The 2019 Porsche Macan was given a face lift, which includes some new headlights, colors, wheel design, and a less powerful 2.0 litre engine to meet emission standards. Are you seriously complaining about be keyless entry having a twist key instead of a push button when it performs the same function?
It's also built that way because when the vehicle battery dies and you have to use the slide-out emergency key to enter the vehicle to jump start it, or if the battery dies in the key fob, you'll just pull that twist ignition key out and put your dead key fob into that space and be able to start the car. Saving you from having to call roadside assistance, which sometimes could take hours depending on where you are.
Duh
Some professional reviewers have suggested that the base model handles better than the S because the engine, which is ahead of the front axle, is considerably lighter. Also, reviewers recognize that driving in the U.S. (where I live) doesn't offer much opportunity for high speed acceleration. The S sells for a considerable premium over the base (never mind the engine options above the S), and I don't believe you've made the case to reach that much deeper into my pocket.
Add a tuner to the 2.0 and you have a more trackable Macan for 8k less than the S.

What is the difference in engine output between turbu and gts.
it's no coincidence that so many reviews now are rating the four as the best version. If the reviewer has reached the point of complaining that bottles stand to tall in the cup holder when there is a dedicated bottle holder in the door, I'm not sure he's a reliable reviewer.

Good review - We are just about to take delivery of a 2.0L Macan fully loaded (ex-demo) however it’s only used on the school run and I am lucky enough yo have an F90 M5 for everyday gut-wrenching acceleration! I suspect if you weren’t aware there was a V6 350bhp engine available you would be happy regardless and let’s face it, come 2022 when all cars in Europe must abide by the speed limit it’s all pretty irrelevant anyway!

How is your m5 keeping has it had any issues as I was also looking at the m5 f90 model around 2019 plate but was worried about the reliability.
Kind of funny, 4 piston calipers braked and couldn't stop.... So what happen to those SUV with 1 piston? And many are worrying about the size of the engine. 6.1 sec is not slow for a SUV. Many professional reviewers said they couldn't tell the different between base vs S for normal driving.
In traffic all cars are the same. Unless you need want to change lane fast, and need to accelerate. Once this is up to speed, it feels the same, as the V6. But as I said, it's a heavy car, and it needs all the stopping power it can get.
This review is a real joke
The 2020 Base Macan in Canada is $57800.
Those RS wheels in the video aren't even an option, but adding the largest wheels available- the 20" Macan Turbo wheels as your ONLY option already adds $4790 bringing the price up to $63,880.
You haven't added a single other option and you now equal the base price of the MB GLC 43 AMG and that has a Twin turbo V-6 with 385 HP.
I'm left handed. In a world where everything is catered to right handed people, I love the fact that Porsche has that feature...even though it is for a completely irrelevant reason.
Marek, don't be so negative on the 2.0L engine. Yes it is a VW or Audi Q engine but so what. If you want a Porsche designed engine than buy the 3.0L. I've driven both Base and the S models and really there wasn't that much difference in performance...yes if you want Porsche Sound get the S. But you must realize the Base Macan is Porsche's biggest seller which means Porsche is expanding its customer base...business is business! Thanks!
Don't forget this is a heavy car. Standing start may feel similar, but Macan S has the power and especially torque to accelerate, when you're already on the go.

I'd say don't take Porsche without Sport Chrono, unless you plan on driving it in Sport mode all the time.
Thanks for the honest review. The next generation electric Macon is going to be a wash in my opinion and not in the true spirit of the European sport car tradition.

The guy is obviously comparing this to the Macan S and Macan turbo. While the two higher trim levels offer more performance, He fails to mention as to why people buy the regular Macan is the price point. Not everyone Needs to go a second faster. Not everyone needs a different exhaust sound. This base Macan checks all the boxes that most folks ail ever need. He’s obviously nit picking at every minor detail that he doesn’t seem fit.
Actually I said this is sort of a replacement for the diesel Macan, which is for the more laid back owner, who doesn't need top performance. I also said it's just as good in traffic as any other Porsche, and that it sensible enough most of the time. My only 2 problems are lack of responsiveness if you don't use the sport response mode, and (IMO) insufficiently powerful brakes. This is a heavy, and relatively fast car, so it could use better brakes. If that is nitpicking, then perhaps you should go watch one of those dealer videos, that tell you only what's good on the new (insert whatever they have on stock).
@@MarekDrives I have a 2017 base and always drive in sport mode. I recently had the dealer install sport plus. A very nice upgrade for when I want even better performance. You know like when every other pesky 4 cylinder 5 passenger SUV comes around thinking they can keep up. The poor braking performance was upgraded by getting rid of the stock Porsche organic brake pads. Still not as good as 6 piston calipers but very noticeably improved. The exhaust note is pretty weak but the vehicle is very quiet and a pleasure to drive on the highway. All in all I love my base.

