You do not have to spend another action to perform a flurry of blows with a ki strike. The spell says "You make a strike or flurry of blows" as a part of its use. I see this mistake all the time at my tables and it is the rare moment when a DM gets to tell a player "No, you get to do that for free.".
To answer Skid’s question about amped Produce Flame, he’s comparing the damages incorrectly. It’s not 1d4+6 vs 1d10+1(splash). It’s 1d4+6 vs 1d10+2+1(splash) since the +2 bonus for being in your awakened state applies to both amped and up amped spells. The average damage for amped Produce Flame is higher in that case though still more swingy as Skid mentioned a guaranteed minimum 7 points for a hit unamped PF vs only a guaranteed 4 points for a hit amped PF, buts not as bad as Skid’s example.
That was an INCREDIBLE combat. The rules are brutal but they produce some of the best fights a d20 system has ever had. The climb rule is 5ft + 5ft/20ft of normal though, so they should have been climbing 10ft per action / 30ft per turn which is way more reasonable.
@@Panjax its because Egyptian cotton is considered the best quality cotton. You used to see ads for towels, linens and such saying "pure Egyptian cotton" as a selling point for their products. So Skids remark was being ironic and sarcastic but unfortunately for Troy no one ,including him got it so he didnt have a good point for saying "actually desert cultures wear lots of cotton" which is actually true.
It finally clicked for me After a long day, and a week of listening to 5e live play podcasts Cocktail in hand and the sound cranked up, The Glass Cannon podcast really DOES feel like a late night TV version of live play content I love it
I really like how this encounter's difficulty wasn't necessarily the boss himself, but the terrain/traps! Interactive battlefields like this, where so much is directly affecting the combat makes it so interesting. And just think if they followed their instincts in earlier episodes and actually tampered with it beforehand; they could've swung the encounter way more in their favor.
Yeah. Monks becomes really good at this after a few levels. If Zephyr was Level 2 and had "Dancing Leaf", she would take zero damage from the fall. At Level 6, with Wall Run, she would be able to run up the trees at her full speed, getting back in combat in less than one round!
I love how much of gaming can change table to table. For instance, Im a big softy and probably would have had Kate's high roll on the zip line lower the DC for what happened after. But Troy keeps the suspense and repercussions high. And I love it.
I often think he’s being cruel, but the show wouldn’t be as good without the high stakes. Without the risk of character death, you lose the excitement.
Fun fact about monastic archer stance: because it only forbids STIRKES taken with non-bow weapons, actions with the attack trait that don't specify themselves as strikes don't break the stance! This means that making an unarmed strike WOULD break her stance, but using the Shove action WOULD NOT even though it adds to the M.A.P. Even offensive spells that use spell attack rolls don't break the stance so long as she keeps her bow in hand! ...well, unless the spell specifically says "You make a Strike" somewhere in its text.
Even compared to the crazy high level combats of Giant Slayer, I think this is the most ridiculous fight yet. The party is split three ways, traps going off, a brief one-on-one fight with the boss, a tiny fox make a surprise appearance, multiple PCs go down. Just pure madness.
Even though haven't had scrapple since I was very little, with less discerning taste, and PA Dutch Grandparents. I think the best part of the scrapple experience is when people get that precisely cooked crispy texture perfectly right. - A lot like an extremely well made grilled cheese sandwich but with horrifying mystery meat instead.
Merry Christmas Troy! (and crew) I hate Christmas, but you have been cramming it down our throats for months at a time every year, so obviously it means a lot to you lol. Wishing you and your family an amazing day my mans.
To Skid's point on the Psychic, there are a couple of things. 1) The bonus damage from Unleash Psyche applies to the damage on Amped Produce Flame as well. So the difference is 1d4+6 on the unamped version vs (1d10 + 2) fire + 1 splash damage on the amped version. The average damage is therefore 8.5 for either. 2) It is true that the amped version has a "lower low" than the unamped at level 1, with a minimum of 4 damage vs the unamped's 6, but it makes up for it with a higher maximum (13 vs 10) and more reliability against high AC opponents (splash damage happens even on a failure). 3) Lastly, as the cantrip heightens, the gap between the amped and unamped versions becomes even greater. For example, with Unleash Psyche active, amped produce flame at 4th rank (Level 7 character) does 4d10+8 fire + 4 splash (minimum 16, maximum 52, average 34) vs Unleash Psyche unamped produce flame at 4th rank which does 4d4+12 (minimum 16, maximum 28, average 22).
And on top of that, he would have the option of using the new Ignition cantrip instead of Produce Flame. But yes, at level 1 and 2, amped produce flame at range is not that great - but amped ray of frost is *so good* it kinda makes up for it.
Man, I really wish these episodes were a tiiiiny bit longer. Or, if you guys don't wanna do longer game play seshes, just give us an extra 20 mins of pre-game banter, thats my favorite part anyways. ❤😂 Merry Christmas GCP, thank you for giving me something to smile about every week. I love how they are discussing Kate rolling her save for the confusion after she already rolled for attack, and they tell her to "keep the attack roll" because it was low, and then Troy grins and says "that's lame" :D at around 25:34 Troy really wants them to suffer, eh? :D
Nah, they are really munchkening / ignoring rules that even troy is being worn down. This would have been a perfect battle for a PC death and troy is really letting them get away with so much.
Mom's cheese-log and crackers (don't underestimate it), My sister's awesome Apple and Pumpkin pies AND Nano's Phenomenal pot-roast. Poor Joe: the look to the heavens after Matt healed for 1 HP says everything. MERRY XMAS! May Santa bring you better dice. After watching the season thus far, I have to say I love watching the crew play the game but I am likely not EVER going to play Pathfinder. I find the Savage Worlds system much more cinematic and quick to play with far less rules for everything like how good of a shit you take and whether a roll of 10 means you successfully wipe your ass to stave off a dingleberry infection. Pathfinder seems excessively unforgiving, limiting, and in the hands or Troy, downright BRUTAL.
It's all about taste I think. Pathfinder is great if what you want is crunchy crunch and dead PCs. There's tons of great RPG systems that can deliver the same storytelling with a lot less rules, if that's the vibe of the player group. I really like FATE for a full on drama kid experience.
They're level 1, they're newbies to the adventuring life. Things get less brutal and PCs get more competent fast - but as levels go up, the gap between untrained and trained (or better) widens, so a lucky roll on an untrained skill is less likely to just randomly work.

[my first complaint would probably be that the Bastard Sword doesn't have Damage Versatility while all other straight swords have it and while I can see that they might've want to penalize it balance-wise, it is just so illogical it irks me].
These NY people are strange. What's a charcuterie? Or any of the foods they mention. It's like they're pretentious, except they're not pretending, they just are that way. And they know random athlete names, even though they're playing a TTG? Like pick a lane people 😂
That was one of the best combats I have ever experienced from the GCP, and it really speaks to how amazing the crew and the system of PF2E is at building and maintaining tension in fights like these. It was awesomely cinematic, and playing everything to the rules added to the game instead of detracting from it. Awesome, awesome episode!
Skid watching football while everyone argues about rules is the true TTRPG experience
How long until the NFL DMCA’s this VOD?
Was that the Texas Vs Alabama football game?
Wait is he actually watching football while recording?
If he is doing that that is really not a good thing for the game :(
It would seem his only keeping an eye on it, as he is still very engaged with the game and the rules
