This base engine 2.000cc Macan is quite popular here in South East Asia. You still got the Porsche badge without paying massive tax for 3.000cc (Macan S)

Same here in Eastern Europe. The tax for the 2000 cc engine is 15 times smaller than the 3000 cc engine.

But the car is still very punchy for most people. If you want a v6 you can go for any other macan this is just more efficient and more comfortable
Reason why they didnt use their own engine is because this shares the platform and engine with almost every other vehicle in VW groupation. 2.0 tfsi was already very well optimized for this platform so they didnt want to waste any more money on something that already works good and does the job. Theres an old saying which goes: dont fix it if it aint broken. Sharing the same platform and engines cuts the expenses by alot. 2.0 tfsi is fast enough for a daily car and as an entry model I honestly dont see why not. 6 seconds to 100 is pretty good if you ask me. Theres always higher models with 6 cylinders if you want to upgrade to something faster. If this were any other car it would be normal but since its a porsche it must be insanely fast by mandatory, right!?!?

In Indonesia the base Macan actually sells a lot more. Reasons being is that 3.0L engine taxes are way higher than 2.0L. Also the fact that there's not so much roads that we can truly enjoy the 3.0L. Jammed traffics are everywhere, even in some of the highways. But the 3.0 in my opinion will remain the sweet spot of this car. Cause who would really intend to daily drive this car? not much.
Great review, but I think one should not be so negative about the engine from the Golf GTi because it is actually quite a gem of an engine in its own right. What we should be negative about is how much Porsche want to charge for this Macan with a Golf GTi engine - now that is a crime! EUR 44,000 in options on a car like this is crazy! But as you said, there will still be many buyers for this because of the excellent quality and the badge. To put things into perspective, this Macan would be left behind the 330i Sport you just tested ........... enough said. LOL!

This engine is from a new Audi A4 generation. Can be easily tuned up to 330 hp. But you absolutely right saying that Porsche can’t be on 4 cylinders:)

44k Euros in options?! Isn't that about the base price of this car, before options? So it's double the base price? It makes no sense to do that to a 4-cylinder car... would be much more sensible to start with a Macan S, and then option it out to be even less than this overly-optioned 4-cylinder... I'm really scratching my head on this one...

Pushing the car every day in the city is not always wanted. This one is more fuel-efficient and gives you a superb drive. The world is not black and white. More options are better.

They want to ban me from driving my 10 year old fuel efficient 2l diesel yet they themselves are so privileged to take 4+ holidays a year to exotic places on the other side of the world just so they can inform the rest how climate change has effected their beloved beach...
To tell you the truth I don't mind the I4, the suv's of porsche never had flats in them, V's and I's mostly if I'm not mistaken.

I mean I really dislike Porsche SUVs as Porsche is my favorite company and I'm into sports cars.. But I can't deny the fact that this and Cayenne are the fact that we are still getting 911's, 718's, GT3 RS, GT2 RS etc.
Porsche is selling SUVs the most, mostly asian countrys which people really don't care about the engine but for the emblem on the hood (so you're right Max).
It has to be said that without the SUV's and Panamera, there wouldn't be any more 911.
Not just in Asian countries. They're super common in the UK as well, and relatively cheap if you look around.

Max, the reason for this engine is not soccer moms. It's the stupid EU regulations. Every car brand has to have average CO2 emissions of under 98 g/km by 2021. This is idiotic because obviously sporty brands like Lambo, Bentley, Porsche can't do that without going hybrid or using small engines. Expect that the 2021 Macan will come a 1.5 turbo 3 cylinder with 150 HP.
Just looked it up on the internet to clarify that it's the case. This kind of regulations makes me mad af. I can obviously see the point in slowly phasing out gas cars, but god damn it makes me mad as a car enthusiast.
@@Leth_cs2 It makes me mad too. You know why? Because brands like Porsche are very small volume and this won't make any difference to the environment, especially in terms of emissions. By all means, make really popular high volume cars like VW Golf, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, etc, make them hybrid, 3 cylinder engined, electric, whatever. But why mess with small brands like Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, etc, that only sell a few thousand units a month at most. It really makes no difference to the environment, and those brands that make low volume sports cars should be left alone.

A car like this makes sense to a person who wants to drive porsche but is afraid of speeds. and back seat in this is not to be driven around, sorry. this is a drivers crossover, and should be powered accordingly. if you want smaller engine, drive vw.

Protector of the Republic how is it possible to reach 98 grams when all their 6 and 8 cylinders release between 200 and 400 grams? Even with a negative model consuming CO2 it’s impossible...
This thing doesn't deserve a Porsche badge. It's a good car, but not a real Porsche. They're just using this car to get the money from soccer moms, I seriously feel sorry for that. Porsche has given up their dignity.

They gotta make big money somehow tho. Think of it this way, they gain massive profits because of these regular cars that people buy because of the Porsche badge. Then with those massive incomes they get to produce all the super/hypercar stuff that we love. If they focused on high performance they woudnt last really long, they did that once and almost went out of business.