I'm the other way around. I like the macan over the velar and audi. Only reason I would choose velar over the porsche is for the awesome entertainment system
2L is Plenty for everyday driving. Traffic, most everywhere Rarely allows you to really Open up and feel/see the raw power.
Plus the huge difference in gas Mileage & the multi 3L engine issues....
So really a waste of Money, Unless you have more money then sense....
so true..had to choose between a more $$ '18 GTS with 38K miles and a 2020 base with 21" Spyder wheels with only 10K miles and CPO till 11/26...went with the base and worry free for the next 6 yrs lol

This car is great. It is the car you buy for your trophy wife, so she can be happy she drives a Porsche. It's slow enough so she doesn't get into trouble, the taxes and insurance are also cheaper, so you can pay for her Zumba classes.

The problem is all these 2.0 ltr turbo fours are too small. Why don't they bump it up to 2.5 ltr for more horsepower and torque? This would keep the keen handling of the lighter engine. However, even with that the price of a properly outfitted Macan is a very poor value. Porsche should just stay out of the 4 cylinder arena and leave that to the less haloed name plates. With a proper tire upgrade I bet the Mazda CX-5 Signature with its 2.5 ltr turbo four could outperform this 2.0 ltr Macan.
Taxes. At least in Europe in many countries engines over 2L displacement are additionally taxed. So car manufacturers either offer a significantly larger engine to make it "worth it" or try to keep it up to 2L.
Porsche sells base 2-liter Macans at a rate/ratio of around 8-1 or 10-1 when compared to sales of Macan S and Macan Turbo combined. Base Macan is Porsche's bread and butter; it allows them to do lots with vehicles having larger engines, which they may not be able to do otherwise. Evidently tens of thousands of buyers are very happy that Porsche doesn't "just stay out of the 4 cylinder arena"!

It's all about the handling. Putting more power on most other compact SUV s is like putting lipstick on a pig. Used to be that 911s put out the same horsepower as today's base Macan.

I have to wonder, if Audi, VW, Porsche, Lamburghi, ECT are all going electric, why buy one over the other? With no distinguishing engine, transmission, sound, driven wheels, ect., why buy a Porsche EV SUV vs a cheaper Audi EV SUV that have the same chassis? I mean handling is going to be very similar given the weight and batteries in the floor for center of gravity.
Good question. Weight should eventually decrease with the development of more dense and/or smaller batteries. I would assume there is going to be even more electronic tuning to make the steering and suspension feel more like Porsche or more like Audi. On the one hand I can imagine VW Group guarding their secret recipes like KFC, and on the other I can imagine more opportunities for aftermarket tuning. All you need is a laptop.
My choice over all those premium electric cars will depend on which one gives me the longest electric extension cord. If I’m going to drive 200 miles or so at a time, I will need quite a long cord.
This is a question that Im wondering currently. Should I get Q6 e-tron or Macan EV. Will be interesting to see the specs. I have a suspicion that Q6 will be too heavy/slow/boring.
I think it's still better to have a not very exiting but real engine sound, than a fake one that some manufacturers use. Great music on this video, btw.!
We should not talk about 0 to 60 time of any ICE vehicle, rather talk about the ride quality, handling, driving dynamics etc. I am a Porsche fan but have been driving an electric car (a little over 50k new car price) that has 500hp with 3.8 sec 0 to 60. Since then, I no longer even look at those numbers in ICE cars anymore.

Lardy suv like this needs a lot more power to be enjoyable and more importantly proper big brakes . The latter is inexcusable.

