All good info, the one thing I will say is personally I think the Gen 1 raptors are easier to build in stages. The factory stuff on raptors obviously isnt the best but its also not "highway rated" components either. Take a raptor with a front kit and no rear suspension work and the same situation with a tundra and hands down raptor will work better. BUT the 6.2 in the raptor is a dog. Yes, superchargers are available but thats about it. Overall both have their strengths and weaknesses. End of the day the guy who does the most shock tuning is going to have the better working truck.

Though a Raptor and Tundra are really not comparable when both are completely stock. But when building them out I say Tundra all the way due to their reliability, upkeep, cost, and the look of them when built out. Plus I'm a Toyota guy, lol 🇯🇵 | 🇺🇲

Very true!! A stock raptor is underrated. And yes, hard to beat the reliability of Toyota 🤘🏼

Now I'm curious about these companies. I just ordered a Blitz MT and it says 15”+ for the Raptor

Question everything!! Haha Jk. Blitzkrieg is pretty legit. Mine was spot on to what they claimed. But always be cautious.

I have a 14 Tundra that I bought new. It was mid travel at 3000 miles, then SC at 15000 miles then Camburg long travel with Camburg spring under at 18000 miles now has an LSK kit. My only complaint is the computer nanny's. ABS gets in the way a lot, and the manual shift option for the trans you're really asking the truck nicely for the gear you want. It will still over ride your input if it wants. The truck still has the TRD tune put in by the dealer. Maybe the aftermarket can dull down the nannys now but not sure.
Failures (none of them complete Failures) truck has never left me stranded:
    SC snout, fully warrantied
    Trans, 35,000 miles partially warrantied
    Rack and motor mounts 70,000.

Such a rad platform! Have you tried completely disabling the traction control? Pull the fuse? I had to do that in my 2009. But my 2017, I just did the usual, hold down the button and make sure traction control and everything is off and I had no issues and would hold gear when manually shifted.

    • @ccwalker1982

@dezerttrucks it's not so much the traction control as the abs if I get myself into a situation where I have to brake hard, especially in the dunes. I have pulled just wish I didn't have to.
The trans will hold gears but seems like it won't down shift when comanded all the time. Again pretty much only a problem in the dunes.

@@ccwalker1982 yeah that’s a bummer. In my experience, disabling the traction control also disables the abs. If it’s truly disabled. Because pushing the button, and holding down, doesn’t seem to really turn it off. I’ll look and see which fuse, we pulled.

I am leaning towards a Gen 2 raptor for the fact that I don't want to go through the heavy modification of a Tundra/Chevy (done that), even though its really cool. Don't want to go Fiberglass/bedcage route etc. Thinking Stock Gen 2 raptor with some aftermarket coilovers/bypass shocks and UCA will allow me to DD but also still have fun on the raptor runs.

If you find one, and upgrade the shocks and do an upper control arm, wheels and tires, you’ll have a great trail rig. Not gonna smash whoops, but very capable, reliable, fun, and easy to build!!

I’m newer to the scene and my biggest concern with buying a built tundra would actually being able to find one. Im trying to decide between a 4wd tundra or newer Silverado. The seems to be one of the most rare of the manufacturers. I might be wrong and others would know more.

2019+ Silverado is also a great choice. In fact, it could’ve been in this comparison. And yes, finding a built truck, already done, that hasn’t been beat, is tough. Gotta be patient. Or , just build one.

    • @calesquires7572

Do the 2019+ Silverados get to around that 15in mark in the front with 4wd?

@@calesquires7572 yup! Very close. Check out the Dirt King website. They have pretty much everything you need for that build! Including bumpers, etc…

All the kits I’ve seen “say” they are in the 13 range. But I guess another question I have is will you notice a two inch difference?

    • @dezerttrucks
      @dezerttrucks  3 місяці тому

@@calesquires7572 that’s a great question, because properly tuned 13” travel will outperform 15” travel. The travel numbers matter, but shock tuning is more important.
