0:38 - Paizo never needed the open gaming license to make Pathfinder. They're protected under the first amendment, copyright, and legal present which allows the reuse of game mechanics though not explicitly it's written rules which Pathfinder, to my knowledge, does not use. Pathfinder is wholly original in the legal sense. However, it is arguably creatively derivative of Dungeons and Dragons, but I think the two settings are very distinct in many ways which makes them both unique and appealing in their own ways even if they're audience would overlap a lot. If I were writing this very good video, I'd instead say that it was made by former writers of an official D&D magazine as a traditional reiteration of the game in the face of the fourth edition.
Which was never settled in any court. Already TSR threathened to sue everyone (even people who did not even use D&D, but completly other RPGs) and no one went to court, which is in itself amazing. Having rights and getting right are two different things.
@@Barquevious_Jackson So what? Most of the products had or have nothing to do with the OGL but with D20. Which was a completely different story. The beginning of the year was quite a mess and chaos, but luckily it has been now calmed down. For RPG developers and world builders, knowing D&D and Pathfinder also gives a good basis to get to know the already used terminology as examples of terms to avoid if you are planning your own TTRPG or fantasy world, for example The Dungeon Coach replaced the word "magic" with the word "mana" to avoid the slightest similarity to already used terms and words and thus possible or potential legal issues which can result from the careless use of terms and words in similar context. Lately, I've started to get to know and learn about the terminology used by OSR (Old School Essentials), Basic Fantasy, World Without Numbers and Mörk Borg.

Do you know how Ability boosts are going to be conveyed in the remaster, I've been trying to find the answer but it doesn't seem like something people are talking about (which is fair). Like is just going to be cap on how high your modifier will be until a certain level or are players going to be given like a .5 increase to it?
From Player Core page 19: An attribute boost normally increases an attribute modifier’s value by 1. However, if the attribute modifier to which you’re applying an attribute boost is already +4 or higher, instead mark “partial boost” on the character sheet for that attribute. If the attribute already has a partial boost invested in it, increase the modifier by 1 and uncheck the box. At 1st level, a character can never have any attribute modifier that’s higher than +4.

As i remember i have Mwagi Expanse, Book of The Dead, Core Player Guide and Bestiary. Was wondering to get corebook where is Thraumaturge but i guess i will hold on it for now
I've ALWAYS hated the terminology "Spell Level", its just so unintuitive and causes needless confusion. Spell Rank is so good I strongly believe DnD 6e (or the 2024 bandaid thing they're doing) should use it :P
With the consolidation of core rulebooks, a cleaner break from the D&D lineage, and more precise rules, this remaster is set to take Pathfinder to new heights. It's always a bit intimidating when changes like these happen, but it seems like Paizo is streamlining the experience for the better. Here's to a more vibrant, engaging, and epic Pathfinder world! 🎲💯
I haven't tried it yet. I didn't like that spells were feats in 4th or much of anything else really. Like multiple PHB's. I find Pathfinder 1e more familiar.
The new dying rule seems rather harsh. I guess if you have the wounded condition and you're up you better spend all your actions running away. May be more realistic, but maybe too realistic for heroic fantasy?
Yeah, with these new rules, you're better off staying dying if you aren't 100% sure you won't be hit if you get up. If you do go down for a second time, it's almost guaranteed that you will die. A lot of people will be ignoring these new rules to dying, so it's up to GMs to decide which rules they want to use.
Run 30 feet away and drink a healing potion. Then used ranged attacks for the rest of the combat until you have 10 minutes for a treat wounds. The thing about heroic fantasy is that often someone does die which shows that the situation is serious and motivates the hero to avenge the fallen. It sucks if it is your character, but character death is absolutely part of a great story.
I also personally think it's a less intuitive system than just adding wounded to your initial dying value. I think the idea of the system that everyone ran with gets across the point Paizo was making with the dying system fine enough to be honest.
I wasn't impressed with 2e in the first place, and I've heard Witch is sort of trampling on Alchemist's turf... when Alchemist was shit already. And the only real good part about 2e next to 1e is already an optional rule for 1e in the Unchained Action Economy, though I think the removal of Alignment is just generally a good change simply out of "alignment was always terrible" also renaming spell levels to spell rank is good idea, see a certain early Order of the Stick page for why. Either way, I'm going to stick to 1e where I can.
The only thing they got right was 5e. Many will disagree with me, that's fine. 5e wasn't perfect but it was better than their last attempts. 3.0, 3.5, 4.0.....Now they are revising 5e with One DND. I see Paizo doing the same thing, but their hand was sort of forced instead. Long live AD&D2e 🤗
@@AkecheThe changes should all be available for free on the archive of nethys I would hope... I think the new books are aimed at new players. People who already have the older ones should get along fine with no additional purchase. I hope.
I take a lot of issues with this video considering I'm an old guard 3.Xe player. Lets start with: 3.5 is almost identical to 3.5, which is the same base ogl system (Open D20) as Pathfinder, but that are not 'Nearly identical'. They are all D20 games, just like 4e, 5e, and Even PF2 are D20 games. The OGL isn't really a peace treaty, its more like source code, made by the people who'd go on to make Pathfinder. It was created to make creating splat books and third party material easier and to make tabletop more accessible to everyone. 2e (And 5e) are kind of trash because of the changes. That's a can of worms. To sum it up: missing content, less rules, less availability to act. Alignment was probably the best thing to happen to D&D. The best thing to happen to tabletop, and really its a creation from even earlier editions from when Rolemasters and TSR had hold of it. There is one problem with Alignment: People refuse to learn how it works. A characters actions, dictate their alignment. not the other way around. Which is why we have this new system, its a dumbing down. Its worse. You shouldn't have to release rules and books later for people to grasp all the core ideas. Its part of why the OLG exists, and its a money grab. To be honest, the changes in terminology hurt the most. Language matters. I'll leave that there, as it should be obvious.
I like some of the terminology changes, they make more sense now. "Off-Guard" its insane how much more sense this makes.

