovered your music yesterday. You have my subscription man. Thank you for bringing my soul to a good professional music again. Keep up the good work buddy!
Nice, thanks for putting this up! Tight, sweet tune. RK's always had that soulful part of his music, it's always there and for me makes it deeper than just great playing - and with his voice - this is a cool direction for him to try out, would like to hear more of this from him.
So now the guy throws out some awesome contemporary pop/soul song ..... after the rock pedigree that he has laid down over the past 20 years? I already enjoyed Kotzen's talent before this, but holy crap, how much more great music is lurking in the soul of this dude. I'm guessing this song is homage to his love for Hall and Oates music. I'd love to see him on Daryl's House, he would be a terrific guy to jam with.
- watch?v=ITqgH0eMkos - watch?v=TIwqGRCVZFQ - watch?v=zwqi44bxmyM those songs are from 96, i guess. Look for an EP called Times gonna tell and the Wave of Emotion Album (the reissue contains the EP, btw) back them, this EP was the first ever music i bought/heard from him apart from watching his guitar video. his singing blow me a million miles away. and still does today.
now I tell you what. Generally, I mean in the most usual cases, if you are blessed with something, like a talent, beauty or good looking, you lack something else, which is supposed to be price for what you are blessed with. now can anybody tell me what makes Richie stand out as an exception? why him? I mean really why not me, you or anybody but him? He's a guitar master, a god... got the talent to play and produce and sing, got the amazing voice, and he is good looking! breaking every f.cking rule!
+EdgeOfSanity I bet God thinks like that in such cases "now that I've come so far giving him the best of everything, I might as well go and crown it with a moby dick."
Richie is just fusing the music of his youth with his unique style. Richie grew up in Reading, PA. A lot of UA-cam viewers are too young to remember Philadelphia Soul. Hall and Oates were just the marquee "blue eyed" musicians in that scene. I urge each and every viewer to research the genre. Granted, much of the music is dated, and Richie puts a hard rock/heavy metal edge on the Philadelphia sound that makes his music sound familiar and new at the same time; however, a trip through that music scene will give those who are unfamiliar with the music that Richie listened to when he was a kid a greater appreciation for this man's genius as well as his respect for the genre. I am old enough to have listened to Philadelphia Soul when it was originally recorded. I have also had the pleasure of watching Richie develop as a musician. I would have never believed in a million years that the kid who first appeared on Mike Varney's label would develop into such as multi-faceted musician. Richie is the white Prince.

Ive been into Kotzen since the shrapnel beginning, He is A SUPERSTAR to me, fuck most ppl are idiots that cant hear or something. Also I cant get enuff of this tune 'Chype!' and NEVER get tired of any of his stuff. Master.
Still haven't heard one bad song of this guy and his crew in all his career. Carry on with the good music Mr. Kotzen!.
Its true. Everything he puts out is incredible
Richie is that rare shredder who doesn't feel like he has to show it all the time. He plays for the song. And he is actually quite a good vocalist. Much respect.
He’s an amazing vocalist and songwriter too! His range, tonality, expressivity, styles-SO DIVERSE yet uncompromising in quality.

Really!!!
Bob Dylan
Greatness. Best songwriter, artist, guitarist of the last 30 years.
..... Why is Richie Kotzen not a superstar?
Why??
about 10 yrs ahead of his time.
sammy reynolds I don't think in 10 years mainstream music listeners will have come to a Richie Kotzen level still.
I wonder every day...
Willians Porto agree
WTF .... Somebody ... whoever is in charge of this.... give this guy a Grammy!!! IMHO, he deserves a few!!!
Because he is rockstar
Make it 10
I second that he’s my favorite musician I’ve been learning his stuff on guitar
Aaaaaaaaaaaááaaaáaááááaá
This song to me is like a serious breathe of fresh air!! Brilliant piece of work again from Richie Kotzen!!
People rip him for songs like this but I think it shows his total diversity! He has such a great voice.
I like his stuff like this most. Not everyone has soul I guess.
"people rip him".... Who, exactly? I didn't hear anyone complaining, did you?
People give too much attention to bad things and allow them to grow.
@@FeelingShred You won't hear the sound of someone not buying his music.

This is what happens when you mix some kinda Motown groove, Hall&Oates melodic line and guitar virtuosity..RK is a genius!
Yes 100%!
Everything he does is simply perfect. Thanks, Richie.

I got the album couple of days ago, great oldschool Soul/R'n'B/Funk Stuff, specially the song with Doug Pinnick from King's X.
King's X is the shit son
Richie with a Strat again....? F%CK YEAH!!!
Julia's back! If this doesn't absolutely CRUSH it on American radio, then I know the fix is in!
Another masterpiece ... in both song and video !!

R&B Richie! There's no type of music that this guy can't knock out of the park.
Now I see Prince's influence on Richie.
sounds like a throwback to the days of old with Hall & Oats and Player - love it!!!!! Fantastic job Mr. Kotzen!!!
Awesome song and performance...very laid back and positive...a 'Get Happy' song...

How am I just now learning about this musician??? Brilliant music!
Awesome tune! Dig the throwback vibe and groove. Kinda puts me in mind of Paul Gilbert's "Atmosphere on the moon". Very cool.