I have the fake key in our cayenne. Its just as easy and more appealing to use than the push button in our other car. It’s novel and feels more performance oriented.

The fuse panel is still on the left so placement on the left is a slightly shorter wiring run. Less wire, less weight. Go to the Porsche museum for yourself if you think it's still funny.

Regarding the fake key: yeah, I hate that, but in the base Macan you get a real key-ignition: you put the key fob in that location and turn it, as normal; your model has the keyless entry *option*, which you have to pay for -- and there is a UA-cam video for how you can take out that "fake key" so that you can insert your key fob normally, if you so desire.
As for the price: 60k Euros is too much for this; here in America, our base price is only USD $50k, which translates to 44.5k Euros -- much cheaper! I would pay 44.5k Euros for this new base Macan, but not 60k Euros for it! Even with taxes here, it only comes to 47k Euros. I would love to know why there is such a big difference between the same vehicle sold in Europe vs. America.
Two things that I hadn't noticed in the new Macan are the fake intake "vents" below the headlights and the weaker brakes -- disappointing. But I have driven both the Macan S and base Macan for model year 2018 (the previous "generation"), and I was unimpressed by the Macan S, which did not feel all that powerful and which has much worse gas mileage; I thought that the base Macan is a better buy for the money (sold here in base form for $10k less than the S).
Yes, I know you can take out the faux key and use the fob instead.
As for the price difference, there's a hefty VAT on everything in Europe. Depending on the country its between 17 and 27 (!!!!) percent. So if we take US price 47k+19% VAT for Germany (I use German prices in my English reviews) we get about 56k, which is much closer to what you'd have to pay. The rest may result in differences in base specification across markets, probably some volume discounts, as US is one of the largest Porsche markets, etc.
I'd just prefer a push button like a normal car has these days. I get the heritage, but let's move on Porsche. Key fobs remain in the pocket now and push a button.
@@jeffs6090 I prefer inserting a key/fob into an "ignition" switch and turning... The new keyless-entry and keyless-start systems have been shown to be very vulnerable to hacking. And putting the key in an ignition switch gives you a place to have the key while you are in the car only, so you don't forget to shut the engine and lock the car when you leave. It seems pretty lazy to me to want this keyless entry and keyless start stuff in cars, and much more inherently dangerous. (Also, I can't imagine that Porsche will have anything but keyless entry/ignition with their forthcoming EVs; they're already there in their E-Hybrids. But I suspect there will be much more potential for hacking BEVs with keyless everything because they are silent -- you won't hear an engine coming on as the hackers drive away with your car.)

The Porsche has a tweaked engine, Seven speed pdk box, Porsche steering, suspension and brakes and (despite how nice the Audi is) is better built. Best value suv on the market.

Aston Martin done that with the Cygnet and that didn't work out too well.
Cygnet was an overpriced Toyota. I think it was a bad choice for badge engineering. The car itself was an interesting concept.

Porsche 356, 550 Spyder, the 1957 718, 904, 912, 914, 924, 944, 968 and even the 919 hybrid Le Mans racer had 4 cylinder engines. Engines sizes ranging from 1.1 litres to 2.5 litres. Many were VW / Audi sourced too. The very first Porsche - the type 64 had a 1 litre flat 4 engine, so it’s safe to say small 4 cylinder engines are in Porsche DNA. The latest 718 Cayman and Boxster use 2 litre flat fours too....guess that’s why Porsche think it’s fine to stick a Porsche badge on a 2.0 litre car.

Soon to be irrelevant. Tesla Model Y launching in the coming week with more power and less shitty sound. Audi just showed us a Q4-etron and even Porsche says they are electrifying it. It's almost as if they hope some suckers buy now to give them some money while they take their time developing the next generation one.

I personally would never buy a 2.0 liter Macan with 245 hp! This is a heavy car and needs some grunt to accelerate and pass plus if you drive with heavy right foot like me I wouldn't be happy. My guess is a grocery hauler and schlepping the kids to soccer games than I guess it's fine or you want to that Porsche badge on the hood. Anyone who like performance ain't buying this because there are other cheaper suv's with more power that you can get into for less.
And every cheaper SUV with more power drive like shit in comparison.
