I was there that day. He gave the speech three times, and the first time it was the extras who blew it. He was so good, we forgot to yell and cheer and we just stood there looking at him stunned. Then there was a slowly reactive clapping, and then we went again.
The transition between the historical footage and the movie footage is uncanny. I had to watch twice to see, oh, yeah, now it's Alan Rickman. What a talent!
RIP Alan Rickman 💗
He was so talented, versatile and gorgeous actor
his dad was an Irish Catholic! His mum was Welsh
Got to have some relatives around there somewhere...
Alan Rickman as an English actor potrays Irish nationalist leader Eamon de Valera very well.
Also, he played a German criminal mastermind....!!
I thought that Alan Rickman was the perfect choice for Eamon De Valera to be honest
@@patriciabyrne5089 Indeed
@@Touhou-forever His Dad was of Irish descent
@@shouvikghosh8946 Ladies and Gentlemen...
His hair in Michael Collins is so handsome and young
✝️ 🇮🇪 Rip Alan 1946-2016 🇮🇪 ✝️
P.S. Yes , Alan Rickman was of Irish descent and proud of it!
Rickman: “His mother was Welsh, and his paternal grandmother was Irish. Rickman would later say in April 2015, "I was talking to Sharleen Spiteri about being a Celt, how you smell each other out, because my mother's family is Welsh. There's not a lot of English blood in me."
Господи, он сыграл бесподобно
He should have gotten best supporting actor for this.
This post is about Alan Rickman the actor. Can we leave the politics to another forum please?
How do you talk about a pivotal figure in Irish history without mentioning Irish politics?
Revolution!
Well at least those volunteers only had to give up a few hours of their time
Paid extras. It was a huge deal at the time, bringing Michael Collins to life. He died too young.
@@EMMYK1916as did the Republicans he put in the grave.
I have no respect for Eamon De Valera a lot of people in Ireland absolutely hate De Valera now days including me and I can't blame them.
Interesting... why?
@@MrVoksa Because he was the one who started the Irish Civil War because he didn't like Michael Collins's Idea of making peace with Britain after the war of independence.
De Valera casted a long shadow on Irish politics. He was a major political figure from the 1910s onwards till the 1970s, more than half a century. What he did still has repercussions today. As do the actions of Michael Collins but he died young.
@@Ozymandias1 I have always believed that Ireland's relationship with Britain would have been healed a long time ago if it wasn't for De Valera even though Fianna Fail has come a long way since then the spirit of De Valera is still inside the very core of the party as a whole.
@@MrVoksa De Valera helped secure independence from britain, and then handed Ireland to the catholic church on a silver platter
There’s 394 subs 😂😂
Why the Italian flag
It's Irish flag
you mistaken the orange m8
Green White n Red?
looks orange to me - which is correct
@@shill700 Gold, but it represents the green of the south with the loyalists orange (gold), whilst the white is peace.
@@EMMYK1916 it's orange - I'm Irish
@@shill700 well we won’t fight about it but I am Irish & when describing the tricolour it’s always done so as “the green, white & gold”.

And a name like Hill doesn’t suggest an Irish surname by the way. Have a lovely evening and we’ll leave it there mr hulk. 😉
This movie helped ruin the good name of dev .
GOOD NAME??? A name that cannot hold up to the facts of history is not a good name
@nova 1 how was he a fascist, he literally fought against o duffys blue fine gael coup attempt. 2 he didn't suck up to the catholic church, the overwhelming majority of people were strict practicing catholics and so the constitution was heavily influenced by that , that is the way the majority of people at that time wanted it .
he had a good name before he became a Free Stater conservative, same as those he led the fight against.
Traitor that’s all dev was
de Valera only became a traitor when he caved in to the Free State with Fianna Fáil.
Say whatever you want of Collins heroics, he still destroyed the Republic and used British guns to slaughter Irishmen, actual loyal Republicans.
Collins was a British puppet
You step into his shoes, He done more for Ireland, than any man, went to England & picked there brains, came home Ireland & waged war on the Brits, & "got murdered by an Irishman, Dev was a traitor
@@michaelbarry2700 Collins wasn't murdered he was killed by Ireland's national army, the IRA. Collins waged War against Ireland, that makes him a clear traitor. He was armed by the British witch makes him a British collaborator.
Alan Rickman what an actor!. He will always be remembered for his great talent, attractive presence, sexyness and voice
Boy Racer the anti treaty ira forced Collins into war.Dev sent Collins to London with a impossible task of getting full independence and no oath of loyalty to the king (when dev didn’t even go so if Collins failed he could use it as a way to make him look weak) he got 26 counties no oath of loyalty and a end to a war neither side could afford any longer. He was murdered by a group of further radicalized IRA wanting a fully independence 32 country which was impossible and still remains impossible to this day nearly a hundred years late he was a Irish hero and without his leadership the war of independence the Irish would never have won.Did dev step up to the stakes in the war of independence no no he did not!
@@michaelbarry2700 what would you know you douch bag. What have you ever done for your country pussy boy