I've ALWAYS hated the terminology "Spell Level", its just so unintuitive and causes needless confusion. Spell Rank is so good I strongly believe DnD 6e (or the 2024 bandaid thing they're doing) should use it :P
They weren't rumors. WotC was going to screw over the industry until folks started cancelling their D&D Beyond subscriptions.
Actually, it was one of WotC major shareholders that forced WotC to back down.
They're still looking for ways to screw the industry I'm sure! Let's just hope their ambitions for a "walled garden" never go anywhere.
I am a new player not gona buy any book (me poor 😔) i just started learning rules for 2e should i leave that and start learning remastered?
They're basically the same. Most of the differences are in the terminology.
Nooo, Monk where are you.
Puffin forest's voice
It was a document leak not a rumour though
There were rumors before the doc leak.
The dying rules changes didn't evens survive the first few days.
Well, they already did errata on the dying rules.
If you want to sum it up in as few words as possible, Remaster is a "Errata Plus".
But if you're a new player, you won't have any idea what "errata" even means.
@@eamk887 If you don't know the concept of errata or patchnotes, then no video can help you.
Personally I still Play Pathfinder 1e
i dont get why they didnt do a 3e.. its literally a new edition tbh
Or stay with pf first edifiton like me
The OGL is the IP holder equivalent of the dealer giving away the first hit for free
I playtested PF2e; it felt too much like D&D 4.0 which i hated. I'll stick with Classic PF
Technically this rule was in the CRB but it was differently written in multiple chapters. Noone seems to have noticed until now
Yeah, with these new rules, you're better off staying dying if you aren't 100% sure you won't be hit if you get up.
This is what Hero Points are for.
Wait, there are people with money? Since when!?
I love the corporate hellscape we live in!
YMBA? That you?
I thought the point was to make money during the holidays but okay
I wasn't impressed with 2e in the first place, and I've heard Witch is sort of trampling on Alchemist's turf... when Alchemist was shit already. And the only real good part about 2e next to 1e is already an optional rule for 1e in the Unchained Action Economy, though I think the removal of Alignment is just generally a good change simply out of "alignment was always terrible" also renaming spell levels to spell rank is good idea, see a certain early Order of the Stick page for why. Either way, I'm going to stick to 1e where I can.
"ranger
. "
as always.... ranger is the odd class no system knows how to deal with
👏👏👏
But it's still "Roll 11"? With new names. Nah.
about time to get out of the shadow of WOTC and become the best game out there.
👍
Hasbro greed, boo.
Aka its because Wizards of the coast/Hasbro SUCKS.
Looks like they made it even more fiddly. I will stick with Starfinder 1e and the OSR.

Now it's "Vitality comment" 🙃
Its just silly renaming for copyright reasons, innit?
That'll be $120, please!
@@AkecheThe changes should all be available for free on the archive of nethys I would hope...
I think the new books are aimed at new players. People who already have the older ones should get along fine with no additional purchase. I hope.
Pathfinder 2.5 edition HEHE!
pathfinder 2.1
pathfinder 2.1
Champion*
Screeching Nerd! 😂

So they didn’t simplify the game? Too bad. Stuff like stealth skill is so complicated i gave up on the game.
